I started very young and not going to school, (a long story) meant most of my early start working for my dad. I came to him as a obligation he did not bargain for. Mom past, I was eight, and just way too big and looked much older, half native so dad put me in his shop cleaning and greasing, then on to doing actual work. At eleven, one of his workers gave me his old 36 chevy ton and a half truck that was a real basket case and needed to go away on his property so me being young and just plain dumb accepted his offer of working on a few things for him and wa la boom, I had a truck that should of went to a crusher. Longer story shortened for your comfort, I found a engine of the same year and put it together with some help from dad. He only showed you something once and after that your on your own. I even painted it with latex house paint.... I was as green as a avocado and of course that paint peeled on the first rainstorm. I did better on my second try, enough that dad let me park it in the yard plus it kept me home. I got my emancipation when I just past fifteen by just a few months and so needed a home like yourself. I got a house from a neighbor woman who's husband just got crippled and so with money and doing their farm work, owned a nice two bedroom house.... short lived success as I got drafted at seventeen and just a little bit as judges just really did not care for my terrible attitude. I by then was a full two hundred and thirty pounds of rowdy bratt and so the army took me to a new level of smarter. I went to Nam where several bullet holes sent me home in 69. I got home and went to work back in the woods and did some work on old trucks at home. This is another long story but let's just say shorter is what you want. I have about forty years as a professional mechanic... a lot of OJT and then to teck schools where I rounded out a profession that allowed me to work for myself and get really good. I say that with pride as it did take me into business and also learn some real courtesy for people and respect for a lot of different things. I was well known by my first name in other shops or businesses. Where I failed myself big time was not insuring myself and so seventeen years ago, I got finally hurt so bad that I have never walked again and it just was too hard to work setting in a chair and do the kind of work on big equipment yet. I found your channel from google suggesting it plus my love of internationals. I really hope that you learn some patience and to respect your dad. Your going to not have him around someday when you least expect it... I can see that you two love each other a great deal so please please try to give your dad some really good respect and since you are a smart young man.... hang onto some of his pearls of ideas

You're living the dream in my eyes! I'm 27 and no where near this stage in life, but seeing you working so hard to achieve it has reawoken my drive to go for it myself. That truck and the caddy look SO good parked in there!
This is great! It is definitely needed in Tucson. I built houses out there and worked on cars so I know the importance of some kind of cover for shade. God Bless you and your Dad, I like him we share a lot in experience, him more than I but I can relate.

I feel you man. I work on cars and welding projects in South Texas. Today it was 102 degrees and it is only May 28. It can be brutal and when it rains I do not even bother trying. I just started on a 45 foot X 25 lean to so I can have a place to work. Been here for 31 years and have had enough of the direct sun. Today I got sunburned in a couple hours working on the 4 wheeler. Then had to rush to put all my stuff up cuz a storm was supposed to hit.

On your roofing, it looked like you may sheeted it backwards. Always lay the short side first
Just a great build , especially when you are on a budget. I hope that you might consider putting sides on at some point, so it will lessen the wind blowing dirt and earth onto your pristine concrete slab? . Have to say the picture of all four of your projects under your roof for the first time, was very cool. You must be very pleased. Really enjoying all of your content, and I am based in London UK. Keep up the good work. .

Shouldn't really bridge concrete slab pours with baseplates (@8:15) , it will tie the corners of the concrete and not allow for any further contraction. you may find that the concrete will crack across the corners of the pours where the holding down bolts have been drilled. As a general rule we always leave 150mm from slab edge to holding down bolt. Having said all that, your frame is very lightly loaded so any cracking of the concrete shouldn't present any major issues. Keep up the good content though.

We call them thunder bolts. You can drill through the plate and drive them on in and they will always line up. Then an impact with a socket makes quick work of it. You did a good job though.

Since you asked what you are doing right, MORE IHC PICKUPS. The one thing that would consider wrong is the video length. An average of an hour each is too time consuming. As an avid RUclips hotrod viewer, 20 minutes to a half hour is the sweet spot.
I don't agree. A houre is perfect.
Working in the dirt and under a brutal sun is not fun. So, you're doing the right thing by building something that mitigates both issues. Once it is up then you can figure out how to expand and modify the structure as how your needs dictate. Good luck and keep going!!

Great build video - will you be adding sides to the garage at some point? the videos and the builds are always great, i love the details and how you overcome challenges. one item to change, maybe, might the font and font color of the notes you lay over the video - there might be a best practice for that for RUclips (i did a quick search and there are guides out there).

I forget how young you are till you mention your age. You seem more mature. Anyway, yes, smart thing building yourself a shop. However shouldn’t you have built it taller? You’re gonna need a lift! I know those things are like 10k but look how fast Kevin at junkyard digs grew his business and yes only about a year or so older than you! Then there’s Dylan mccool try he mopar guy. He’s really well equipped, but I get the impression he came from a well off family. You’re doing great, keep it up. You’ll get there real soon!
Hi what gauge roofing sheets are those ? I'm planning on building one just like yours but 16ft high to fit my semi truck, and putting solar panels on top of the roof.nuce build.
So what size did the carport end up being?
The only problem I see is you are too close to the house.So when you are makin noise if somebody is inside they will know it.Other than that good for you.I love the Caddy by the way.

You asked for suggestions of how to make your channel better: AUDIO MIXXING. I had the volume set so I could hear your narration, then your generator came on and blasted me out of the room. I don't want or need to hear tools clanking and machines running. You would do well to completely mute all that and overdub some quality narration. Also, music should never be louder than your narration.
I'm a long-haul trucker who is on RUclips constantly. I have 11 hours a day to LISTEN to podcasts, music, and stand-up comedy while I'm driving. Channels like yours that I have to WATCH are reserved for a short while before and after sleeping and dock time. I subscribe to over 100 channels you're competing against. You've got about 5 minutes to grab my attention. You waste my time, and I'm clicking to the next video. Cram as much content into as little time as possible. Time-lapse photography is a beautiful thing. Don't ever spend 20 minutes making me watch you load a car onto a trailer. 30 minutes or less is the perfect video length. Cole the Cornstar, and the Old Man's Garage are excellent blueprints for how to create quality videos and a successful channel.
