Outstanding footage. My neck and back hurt just watching this. Takes me back to being a driver and the agony of the week after the demo. Nice work and thank you drivers for sacrificing vehicles,time and doctor bills to show us how a demo should be!

Thanks for asking! Mostly more room for the car to bend around the wheels but still allow them to turn. Some also use it to lower the end of the car to change where the coming hit hits their car in a more helpful function.

It is rare, other than minor bumps, cuts, and bruises. There are a number of safety measures that are in place. The people who get injured typically chose to be on the minimum end of safety.
I live in the good ol Arkansas and we have annual ones but not nearly this fast of hits. That doesn’t mean anything as I’ve seen engines explode, cars get sent right over barriers and one dude get sprayed down with hot water out of a radiator
Many years ago I helped a friend prep some derby cars. What I recall is using oxy-acetalene to cut the q-panels behind the wheels to give them a better chance of bending up and out of the way of the wheels, but I'm not seeing much of this mod on these cars. Oh well, what do I know?
In my neck of the woods, hitting the drivers side door is against the rules & automatic rejection from the rest of the heats, is that a rule everywhere? Also, no more than 10 cars per heat @ about 5/6 heats. That many cars was overwhelming yet exciting😂 loved all the footage!

What's the idea behind using smaller wheels on the drive wheels than is standard? You see it on a lot of these cars
@@spenserford4479 allows more space for the rear end to bend, drops rear end lower to ground to make it harder to hit, less wheel to also hit
