We had an invasion of those beetles and sweat bees this year at our river property in Nebraska. Those beetles do bite and it hurts !

Lady bugs are friends to farmers. They eat aphids, mites and other pests. They yellow/orange that came out when she squished it is a defense mechanism. When it feels threatened, it produces a stinky yellow/orange substance. Where we live, the bears LOVE to eat lady bugs! We love having them in our garden! And supposedly, they bring good luck!

I can’t imagine owning all that land, wow. Here in the UK we are so over populated that homes with even a quarter of that land, would cost tens of millions. Our homes & gardens are TINY. Your home looks like heaven to me.

Is there anything one can do to kill off the beetles before they take over your property? The opening(s) in the ground could be a stream that has been developing slowly over time. A concern being a sinkhole(s) in the future depending on the depth of the new stream(s). Do you have a local extension office you can reach out to? Take care!

I’m gonna reach out to the Oklahoma State extension office in our area in the next month or so. See if they can give me some answers
