    Just bought my copy. Been waiting for this about eight years. If I only could've been a fly on the wall before Ray Lovejoy did any edits to marvel at all three hours and forty seven minutes of this fantastic art film. Thank You TASCHEN! One of the best art films of all time and I can enjoy all of the cut scenes!😁

    I really feel this needs to be more reasonably priced and accessible. The Kubrick archives book is $25 and this is $1500. Knowledge and understanding of the form shouldn't be paywalled, it should be popularized to help yield media of similar caliber. Gatekeeping rare insight into one of the most popular films of all time behind $1500 and a limited run of 1000 copies when there are a myriad of channels on here, notably Rob Ager (Collative Learning) and Joe Girard, giving free insight and analysis leagues beyond anything in the Kubrick archives book itself shows either 1. A greed. Or 2. An ignorance of the impact and importance of this work and the truly deep need to get this in the hands of any creator capable.
    In short, make this accessible.

      The world doesn’t ‘owe’ you a cheaper copy. You can access the same information for free in just ten years of work.

    • @golddragon51296
      @golddragon51296 Год назад +3

      @Alex May no, you can't. This is compiled of interviews with individuals, some of whom are no longer alive, his access and exclusivity to this information is unreplicable.

    • @alexmay2782
      @alexmay2782 Год назад +4

      @@golddragon51296 Well that proves my point. You have to pay for exclusivity that somebody has spent 12 years working for. It reasonably priced for a limited edition run and perfectly accessible. Can't afford it? Get a loan. Buy it, read it, sell it. Recover your investment.

      None of this info will be paywalled forever as they'll likely bring out a far cheaper edition down the track. You mention the Kubrick archives book is $25. It was originally in larger format and around $300 or so. They'll likely recoup their expenses with this first edition, then once sold out they'll bring out the more affordable people for everyone (like me) who doesn't have half a million in the bank. So fair points but just be patient, the later edition (likely this year or at the latest next) will probably have all the same stuff but be massively cheaper.

    • @golddragon51296

      @@alexmay2782 my point, which I repeatedly make, is that knowledge should not be paywalled. Yours is that it should. You're fundamentally arguing for elitism and greed within the field of education. All education should be open sourced and free

    It's my favorite horror movie, and big fan for Taschen, but too bad the price is very high .... really hope Taschen will release a smaller book for "The Shining" !
    I would have preorder right away for 500$, but can't afford 1500€ !
    Just prey we will get an edition like they did for 2001 Space Odyssey, but we'll have to be very patient.

    The work in pulling this off is phenomenal, and what a man for pulling it off. The price is too steep for a lot of genuine lovers of Kubrick though!

      Which so many in this thread don't want to understand and just write it off as 'greedy'.

    Sadly this is way overpriced at 3x the cost of the previous Taschen limited editions on 2001 and Napoleon.

    At the risk of sounding cliche, this is awesome! I can't afford the LE, but will order the next edition when available. BTW, does anyone know if he was able to interview Jack Nicholson for this project?

    Will there be a separate release for just The Making of book? Is it just only for the limited editions, or what?

    Books were meant to make information accessible. A limited edition at 2500 Euros a piece is the opposite of a book.

    I’ve been in love with The Shining my entire life, but $1,500 for a book really rubs me the wrong way. If you want to make a limited version of said book that adds value for a considerable price that’s one thing, but please release a realistic version that is accessible to a normal person that doesn’t have kind of money to invest into a book. This is 2023. We no longer live in an age where a set of encyclopedias cost $1,000.
    You want to make your money? Team up with a filmmaker that is obsessed with his work, like Christopher Nolan, and produce a documentary.
