  • For people who like putting something awesome playing in the background. It's just a looped version of the song that plays in the save rooms in Resident Evil 1, even tho the pic is from remake, but I really like that picture of the save room so suck it. Enjoy!

Me and my friend would spend the night at each other's house every weekend and we'd play resident evil till 6am. I remember this music would play throughout the night because we were both too scared to pick up the controller so we'd sit, eating twinkies and other junk food while we talked about whatever with this playing in the background until one of us musters up the courage to open the door and begin the horrors once again lol good times.

This is haunting as fuck. I swear game music is some of the most powerful music there is, perhaps it's because all of us attach subconscious memories of who we were at the time of playing, and the music brings it all back.

Truth Hurts _ This description hit me in a very visceral way. Over the last few days I've been listening to a lot of resident evil themes and the comments always seem to reflect the shared experience of adolescence and reflection on a time that we've all transitioned through. It's weird that a game of horror and isolation has brought about similar feelings in so many people.

This takes me back to a really weird night in August 2001. I was playing Resident Evil on my brother's PlayStation in our game room around midnight when nobody else was up. We lived in a rural area at the time, and the game room had a window that overlooked the main paddock of our property, which was empty since we were boarding our horses at a stable that summer. As I was playing I swore I could hear faint laughter coming somewhere but I shrugged it off as just my imagination. I got to the save area and sat there listening to the music for a bit. After a while I looked out the window and saw something that chilled me to the core. There were two people in the paddock, clearly visible since the moon was bright, moving around sporadically. I can't describe the feeling accurately in words but it felt like lightning went through my head and buzzed my entire body. I looked a little longer and made out that they were moving in only what I can describe as a sort of dance. Shortly after I muted it because the music was freaking me out, but I didn't want to turn it off since there was no way I was going to sit in darkness or turn on a light. After another few minutes I checked again and they were gone. It was absolutely surreal.
When I got up the next day I told my dad about what I saw and he laughed, then said that they came by the previous day to ask if they could dance out there. I asked him why and he said they met at our farm around 20 years ago (at the time) before my dad owned the place when they were staying at our place for some sort of camp or getaway that the previous owner ran. Since they were in the area at the time they drove up to see the farm, chatted with my dad a bit who was out front when they came up, and then they asked if they could briefly dance in the paddock that night. My dad didn't tell me but I think I was working that day and it wasn't a big deal to him. My dad also invited them for lunch the day after, so they ended up coming over and they were really sweet. We laughed a lot about the situation, since something so terrifying for me was a nice romantic moment for them. Funny how a little perspective can change things!

It's fascinating how a musical piece can evoke feelings at the opposite ends of the spectrum at the same time. It's as anxiety inducing as it is calming. It's like a musical equivalent to "You're safe for now, but you know what horrors lurk outside, and you can't stay here forever."

I was 17 (late 97 early 98) the first time i played RE1, and i remember it being winter. I used to get to these save rooms and have myself a short break with this music playing. Couple puffs from the bowl, a cigarette over by the window...
But while i was looking out at the woods out back, i would imagine this small stream that was out there, and I'd think of the moonlight shining down with a deep blueish hue, on fresh snow covering everything with the faint sound of water pouring down over rocks.
It's just there. With no one around, cold and dark, but it was peaceful and calm. Something about this lonely uneventful place made me feel at home. This became helpful to me later on in life, as stupid as it sounds.
Whenever I'd be in stressful situations feeling anxiety, i would imagine myself sitting there miles away from everything and everyone. Think of the music playing, left alone as long as i want to be, no one even knows this place exists.

This is some of the more nostalgic music I have to my memory. So simple, yet beautiful and haunting. It's calming because it was reassuring music; It played only in save/supply rooms and that meant you were safe. It was set in contrast to the rest of the soundtrack, and the rest of the mansion. Resident Evil (original version) was the first truly scary horror survival game and as a young teenager it was the greatest period for gaming: game play was experimental and most the paradigms we know today were yet to be explored. Throughout my first few hours of playing; I honestly thought Resident Evil was a haunted house scenario.

I don't know exactly how to explain the feeling that this track brings, but it's something like a heavy melancholy. It brings a vision as if you were the only person alive in the world and trapped alone in a nightmare.
No one to talk, no one to answer, no one to help... Just the isolation and the monsters outside. A relaxed and conformed kind of loneliness and lack of hope. Something WAY depressive and phantasmagoric. Could it be this that they intended to?

Playing this game on a Sunday evening and ending the night at the save room with this tune preparing you for the new week. They were simpler times, video games truly are special.

Is it just me or does this have like a Donkey Kong underwater theme to it?

+Endless Endeavour It definitely does, I was thinking the same thing. It's the notes the bassy synth is playing, that scale is the same one used in "Aquatic Ambience." And the pitch bend on the pad sound, there's a similar pitch bend in that song. Awesome stuff.
