It's not even just nascar, almost every media is using nostalgia as a cheap gimmick to keep older fans while completely forgetting what it made it good. They should double down and give us the old cars back and get rid of the weird gimmicky rules and points or not do it all. Nascar is trying to balance pleasing old fans that already left and casual new zoomer fans while failing at both.

3:02 oh wow, a track with 2 dates isn’t working out?
Not surprised. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t like 2 track race dates a year for any big major racing series.

I personally have no problems with the return North Wilkesboro or Brickyard 400 or even Bowman Gray. The problems I see here stems with NASCAR itself being enslaved to what TV networks want. Later start times, more commercial TV yellows like with stages, the current playoff format that doesn't get uptick in viewership/ratings, changing the exhibition races, and many of the gimmicks. Then Cup car itself is utterly a disaster outside of multi groove tracks.

With that, I have to spend my money on all the tv services/ subscriptions, preventing me from attending races in person. I have to purchase HBO next year for the in car cameras. It’s exhausting

My main gripe for NASCAR's use of nostalgia, is that you cannot watch a Daytona 500 without seeing the footage of the 1979 "fight" over and over....and over again.
That was 45 years ago....to promote a current race?

@@JakeSimRacingforgive me if I'm wrong but isn't Rockingham more raced like a speedway? Whenever I play it in 04 you go from 135mph to about 185mph then back down to 135 again? The tire falloff feels more like Darlington than Richmond or martainsville

  • @IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT

I find that ironic because they still try to be less about racing and more about WWE and ball sports on wheels to please casuals who only care about gimmicks and crashes and ignore pure auto racing fans who knows how auto racing works.
I don’t have a problem with North Wilkesboro’s return because an iconic track like NWS should stay in business and, Brickyard 400 should always be on the oval, and as for Bowman Gray Stadium…. I’m skeptical, but I know NASCAR would ruin it with their gimmicks and BS.

NASCAR lost the fans when they went to the playoffs. The pure raw stats show that. Then they got rid of short tracks for cookie cutter 1.5 mile tracks. Finally a driver said recently that NASCAR cannot compete with the NFL and the schedule should be modified!! I agree, and the playoffs should be dumped completely!!

I live 10 mins away and go to Bowman Gray every weekend. This gives back to the community where it all started. Going back to N.Wilkesboro was awesome. I was there when the Cars Tour w Dale Jr went back for the first time and it was electric. It’s a huge positive for the community. NASCAR owes us this from starting the stupid ass playoffs and stages.

Since nobody on the internet can say anything positive about current NASCAR: The current Xfinity car is the single greatest car NASCAR has ever created. Truck series Playoff racing is incredible. Ratings have stagnated for the first time in decades. Only reason they havent been up is because of major races getting impacted by weather. Say what you want about racing but the Jeff Gluck polls don't lie. It will never be perfect, but the sport is heading in the right direction.

You can't stop dirty air man it will keep existing. Having 1 race date per track is the best thing Nascar can do to help attendance. The playoffs keep younger fans engaged especially with our low attention span.

  • @zachronspees6432

JakeSimRacing, think you're a little off on this one. Think the real reason for the move to Bowman Gray is twofold, first is due to money. It is cheaper to use a prebuilt track than having to rebuild one every year. Second reason is politics. CA is far left, and they basically want to kill off the automobile as we know them. With a law stating no new car with a combustion engine can be sold in CA by 2035. Think that was part of the reason Nascar took the actions they did, with closing down Auto Club and going over to a rental model with the Coliseum, in hopes that policy would change. Unfortunately over that time CA has double down on that kind of policy(ie going after people with vintage/classic cars) and Nascar is pulling out. As for the Nostalgia aspect I would say that is more of a bonus. As to your point Nascar has always has been a regional sport, that started gaining national attention in the 80s due to media & sponsorship. The problem with that it was almost a case of too much too fast, and the leadership felt like they had to push to get into larger markets. As we have seen since the 80s most larger markets, might boost ratings/attendance for the first few races but not over years or even decades.

I agree with most of what you have said. And let's go back to letting boys be boys and stop this nonsense about "a clean race". What do we have a bunch of 80 year old grandma's racing. Daytona and Talladega are boring...take the restrictor plates off, put a big spoiler (or some kind of turbulence generator) on the back to make pack racing difficult and eliminate that yellow line rule but expand the lower line so we get back to racing instead of just a 38 car parade.
