You go to prison in California for defending yourself. Which is why, it really is in your best interest to do nothing. Having stuff stolen really sucks but I promise you, spending years in court rooms, years of legal fees and years in prison sucks a lot worse.
This is called the “do nothing approach “ to policing. And it’s why criminals are becoming bolder and more violent.
A good solution to this is getting in your vehicle while they are under it, starting it, and revving it out.

In San Diego three suspects were observed under/around a car sawing off a catalytic converter, police were called and chased them in their car for a short while and upon making contact found eight sawed - off catalytic converters, several saws and tools with the suspects hands and clothes grimy with steel dust . A short time later the D.A. dropped all charges because of “lack of evidence”. This is the world that we live in, in which serial criminals are well aware of the utter lack of consequences for their violent, thieving actions and will continue to wreak havoc on our lives with impunity.

this happened to my brother's car 2 years ago. We have a camera set up out front where we park our cars, cops showed up 8 hours later, watched our camera video, and we havent heard or seen anything happen since. You cant trust anyone to protect you when theyre not there, you have to be able to protect yourself. The only thing that we need from the cops are the law and the jail system, other than that everyone should protect their own life and properties.
Police is not there to prevent crime or to protect citizens, but to protect system from citizens.

My catalytic converters were stolen just the other day from my hotel, caught the guys on camera and the police said to file a report online…. They haven’t done shit to find the guy and it cost 5000 dollars to get fixed. Kinda wishing I went out there with my gun and a baseball bat and just cracked his knee caps. If I was a cop and someone sent in the same evidence that I sent in the very first thing I’d be doing on that shift is going to talk to the owner of the car and then impounding the car because it was used to commit a crime and is now a part of an investigation.
Now let that same man steal a politicians catalyic converter or they steal it from a corporate store. This man would've been shot dead after a police chase

Stop the scrap dealers from buying the converters. Everybody talk about the thieves while the scrap dealers continue to be allowed to buy stolen goods. It is downright incomprehensible that this is taking place. There are scrap dealers in western Wisconsin who openly ask for catalytic converters from certain car models AND even list what they will pay.

Mine got stolen last year from a parking my deductible is 250 my insurance policy did not go up after everything it was little over $2,000

While I was warming it up...had 2 set of car keys in it costed me 1100..then I had to put up better cameras they used a signal jammer to knock out wifi. That little move costed me 2500. Still paying for that...the boldness is they came back 3 times trying to still car again..do to old law I couldn't shoot them...went and bought a shot gun laws changed. Now it's open season on scum. I dont want to kill anybody worried about wife leaving in morning.. but I will live on my feet...then tremble in fear...
You won't get any back from the crooks and they aren't likely to be caught and/or charged with anything serious. The crooks do this because they have little to fear and what they make selling the stolen converters is more than they would have to pay for a misdemeanor larcerny charge.

THIS reminds me of a childhood story of when i was a kid my older brother was playing with one of the neighbors kids. Long story short the kid ended up stealing my dads wifes wallet.

The license plates usually stolen. I have encountered someone stealing a catalytic converter once and thankfully he didn’t have a weapon on him he got spooked and left the area. But this is just sad.
