So interesting watching this process. I’d not seen this type of housing structure before which made the video series that much more interesting. Thank you so much for numbering the videos too. Very impressive work.
what a great build, all the family chipping in, great stuff! i have followed you from the start and found it very interesting, good luck with the finishing, it wont be long now! watch your back ive had trouble with mine for 50 years so know what its like, all the best, bye.
Excellent video sir. Lot to learn. Roof done and also outside plasting completed looking great. you are driving force. We are waiting your wife's garden
That home is lovely - grey like the land it sits on and blue at the top in the sky. Small but monolithic in style. I can't wait to see what you do with the interior.
I just recently discovered your channel and it is great!!! I did all of the YouTubie things, so I liked, subscribed, rang the bell, commented and shared!!! I plan in the next year or two on moving to AZ and building the same way your son is!!! The minute my income situation gets revolved I'm hitting the road!!! I like so much about building with hype adobe, like Low cost and is something most people can do without needing a builder contractor and all of the other construction contractors needed to finish installing the various fields of each specialty. So thank you for sharing both builds with us, as I also learned a lot from your build as well!!!! So looking forward to seeing the final and finished product!!!! Oh yeah, those leach fields make great places for growing ornamental gardens!!!!!!! Much love, many blessings and happy trails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Appreciate it, thanks so much! Hyperadobe is a great way to go. Just make sure you find property that is in an area that allows alternative owner builder homes. Best wishes! 🌞🏜️
You and your family are impressive! Enjoy your videos. Wish you all the best! Saludos de Durango México!! Thank you for all your advice! Your voice is nice and soothing.
Another fun project to add on to the House. Start excavating a in earth layer floor beneath for food storage, water cooling or even enlarging the home but down and cooler.
Happy that your back is better. I have ten years as a massage therapist and pulled my back a couple of time. Thank you for documenting abd sharing this.
This has been great to watch!! I'm in Northern Cochise County but i would gladly lend a helping hand anytime y'all were will to have an amateur yahoo come help and learn. Thanks for posting!
I like all the shade the overhang gives. i bet your son is happy he can move into a permanent home soon. I wouldn't feel comfortable in an RV on those windy days.
Yes, it should keep it a lot cooler. Living in his RV he refuses to buy propane, and his air conditioner doesn't work, so it will be much nicer and quieter living in the earth home.
glad to hear that your back is better. rooks great and should last a long time. now its work in interior. thanks for the update and have a wonderful start to the weekend
The house looks great and is a wonderful example of the strength and positivity of family. Thanks for showing us so much detail. Im watching from Australia. 🌈 🌻 🐨
Thank you for sharing this video of your son’s build. Red, thankfully your back did not remain a longer term issue requiring medical intervention. April, I hope your kids treat you well this Mother’s Day. Looking forward to seeing your garden as it evolves this year. Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Peace
Watching the build form Sydney. Adoring the fascinating build and enjoying the process. Keep up the great work, both myself and a bunch of close friends are cheering you along. PS: Sorry to hear about the back injury. Rest up and be careful.
Oh wow! It’s looking fantastic! I love the bobcat and the owl at the end. The owl blends in so well. I have seen an owl nest in our wash too. So awesome. Eventually we want to build an owl box. ❤❤❤❤
I'm really enjoying this series, just discovered your channel! Im a career painter, and if i may, id like to recommend using actual exterior wood primer on your trim. Those paint/primer products are not all they're hyped to be. Primer will bite through any mill-glaze and generally provide a longer lasting and more attractive finish. Thanks for documenting this cool project so clearly. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing this video. I enjoyed watching it as well as admiring the great dynamics you have as a family. We need this kind of videos more and more positive and inspiring. More blessings to your family, God bless you.
When you were doing the roof if money permitted maybe you could have put some solar cells there to generate electricity. Great build though I enjoyed watching this, I've watched the whole series multiple times
Interesting that you went with the galvanized R panels. I have a 24 x 30 shop that has the same R panels, it started out as just a covered carport so the galvanized was fine. After I enclosed it, I felt it was to hot so I painted the roof white, I’m glad I did.
The silver galvanized was less expensive, so we did a quick temperature check on our house, and it was a little cooler than the white. It surprised us too. The dark gray was definitely much hotter. It's not summer here yet, so it may not be completely accurate, and the only white we could easily get to on house is the trim. We might could compare it to our white roof in the summer.
Awesome, glad you found something that helped! One of the kids got us a nice hand massager a few years ago. It is great for sore muscles and injuries. 🙂
It's looking great! I bet your son is getting very excited! We finally got a septic guy out here to get a soil perc test done and waiting on the paperwork to file our opt-out permit. We will be able to get started soon I hope! ❤🎉
It's so much bigger than the house, it covers a huge amount of area! Seems crazy for just a sink, toilet and dishwasher! Glad his soil didn't fail the perc test though.
My back started making problems when I was 55-60. Now I am almost 83 and, it still plays up sometimes. Probably my own fault, should not be on my back under a car. Nice project by the way that your family is doing.
Nice video. Maybe you'll consider having solar panels on top of your roof in the future. Apart from providing additional electricity, it would prevent heat from entering via the roof...
Is it a code/structural reason that two thin layers of foam would require more purlins on top? (Two layers pro: can stagger the seams, cons : as you have mentioned.)
It was just a decision based on what we felt comfortable with. Thicker foam means longer screws, more risk of compression, and a less secure connection.
From my limited research, subsurface distribution constructed wetlands MAY be built between the septic tank and leech lines. An Inspector simply ignores them. But it does NOT replace the leech field Code requirement. At no point can the effluent come to the surface. (Cochise County NM) Correct me if this is incorrect/incomplete
Thanks! We considered adding vents and could add them later. The vents are typically for the attic space, and this is an unvented roof without an attic, so they shouldn't be needed.
It's important to step in the right place when walking on the foam layer because if you step in the wrong place you'll go through the foam layer and this will ruin the foam layer. So they can walk carefully you can install the foam board and cut the foam board. So you can cut the foam board to install it correctly. You don't want to squish the foam. When walking on foam layers, it is important to step carefully and install the foam board correctly. To do this, place the foam board on a flat, stable surface, cut it to size, and secure it in place. Avoid stepping on the edges or damaging the foam layer. By following these steps, you can help to ensure that your foam layers last for many years. The foam layer is delicate and needs to be handled with care. When walking on it, you have to make sure you step on the right spots, otherwise you might sink into the foam and damage it. To avoid this, you can use a foam board as a guide. You can cut the foam board to fit the shape of the foam layer and place it on top of it. This way, you can walk safely on the foam board and install the foam layer correctly. Be careful not to compress the foam too much when cutting or placing it.
The foam had it's challenges for sure. Sometimes there's not a lot that needs to be said, but better to say something than nothing. I could have just played music, but someone's going to complain no matter what you do.
@@timerickson7056 We installed our own septic. There were 2 inspections, we didn't have any issues. Ours cost $6,000, for materials and the backhoe rental. We put in a plastic tank and 100 feet of gravel leech field.
They half dug up several of our plants a couple of months ago, but don't typically come around. Now we have cages around all of the plants and trees. A license is required to hunt them.

The roof doesn't slope in the right direction and it's not at the right pitch. He already has enough solar panels. 🌞
How much did it cost to install the septic?
It was expensive!! Possibly more than his whole house will cost. Around $15,000!

Thanks for the input SoloSailor. We haven't looked into it, or heard of anyone using one around here.
Did you look into the incinerator toilets?
Haven't looked into it, a septic system is required here.

They are barefoot shoes. Yes, they are flat and don't have a heal.
Very cool, I try to go barefooted a lot and wear shoes like that often myself
Y'all in Texas, or New Mexico? Just curious about climate and geography you have to deal with.

@@RedandAprilOff-Grid thank you for the reply. Impressive to build a passive home in that climate.
Curious what the septic system cost was I'm budgeting for a build shortly .
It was $15,000! Our daughter's septic right next door was $9,000 two years ago, but it has 100 feet of leach field, compared to his 225 feet.

So sorry about your back. Try to do some short ice baths three times a week for four to five minutes at a time.
Thanks! Yes, ice was helpful. It was pretty bad for 3 days, then started getting well enough to try some exercises. Glad it recovered fairly quickly.
What is the total cost for this house? :)
Not sure yet, but we are thinking around $15,000.

1 inch

Yes 🌞🏜️

I understand that the thin insulation is cheaper, but this does almost nothing to prevent heat coming in. Nowadays a minimum of 10cm is required.
The foam board is to create a thermal break over the beams and purlins. The roof will also be insulated.
how much would you charge me in labor to build me one just like it
It's priceless. 😄 We are done with building houses for now.
yes drain field ridiculous
Are you all planning to have farm animals for food on your place?
Probably not. Lots of work and expense. I am tempted to get a few chickens, but we'll see.
Where was son-inlaw’s hat?
Yeah, he lost it pretty early on, and decided it wasn't worth trying to keep it on with the wind. He did get a bit of a sunburn. 🌞
Man I have had recent back surgery.
Hope your recovery goes well!
We are glad he wasn't lifting anything heavy when it went out, it could have been a lot worse.
I livie in Ontario Canada and the permits would cost more than that building.
Yes, they can be expensive here too, but in our county all of the permits are less than $450. It definitely saves a lot of money!
