  • Farmer-herders’ clashes have been among the major factors hindering agricultural and livestock development in Nigeria, and also led to loss of lives and properties.
While both parties are accusing each other of causing the clashes, herders believe that only the government has the capacity to end such clashes.
Some herders in Gombe have opined that providing them with newly created grazing reserves or restoring the known ones will be the most effective measure to address the agelong conflict.
Trust TV's Hassan Koli visited a herder’s hut in the Akko local government area and filed this report.
Cattle routes blocked by farmers during the rainy season are among the most challenging aspects of being a herder in Gombe, especially during harvest periods.
Living in the middle of farmlands Akko local government area, Yusuf and his elder brother were struggling to care for their animals, guarding them closely to avoid any farmland destruction.
However, the blockage of cattle routes where animals pass to search for water and grasses around the area is threatening their livelihood as their animals are spending 3 to 5 days without water due to the route’s blockage.

They should just build ranches for them, we’ve tried the “grazing areas” and this is where it got us.
