The word Boost says it all, it amplifies the signal , this amplification produces excess heat. maybe you can mount it on a plate of aluminum? Aluminum is an excellent heatsink and heat conductor.
It was Heraclitus who said we can't step into the same river twice. As you observe when speaking about friends you've met on the road moving on, the only constant in life is change. Especially as I get older and look back on the many chapters of my life I come to appreciate that every moment, every encounter is precious simply because nothing lasts forever. You have a fine attitude Brian and as always, you share wonderful information on whatever topic you choose to cover. I definitely look forward to your videos and I've lived in the same cottage for 26 years. Thanks.
Thank you for your channel. I appreciate that your content is informative, relevant, clean and covers useful and interesting subject matter. You seem to have a sense of what your viewers want to know and you are good at staying on topic and providing easy to view and understand videos. Thank you. I always look forward to watching your uploads.
THANKS BRIAN!!!! I do enjoy your videos too , much better that the boob tube. My 8 yr old grand-daughter started me on the you-tube life. I love google, but this is like google coming to life !!! My subscribed list just gets longer and longer.
Brian, Sorry about you loosing you travel partner. I remember when I moved to San Diego when I was in my 20's from the mid west and I was homesick for the first 1 year or maybe 2. It's so hard to leave family/friends behind! You have a lot of wisdom in your thought process! Your a good guy!
+RPMComputer Thank you for your comment. I miss my family and loved ones in San Diego all the time. It's one the hardest parts of living on the road. ✌
thank you for the great info. this has been a concern for my wife and me as we get ready to hit the road late summer. love the tripod idea and the antenna booster. were getting so anxious to hit the road!
I'm sure she had a great time with you! Her van really inspired me. She did such a simple yet perfect design. I'm sure glad you have been going the extra miles to get these videos up loaded! I am so enjoying them!
Your drone footage followers probably would have loved a flyover while the tripod was up. The $80/month is a big hit for internet, but better than the gas spent trying to find reliable wifi. A must have for a digital nomads.
Geeze I love your videos... Every time I think you can't say more cool stuff and messages... that message at the beginning was great, and in general, another fantastic video. Thanks!
Yet another great vid. I enjoy them all, however ones like these are special...they answer those questions that I know a majority of us are asking ourselves or are wondering about as or after we watch your vids. Its cool that service is becoming more affordable. I have Sprint with unlimited data for around 68 or something like that...I've had this plan for along time, I definitely don't ever want to not have an unlimited data plan...glad you've found a good plan that fits for you...keeping that/those monthly expenses down is key I imagine.
Great video! A classy way of framing things. Attachments when they are mutually satisfying and productive are to be desired. I agree, one has to be sparing with heart investments. You have shown me that is quite possible to be fully connected on the road.
Excellent! I just bought the Verizon Jetpack and have the unlimited plan. So glad to learn that it works so well. I checked on Amazon, they still have the Wilson Cell phone booster so I may get one of those right now. Thank you so much for the technical info as well as the philosophical musings of on the road life.
I had so much fun traveling with you! Favorite memories... the campfire night at Fiesta Island, getting lost in Venice beach, hot springs, YOUR PIZZA! Miss you tons already! Until next time. -Jamie
Julie M Thanks Julie! Not going to lie, I had an amazing time. The whole thing feels kinda surreal now looking back. Hopefully we'll meet up again ⛰️🏜️🚐☺️
a lot of great information! Have you considered taking your tripod idea to the next level, make a single pole tower from pvc, it could be in several 5' sections with screw connectors. I use the selfie sticks from the dollar tree and they slip right into 1/2" pvc, I dont totally trust the clamping action of the selfie stick so I add a rubberband or 2, a couple hose clamps could hold it to the roof rack leaving a foot or so down the van side for added support
LOL..... i know NOTHING about cellphone/internet reception, but i was just thinking of 2-3 longest pvc tubes, one sliding inside the other/(telescoping) & secured with a wooden dowel 'pin'(?). lash it to a rope-loop coming out the base & top of your passenger door...... you can get up to 3-inch and 4-inch diameter pvc tubes!!! :-)
Wow. I am surprised, that data and cell is that expensive in U.S.! Here i Denmark i pay 16 USD a month for unlimited talk, text and data with 4G service. Much cheaper. Thanks for your vids Brian, i enjoy every single one of them.
Yes Brian! That was very helpful. I think when I start out I'll need to find signal spots and use one service, unless I have a 2nd source of income that kicks in. I also think I could adapt to 85, but is kinda hot for me... 90 and if I could I might focus on a place in summertime that stays not to humid, and no warmer than 85. Thanks for the tripod antenna tip! :)
Hi Brian: Well, you have now learned what many ham radio operators know: an antenna up high works far better than one down low. Cell signals are in the mid to upper UHF frequency area, and the signals "propagate" as "line of sight" for the most part, which is why it's good to get an antenna up as high as possible. Or park your van on a mountain top. It's nice to have a second use for your tripod. There are telescoping masts that are taller, but they are one-trick-ponies. Anyway, having two modes of connecting is excellent.. like what the Navy Seals say, "Two is one, and one is none." BTW, love your culinary adventures. But, I'll pass on the hot sauce. :)
thanks for sharing about your internet info. very informative thanks for taking us along with you on your journey. I will never get to see as many places, so thank you. I would rather watch youtube and my friends than any stupid crap on tv. Hollywood tells us what to watch, but I don't have to. I like this so much better. stay safe and happy trails. Joyce
Hi Brian! It would be great to see some trail rides on that mountain bike. Winter here in Maine is making me very envious of your desert scenery and the trail possibilities. Chris
Glad to hear the info on the Weboost. I have the whole hose cell booster at home and it works great for me. Just purchased the Weboost mobile set up similar to yours and was hoping for good results on my next road trip. Not sure that the little antenna will work any better raised in the air It is using the ground plane that the metal roof provides. Perhaps small directional antenna would work better when parked in marginal service areas?
Great topic Brian, Staying connected on the road is a must and a concern, glad you shared the methods that you use to stay connected, If it works for you Im sure it will work for ma :) thanks again Brian for sharing all your videos, safe travels my friend :)
Great info; thank you. I check out the Verizon jet pack at my local library here in Seattle. Way cool free service. New service that's been going on here at Seattle Public Libary for a couple years.
I also rely on my online business for my income. I appreciate the cheap and easy idea of improving reception by simply putting your phone or jetpack on a tripod on the roof. I will try that. My adventure with the older version of WeBoost here in the Sierra was not as good as your experience. I was getting false positives. I don't know why. Here in the Sierra, I have had the best luck with ATT. It is good to hear that companies are beginning to offer unlimited data plans for more reasonable rates.
quick tip that you may already know since this is over a year old. You can pick up directional and omnidirectional cradlepoint 4g antenna for that wilson sleek that will give you much better signal range than the stock one. My house is like 4-5 miles out of coverage and using an upgraded antenna i got 4glte at about 7meg p/s. Not bad considering I had NO data with the stock wilson setup.
Thank you for all the information. I have wondered about wifi and cell service when out in the middle of nowhere. So RV/van dwelling doesn't mean total isolation.
Suggestion ... I haven't tried this yet, but it seems, in principle, like it would improve the heating of water in the shower sprayer. Low-tech solar cooking can be accomplished by using oven bags like those folks use to roast turkey. A couple of those -- one containing the sprayer and slightly inflated and that assembly in the second bag fully inflated would let the sunlight through to heat and be absorbed by the black surface while creating an air barrier to prevent heat from escaping. Next time I get to the dollar store I'm planning to pick up the oven bags to test this.
Thanks Brian. I was wondering how I was owing. To get service in the boonies..Solar won't do you much good,if you charge up your electronics, but, can't get service. Thanks again..see ya out there
We just got the WeBoost and it still gets really hot.
They addressed that problem, which means they talked about it. Problem solved.
The word Boost says it all, it amplifies the signal , this amplification produces excess heat.
maybe you can mount it on a plate of aluminum? Aluminum is an excellent heatsink and heat conductor.

Steen J that's amazing. The prices reflect the US' unfortunate capitalist approach to life: charge as much as you can convince people to pay.
Good vlog, nice scenery and interesting account on how you stay connected.
Coming to the States in May and will be traveling around for 5 months so found this info helpful. have enjoyed your other videos also... Mac
