You should see launceston. Absolutely awful yet more and more houses are being built that local people can't afford. They then get bought by richer people around the uk who rent them out and a stupid price

I'm Cornish and have never been on a St Ives beach. The poverty has nothing to do with Brexit. Cornwall has been poor for the past 100 years. In that time, jobs have slowly dwindled and housing prices and rents have become unaffordable on Cornish wages, which haven't kept up with the rest of the country. Tourism has always been strong in Cornwall. The only difference is all the hotels and guesthouses have gone and the little houses which would have been rented by local working people are now Air B&Bs. There will be a shuffle and times will change, like everything in life. In the old days, people moved away for work, like the miners did in the 19th century, but now folk refuse to leave the county and choose to struggle and spend their whole time moaning about everything. I used to work in mining, but when I got made redundant in 1985, I moved away because I knew finding a decent job would be very difficult. That was 40 years ago, so imagine how bad it's got in that time, it definitely hasn't got better, just more crowded as people move down seeking the elusive job and a paradise that doesn't exist. Cornwall is still seen as utopia. I don't understand the obsession myself. It's turning into Manchester on Sea. When people come to Cornwall, all they want to do is go to the beach or live near a beach and they'll sit there all day even if it's cloudy and cold. Portreath Beach is only a couple of miles from Redruth and there will be lots of people there, but they just drive past all the old towns to get to the beaches. It's very odd that the essential every day shops have closed, yet galleries and potteries are opening. Sadly, I fear they will not be there very long due to lack of passing trade and the stupidly high bills. Sorry to hear Denzils has gone. They made good pasties. Good to see the greengrocers is still trading. Cornwall Council has a lot to answer for. If they made parking free, it would encourage shoppers, but there aren't any shops, so it's a Catch 22 situation. The cost of living has kicked in and folk don't have any spare cash for luxuries. I have been told that tourists aren't spending much. They are taking their own food down to the beach and just browsing in the shops and not spending. A Kurdish barber is Camborne! Is there any demand??. There are way too many barbers and hair salons on the high street. I don't know how they all get enough business to survive. It's a bit ironic that the pod park has on-site security. Who's paying for that? Yet, the locals are too frightened to leave their homes. Something is very wrong.
There’s alot of very rich Cornish making plenty of money off their inherited cottages rented out as holiday lets. Trying getting something to eat in St Ives all eateries are booked out as so busy even though not cheap. Cornwall needs a Jersey style protection on properties be bought up by non locals & businesses unless the council are going to build enough social housing for lower earners.
Didn't Cornwall used to receive a lot of EU Grants to help deprived areas? The loss of those much have had a negative impact. Also I grew up in the Camborne and Redruth area in the 1970s while there were pockets of poverty in those towns they were full of thriving businesses and still quite prosperous. I do remember it starting to go downhill in the 1980s which is why my parents sold up and we moved up country.
@@GilgameshThorne yes it did, but I think a lot of it got wasted. In the old days, the poverty wasn't so evident. As you say, the towns were still thriving in the 80s and 90s, but underneath it all, folk were struggling to afford to buy a property (me being one) and wages were pretty poor compared to the rest of the country.

I live in pool, I’m Cornish born and bred and I’ll probably never own my own property ,I’ve lived in a bed sit my whole life and I’m now 36 .
It’s definitely a hard graft to live here but I’d rather stay here and be struggling than in living in a populated city or area that people seem to just exist .
I take nothing for granted here and live everyday I wake up with the beautiful views ,sea ,countryside and I’d rather be poor with that on my doorstep anyday ,and I know I speak for the rest .
Granted Redruth and Camborne are shitholes but a lot of people don’t help themselves if I’m honest, full of crackheads and wastes of space .
It's the samenin many places. London, Essex, all along the other coast and up the east coast, locals can't afford to buy in these places

@@mkdons22actually a lot of kids in Camborne that is 15 minutes away from the sea can’t afford to go to the beach. It’s not all luxury bondi beach living down here. Most of us still work 9-5 and can’t afford fuel to go beach constantly. At least you got job opportunities in Birmingham or Manchester

They could put a supervisor in charge and they could literally create jobs doing that and help these homeless people to get money and to get places actual places, not tents or pods or whatever you wanna call him literally places to live.

People on social benefits could be doing this daily. Instead we get no contribution towards society. Just a bunch of lost souls on the booze or drugs.

Deprivation in Cornwall isn't limited to the west - East Cornwall towns like Liskeard, Callington and Launceston suffer similar deprivation but don't get the support and infrastructure from Cornwall Council

I lived in Cornwall for three years in the Helston. I truly enjoy my tour of duty at RNAS Culdrose. My son was born in Truro 1993. The county had nothing but love for my family as an African Americans family. I would love to move back there. My favorite pub was the Bell and the Horse and Jockey. The current state of affairs now is very sad. I very much miss my friends there

The barbers deal in cash 😂 obviously you can pay by card but when asked they always opt for cash . I live in a village in Worcestershire and we have loads of them , hardly anyone in them so think the money laundering is rife yet our government will clamp down on people selling clothes on Vinted 😂
It's not necessary money laundering, it's so that they get 100% of their money. If someone pays by card, they loose a percentage of their income to the banks as the banks charge them

The barbers that were featured in the video are a blatant money laundering outfit, there is one in Camborne and one in Redruth with the same name which were both in the video, and neither of them ever have any customers hence why the barber was outside on his phone.
My street now has 6 Turkish barber shops. I just dunno how the council allowed this
"Turkish" = Pakistanis and Bangladeshis usually. Dodgy phone shops. Dodgy barbers, dodgy mystery meat outlets. There is no way the vast majority of these places are legitimately making a profit.

I lived in Warsaw in Poland for 13 years. The first 8 or 9 years there I experienced bitterly cold winters. Quite a few homeless on the streets of Warsaw. Begging is widespread. Some are genuine cases...many are not. It is noticeable that the homeless are far more visible in the spring and summer. There are places the homeless folk can stay and get a bed and food in warm accommodation. There is a rule however that they must adhere to. You can probably guess what it is. Why do you think the homeless are more visible in the spring and summer ? Many homeless people don't drink alcohol but the majority do. The situation could be worse... a Belarusian student told me about life on the streets in Minsk where regular 'street cleaning' takes place conducted by the city police. The winters in Poland are milder now. I left Warsaw in 2018. I hope things have improved regarding the homeless folk but I would surprised if there have been any significant changes.

I’m Cornish & proud & I’ve lived in Redruth & the surrounding areas all of my life. Thank you for showing our town in a positive light. Yes there are problems like most places but we really do have a great sense of community. Currently we are redeveloping the Buttermarket which is opening next month, a new food hub transformed from historic buildings. We’ve also got a great Art Deco styled Cinema & we are home to Kresen Kernow which holds 850 years worth of Cornish archives, it is in fact the world’s largest collection! We are mid county so it’s easy to get to Falmouth, Truro etc very easily, especially as we’re on the main train line. So yes, we are sometimes at the receiving end of a lot of local jokes but it’s actually a pretty cool place to live 🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛 thank for the videos Wendall - Claire 🫶
Having been in cornwall for 22 years, thru the Royal Navy, the biggest problem is work and the lack of affordable housing, the housing is being built but the local youngsters cant afford the mortgages, and alot of the older Cornish complain about building because of there view. Cornwall is beautiful, you struggle as a young person to get around, really a car is required as soon as your legal for driving, so it does have problems!

Cornish born and raised, did a few a years away and love being back in the county.. It's so easy to make this content (You should of seen Camborne in the early 80's, that was poverty!), every resort from Cornwall to Colorado has issues with crime and housing. "Disneyland for retired Tory's"... whatever, it's all been said before, change the record or at least do a little bit of research before coming to an area, speak to the local hardworking councillor in Redruth and the plans for the town. I know you met some local businesses, but getting your voxpox from outside Iceland.. you know what you're going to hear.
I don't earn much, but I've spent the summer surfing , fishing, and walking, even managed a couple of music festivals (all 10 minutes from Redruth).. yea, we have fun and enjoy were we live! It's not all doom and gloom, and until you have some answers perhaps think about another model for your channel.
Yeah I remember Camborne in the early 80s and the long ques outside the dole office which at that time was down by the side of where Tesco (then Rowe Bowl) used to be. Of all my friends only a handful found work after leaving full time education. Fortunately in my case I didn't have to sign on for too long, my parents sold up and left Cornwall for Hampshire where it was easy to find work. My mates and I used to hang around the square when I was about 18-19 years old but we didn't get drunk, couldn't afford to lol .

Spent a week in and around St Ives last month, amazing place and some of the best scenery I’ve been to around the world, doesn’t feel like it’s England.

Back in the early 00s, I knew someone who worked for the Regional Development Agency in Cornwall. Objective One was money handed over to Cornwall via the EU.
The amount of monies given to Cornwall was in the region of £300 million. Over the next decade, the Objective One money was heavily squandered by Third Sector groups and used predominantly for paying staff and using the cash on projects that haven't lasted or benefited Cornwall. A large black hole swallowed up the majority of Objective One, including mishandling of funds and local corruption. To me, it didn't seem like the money benefited Cornwall at all. Now, the government has moved on to the next level of funding rounds, but this time, it's the Green Agenda and sustainability measures being applied to Cornwall. This process is about limiting growth and controlling progression in favour of environmental control measures in towns and cities, plus removing the car. From my perspective, Cornwall and the rest of the country are becoming poorer, and living standards are starting to drop gradually.
Sorry but I worked on several EU funded projects that really benefited local people and businesses. All run on a shoestring..by no means massive salaries and all the money went to help local people. I could probably give you 200-300 stories of individuals that really benefited.
@hazza5999 200-300 stories. Cornwall had 300 million spent through the RDA. 300 million that went nowhere. If those schemes set out by EU/Government funding HAD made a difference to the social and economic structures, then where are the fruits of prosperity for Cornwall? £340+ million blown with very little to show for it. One thing I'll say is that the councils got some nice funding from it. The Bude canal scheme and a number of heritage projects, plus the Universities, made a handsome dig into the substantial pool of monies. Cornwall was left high and dry by Objective One. Multimillions that could've done substantial good economically were squandered.
The amount of money squandered or disappearing on 'Art Projects' for a select few who are friends with councillors or Bid members is scandalous in Cornwall.

Yes there were issue's with the Objective One, (you don't mention Convergence???) programmes, but the crucial point is the post Brexit funding Cornwall has got through SPF is a tiny fraction of what we were promised by Boris etc.

I could debate all day with you the successes and failures of the EU funding programmes over the last 20 years, but your comment about councils doing well out of funding tells me you have a lot to learn.

Because I certainly don't see it, and others I've worked with in business don't see it either. Objective One was a gravy train for many and very little filtered down to the general population. The first subset of funding for Objective One ran for a number of years, and yes, councils got quite a few projects funded. But as for the benefits????? I'm yet to see any. You must be living in cloud cuckoo land....
St Austell, Cornwall, where I come from was a really nice place to live and it went downhill as soon as they built a drug/Alcohol rehab place in the town. I moved away and haven't even visited for nearly 20 years.

I think seaside towns are the same everywhere. Plenty of work May to September rest of the year nothing. I am from Newquay and there was no work out of season but you just had to make do. I now Iive in Londom and have a good job. Every year go to Cornwall to spend my hard earned cash in my small attempt to help put money back into Cornwall. I don't have a second home and when I return I camp, but I would love one day to return there to live. However, things have changed so much and even if I sold my London home, all my posesessions and my boat I could not afford to do so. How sad is that, I had to leave to make money to live now I cannot afford to return.
This is true, for so many of generations born often after 1964, from Coastal towns & Villages all around the coastline of the U.K. I think Cornwall is different economically, to most of those counties, due to its Industrial, Agricultural/Fishing/ Seagoing history, & the nature of its Terrain and Topography, nevermind it's Geology.
I remember a fella years ago who ran a homemade pie shop near me. He used to crimp his pasties using his false teeth ! 😮
i lived in st ives for 7 years! yes it is a tourist place! and its full of holiday homes!..in winter you dont see a soul on the streets just before christmas. then new years eve the place exsplodes with life..people come from all over the world its an amazing night!. i live in redruth now have been for 11 years. yes i agree the redruth high street aitn like it used to be..but 5 mins down the road i live in pool! it has everything that you need and its busy!..the house prices are no differant than up north almost the same..its only st ives thats exspencsive ..i live in a lovely place 5 mins from the centre of redruth..beast pleace iv ever lived..im from manchester oringinaly!..but yea i love corneall and it is what you make it!!
Do you know why it was that relatively new block of flats was abandoned? Is it one of those cases where the development company went bust leaving half-completed projects?
Retired Tories ? It's a uni-party now, yes the Tories eere abysmal, but they've been replaced by a party that no longer looks after the people they were set up to represent, the modern Labour Party despises ordinary working/unemployed people....and you will find that many of the people who still support labour, often middle class people who also look down on the working class etc., can afford to live around St Ives.
I am retired, live in SE Cornwall and never voted Tory or Labour these days. St.Ives ridiculous prices as elsewhere. Reform is the only choice now. Who ever runs the councils have allowed this.
Labour primarily represent white collar government employees.

@@waynehick Redruth has a bad name, I lived there for 2 years and didn't see anything bad happen, it's safe and the reputation it has bares no reflection on reality, people just like to talk the talk, say this place is bad, that place is bad and there's nothing to back it up. The biggest decline in Cornwall has been Truro..
When I little growing up in the area in the 1970s both Camborne and Redruth were prosperous places. In general it was quite friendly but it always had more than its fair share of "hard men" who were looking for a fight. I remember the towns being full of interesting little shops especially Redruth which had West End Stores which was a massive quality shop similar to something you would expect to see in London and there was Clotworthy's ( which dated back to the Victorian era ) a bespoke tailor. My parents had two shops one in each of these towns but they sold up the businesses in the early 80s and we moved to Hampshire. I am so glad we left after seeing this video.

This Video, is highly selective, and yes, it is true highlights Cornish Poverty with Cornish Communities inCurrent 2025 Times, which I believe, is a positive thing. But it also omits a very large amount of the Positive Sides of Both Redruth & Camborne, of which many Cornish people living here now, will tell you. Many Decisions taken by a Tory run Council, have, for years, been kicks in the economic teeth of both Redruth and Camborne, whose Industrial Hay Day are nigh on a Century and more behind them.
Up until recently, Redruth and Camborne had a Conservative M.P. George Justice, whose family has an agricultural background. Nobody has talked od the slow Death of the Dairy Farming Industry in Cornwall. And the reasons why. Let alone the out of town shopping developments.

Just like all other parts of the country, Cornwall has well-off areas and deprived areas. Had some good times down that way during my younger years. 🙂

I love Cornwall, my mum dad used to take us on holiday every year in the fifties and sixties. My dad’s sister lived there. They lived near Marazion. Such a shame it’s gone down hill
30 years ago St Ives was a good night out after the summer season ended. Used to go to a small club called Peggs and at 2am when it closed you'd get a pasty on the way out!

Guess what? I’m going to the UK in a month & cancelled the St Ives visit (in fact cancelled all of Cornwall) & so glad I did, it looks boring 😂😅🤣
I live in camborne and can trace my ancestry in cornwall back thousands of years. Our biggest enemy has been our local councils. They have intentionally paid for and encouraged and even advertised for troubled families and homeless to move to camborne for decades now. Even in prisons offering housing and support, The likes of Manchester and other northern councils paying for housing around camborne for troubled people they want to offload. Then over the past 5 to 10 years or so we have had a constant flow of migrants coming in. The first wave back in 2000s were polish they were fine. Then middle eastern and Arabic folk they took over lots of shops etc... now it's Africans. At all the bus stops at night you see them being dropped off in a steady stream. I used to do farm labour if I ever fell on hard times but that's no longer there for local people. You go around town and notice the intelligence of your average person has dropped markedly. But the buck stops for 99% of the areas decline with our rotten treasonous treacherous councils.
06:10 This individual was removed by the police from his pitch round the corner just a couple of weeks previously after being abusive to passersbys, many of whom have young kiddies & don’t really want to hear expletive laden language.
He’s now popped up in this doorway on Tregenna Hill apparently just wanting ‘company’.
Coincidentally he strategically places himself where it gets the most footfall from the station & car parks.
Local authority have reached out but he’s not interested. He ain’t silly & people fall for it, why go into a hostel when you can make a nice profit from tourists whilst sitting in sunny St Ives?
There several others around the town that appear at the start of summer then disappear when the tourists go home.

To be fair its usually wealthier people who can afford a second home in Cornwall. My brother has a holiday home in Aggie and he is a Tory. Years ago my grandparents moved down there when they retired and they were all Tories too. My Grandad was even friendly with Ted Heath.

@@Corkedit His father was a Royal Air Force fighter pilot, they weren't from the area. I think they moved his father transferred abroad when Mick was a couple of years old. Why would he pour his cash back into the homeless of Redruth! a town he probably barely remembers? I mean was born in Kent but I have only the vaguest recollections of living there because I left at a similar age when my parents moved to Cornwall, I certainly down feel any obligation to the people of Dartford just because I was born there.

I get what you're trying to say, but Wendall is doing good work here. He's showing the poorer side and exposing how the wealthy are pushing the rest out, it's a story all over.
He could make a lot more money spreading right wing conspiracy but here he is showing what's actually going on. It's not cheap for anyone to drive around the UK and do these videos, edit them, etc so he has to take what sponsorship he can get to get paid.

I grew up in Camborne/troon. It was wonderful and safe. It seems now that it’s a depressing, dangerous place to live and that makes me sad. I still have so many family members there. My dad worked in Crofty tin mine. And my brothers worked at Holmans
It's not dangerous in Camborne, honestly no idea what that woman was on about saying that "knife crime is pretty bad" here. Complete nonsense. There are certainly lots of drunks and druggies here though due to the wonderful homeless "pods" that have been dumped within local car parks.

As a younger person in Cornwall I understand and appreciate the positive spin but I also think real issues sometimes need to be confronted rather than brushed off with outsider's ideas for positive spins on the perception of it, I think if being poor was truly a choice then none of my friends would be worrying about how they are ever going to manage working to live and experiencing luxuries OR necessities that most or many people in the UK have such as food, electricity and transport. If you want to achieve something big and have a dream for your life then it may be difficult to achieve that and you are disadvantaged to others and that sadly isn't a choice

Great video Wendall. I live in St Agnes, 8 miles fro Redruth. I go to Redruth regularly, in preference to Truro. There are a lot of small independent shops. Pity you didn't go to the record shop. That's really good. Having said that, it does have a bit of a tumbleweed feel to it. Hopefully Redruth will rise again 🤞

Redruth and Camborne are not at fault for this. There are decent towns and being “poor” doesn’t matter as there’s train and bus routes to stunning beaches, which most “poor” places don’t have. Yes we’re not like St ives but in Redruth (where i grew up) there’s no tourism which makes the business less active however we have parking spots to get the train to St ives. In places like Redruth and Camborne in under 40 minutes you could get to both sides of the coast (Portreath and Falmouth) which other places don’t have. I’m 16 and so far i’ve had 3 part time jobs in redruth and loads of people i know have jobs in the local area which is good as there is opportunity of us. Personally i think a place like Penzance is worse than Redruth and Camborne as it is the end of the train route. Redruth and Camborne have dead towns however cycling and walking distance to beaches, 10 minute train to a city, jobs for teens and colleges, schools and a uni nearby. I agree it has gone down but it’s not bad as there is access to loads.
Im Cornish born and bred, from the Truro area. Justvto correct the chap in st ives - this has nothing to do with brexit! Redruth, Camborne, pool, st. Austell and Bodmin have always been known as the poorer areas for as long as ive been alive (38 years). Hence their nicknames - redrough, st. Awful and Dogbin to name a few. Some lovely folks in these towns but unfortunately a lot of people on benefits who dont want to work and happy to live off the state, they teach their children to do the same and ao it goes on. If you work hard in Cornwall you can do very well, trades are booming etc. I dont have any family or friends who rely on tourism. Its just a normal place that gets busy in the summer. The tourists actually negatively impact a lot of businesses and cause problems with water supply and waste left everywhere for locals to clean up - costing us money. Its a misconception that we rely on tourism. Just go to school and work hard, me and my family do absolutely fine because we all worked hard which im sure is the case in most places
I moved to Cornwall a few years ago. Biggest mistake of my life! My son and ex still live in looe, my son is gonna struggle with drugs massively. It's amazing as a holiday destination, but for the working class to live I'd suggest staying very clear

Those flats you start in front of on Porthmeor Beach, we used to go there year after year from Yorkshire on holiday, after a few years, my parents had the chance to buy one of them for 19k, which back then was a lot of money admittedly, I've just checked now, and it's just short of a million, one of the Barnaloft flats for reference.
Great memories though.
They never bought one, it was a dream just out of their reach.

I'm highly suspicious of Kurdish people that choose to live in Britian. This is because i lived in central Turkey for 3 years and visited several other areas as well. Most of the people i met we wonderful but what i constantly experianced from kurdish people was xenophobia, they have some historical grievances against the british it seems because the moment they discovered I'm British they'd start spitting or shouting abuse, up to that point i think they assumed i was russian and they were cool. I dont mean it was the occasional insident, i mean it was a feature of everywhere i went not a bug. So why would any of them want to live here is what i wonder?
Their human rights are respected here but not in Turkey.

Born and raised in Cornwall. Moved away and whenever I visit which I try to do at least once a year I’m always shocked as to how much certain areas have worsened over the years. Much of the problem is all down to these 2nd 3rd fourth homes bought out by wealthy Londoners which simply prices out all the locals.
Out of interest would you ever want to go back there? I moved away a long time ago. Still have an affection for the county but there is no way I would want to ever live there again.
I live in Four Lanes near Redruth & Camborne & Pool. I used to live in Derbyshire, and Hampshire before that. In July I went to Scotland and stopped off at Chesterfield to see old friends. If you want to see run down and poverty stricken, some of the towns around up there were far worse than Camborne from what I could see. The roads were worse too. Ironically they were all mining places as well, and other heavy industries, all gone now. We do have a second home problem in Cornwall and a massive drugs problem. Yes, there is a lot of poverty but if you’re going to be poor at least living in a place with so much natural beauty helps. There is a lot of community spirit too and people fighting for positive change. But you are right, there is too much discrepancy between those multi million pound houses and the average person in the centre of Cornwall. It’s tough and it looks like with Starmer’s latest speech it’s about to get way way tougher on all of us.

Thank you for sharing. I have never visited Redruth or Camborne, just passed by train. It is good to know how it is. I remember I visited St. Ives in January last year. It was so quiet, and dark in the evenings, and so many shops and restaurants were closed. I actually enjoyed it as a tourist. But I definitely understand the problems with the empty houses in the winter as they are second homes. It ruins the society. And no-one can afford to buy a house. There are some places in Norway which also suffer from this.
Why not visit them to see how they are. I can't understand why a very selectively shot and edited video on a digital social media platform can convince viewers that this is a Reality as opposed to an Opinion. If you go past by train, why not stop of on a Cornish Day Explorer Ticket, next time you get an opportunity. 🤗👍
Doing this would also obvs contribute to the Redruth and Camborne economies. Everyone seems to visit the same old places when they come to Cornwall.

But we are normally walking along the South West Coast Path during a couple of weeks in the summer holidays, and have limited time to visit other places than those along the path. But at least we stay at small B&Bs and small hotels and spend our money at many smaller places/villages and have a rest day here and there to explore a bit in those areas. We might some time revisit the North coast to walk in Tehidy woods and visit Camborne/Redruth 😄

Used to go on holiday every year as my nan lived in padstow, upon her death there we sold her house, that house is now worth 1.4 million because it is now so commercial and rick stein owns alot in Padstow, i would love to live permantly but cannot afford anything now, all or most are second hand owners and younsters are having to move out because affordability does not allow them to stay. Lived Penzance back 20 years ago, was a fab place to live now its a ghost town just like St Austell and Camborne. The Eden Project has helped the area.
It is lovely to see the way locals are trying to bring life back into these places.
I live on a Thai island now but there’s only one other place I could stay.. Penzance!

The Mine at South Crofty has recently reopened. I was born in Deadruff and Joined the Forces along with a lot of my mates to GTFO, live down West now, Redruth Nightlife in the 90s was Wild and wonderful.

Yes Wendall!! so Happy for a new Vid. St Ives is an interesting place, for starters there is also a St Ives near Cambridge which is where I grew up. But this St Ives supplied a job where I used to work with all the front covers for DVD manufacturing, they had a big niche printing business and also the people I worked with in that industry agreed they were the best people to work with ;)

If you want to see the barber epidemic go to the Oxford rd in reading about 40 hair a d beauty related businesses that surprisingly stay open???? Oh and it's a proper deprived area.
I couldn't park in St. Ives , so had to drive to St. Erth and get the train in.
I would always suggest this method. Parking in St Ives in peak season is a nightmare. Park at St Erth train station, catch the train and sit back as you enjoy one of the most scenic rail journeys in this country. When you arrive in St Ives it's literally just a few minutes walk into the main town. As a local I much prefer to do this than stress about chasing none existent parking spaces.

I lived in Cornwall (St Ives) for 6 months, lovely in summer, very bleak in winter, I applied for the Tesco in St.ives and was told they only employ " local people" , this was a repeating issue when applying for jobs, couldn't wait to go back to South East. Odd , bigoted bunch. Really hope it would break away from the UK so it would bankrupt itself, with an attitude like that.

I had a nice holiday in Cornwall years ago. Loved it. No idea where i stayed. Just like a lot of places, there are problems.
Before leaving the EU, Cornwall qualified for substantial grants because of this situation and part of the outcome was a large IT cabling programme which was carried out.
Lived in Cornwall in the 90s and Redruth Bodmin etc were poor and rough then so stop pretending it’s because of Brexit

In Cornwall, there is loads of fruit and vegetables that are grown. These are pick/harvested by migrant workers.
Simon Reeves covered this in go's BBC documentary.
What he didn't explore was, why don't locals who are jobless take some of these jobs?
