    Thanks for doing this interview. I liked hearing you two talk about your early gaming memories. Both of you have a passion for video games that shines through here.

    Nothing's better than listening to people have a discussion about something they're both passionate about. Loving this interview! :)

    I enjoyed this very much. Great job on the interview, you interject and ask questions just at the right times and let Mike speak at length. Very interesting hearing about their RUclips beginnings, I was there watching when it was unfolding and I got a lot of memories coming back from those times. Thanks for the video.

    I'm similar to Mike in that my first arcade exposure was back during the Pac Man, Space Invaders, Tempest era. An absolutely magical time. We also had an Atari 2600 and the whole family would play that thing for hours. I remember my dad getting so pissed off at Pac Man for the 2600 that he put the cartridge in the oven and literally cooked it! With all that said, I didn't become a gaming fanatic until the NES came out, and that late '80s time frame had some of my favorite arcade machines too. One in particular was Shinobi in 1987. I played it for months and got good enough to complete it on one credit. Good times!

      @riggel8804 7 лет назад

      Damn dude, I was wondering if anyone could beat Shinobi on one credit. Respect. I recently tried to play through it with emulation and couldn't even beat it with infininte coins. I gave up but I really liked the game. It was way ahead of other games that came out at that time and still plays well today. I can see how it's beatable with practice. There isn't much randomness to it. Did you beat on a original arcade cab?

    • @RedArremer
      @RedArremer 7 лет назад

      Yeah all we had back then was the original cab. ;-) Hindsight I imagine the lag-free environment made the timing on it much easier than people trying to play it on an emulator. I will say the game was all about procedure and pattern memorization. Every spawn of every enemy ninja was always based on the same triggers, so it just became a thing of piecing together a complete pattern run. The only two spots in the game that could be randomly difficult for me were the mechanical face boss (because of having to rapid fire all the rotating statues) and of course the final boss could sometimes break the pattern I had down for him, but that was rare.

    • @riggel8804
      @riggel8804 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, when I got back into gaming i did so on a flat screen with emulators and a wireless controller-lag was terrible! Now I game primarilly with original hardware and a crt. I was worried that games would be harder, when I made the switch, because I wouldn't be able to use save states to practice. But games are noticiblley easier without the lag. Unfortunately I have no way to play old arcade games without an emulator so I end up playing them with an RPi. I still use a crt and wired controllers so the lag isn't terrible (1 to 2 frames best I can tell)...My fifteen year old son DESPISES Shinobi. He says the graphics are so bad I might as well play with a potatoe. Which is funny to me because I think the graphics are awesome, it's a generational thing....The difficulty level of pattern recognition in Shinobi reminds of Battletoads for NES. You ever beat that one?

    Mike gets so hyped about games that it's contagious. The episode of James and Mike Monday's were Mike beat Mike Tyson's punch is what motavated me to get back into gaming. When he beat Tyson he jumped around the room and tackled a Mike Tyson card board cut out. When I saw that I thought, "damn I want to be like that again"....was really cool to hear Mike talk about how he is getting used to his pvm. Also really like hearing him talk about his project with Mario Paint. I remember when that came out Mike was asking viewers what cartoon he should animate next. Sounds like he has had second thoughts. Too bad, that Ninja Turtles animation was mind blowing.

    "If somebody asked me right now, I could beat Ninja Gaiden 3". It's amazing to me that my first reaction was "when is that ever going to happen?". Then I quickly realized that I probably have 3 or 4 obsessions that are exactly the same. Some kind of deep seated, lizard brain, "always be prepared" / survival instinct that got latched onto something trivial that will probably never come up.
    Such a strange phenomenon.

    A lot of people in their early 30s right now played atari as their first system. I mean, I was born the year the NES came out, but no one I knew had one for quite a while, so I played atari until my friend got an NES and then my cousin got one. My pops was against video games so we never had one at the house until I just bought one, this was the 64. I think it's one of the reasons I fell in love with games. I was only allowed to play them sparingly, I didn't have an NES or SNES at home, they were like this awesome joyous thing that I could only get a taste of. So when I finally got old enough that my dad couldn't really tell me not to buy a console I was just glued to that shit. Of course we had a PC at the house since I was around 7-8 and somehow we got some MS-DOS games on 5in floppies, breakout, duke nukem, Zork, so it's not like I had nothing at home. But that was in my dads room, so we could not play it as much as we wanted, mostly when he was working late.

    @00:29:09 - Disable the crouch in action. I hadn't thought about this, but now that you mention it, I can say I crouched by mistake aswell plenty of times in the heat of battle.

    My own late, local roller rink had an arcade off in the back. Pre-2d fighter era/late 80s is probably my fav for the nostalgia. Outrun, Operation Wolf, Contra, Buster Bros, Afterburner, Final Fight, TMNT, The Simpsons, WWF Wrestlefest, Golden Axe etc. Also the pinball machines like Funhouse, Simpsons, Terminator 2...wew lad.

    Is RetroRGB an American? I've NEVER heard an American who grew up with the N-E-S call it the Ness. (I didn't watch the full video but might brings it up too lol)

    I used to have an hd tv and ran it through a rgb splitter or whatever a switch box and to my super nes and no lag, also had a genesis on the same box, no lag, I've never had any problem with lag on any system I've ever had. I dunno if it happens more on the coax or rf systems but I dunno.

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  7 лет назад +1

      I guarantee the problem was there, you just didn't perceive it. You can test with a CRT and a cellphone camera.

  • @darkfoxmccloude8137

    Well, the problem with BOTW are not the complex controls - they are especially great in combat and they stay true to its roots in 3D Zelda origin - OOT so they feel very Zelda like for me.
    The problem with BOTW is that they did many things right in the overworld BUT the most important Zelda aspects - the unique dungeons (and a meaningful storyline) are missing. As you progress through the game everything feels very copy-paste with little meaning for me. Zelda lives for me in this oscillating difference between dungeon and overworld gameplay which is missing in BOTW.

    Lol 😂 @1:22:51 Sounds like Mike is pretty salty about those comments. 😏 In Mike's 2016 setup video, my main problem was that he showed off his framemeister but only had composite hooked up to it. Why spend around $400+ on an x-rgb mini if you're only planning on using composite?? There's much cheaper solutions for AV to HDMI converters. Not to mention he gets a TON of things wrong in his part 2 video & RGB upgrade video. Like saying that PS2 can't do RGB or that the NES can do RGB. Yes, the NES can, only through modification, not natively. Ugh and to hear him say "RGB, and SCART." SCART is the connector end of the cable. RGB is the video signal. Semantics, I know. But it's a pet peeve. There's always talk about how expensive making the upgrade to RGB is. Yes, it's true, it can get out of control. Video gaming in itself is a pretty expensive hobby though. But thanks to HDRetrovision and their cables, I believe people can make that upgrade now for those who are on a budget. Even though I've seen people complain about the price of their cables. Guess $53 is too steep for some people..
