The hardest part about watching Pensado's Place is finishing an episode! I can't seem to finish in one sitting without running off and mixing because of the ideas you share. Thank you so much Dave, Herb and co.

'man this lady can sing' , I love how he really feels the music he mixes.
Hey i just wanted to say thank you so much for doing these Mr Pensado you are such a blessing and so humble, you are a true inspiration God Bless you !
Thank you so much guys, it means so much to me personally to be able to share in your knowledge and philosophy of mixing and music in general. I hope to be able to pass on the love to others too.
It’s the third year of me watching this and understanding. Funny how with every passing year’s experience there is a better understanding to absorb for me personally. Now these techniques make more sense in terms of feel as opposed to just the technicalities of it. I am now getting more capable of getting the emotional impact of these reverb/ delay techniques. Thank you for such valuable information. Dave is a legend. Although I am a music producer, you have inspired me enough to look at my production in terms of the mixing result of it. Thank you truly.

Dave, I get inspired every time I watch your videos. Thank you for sharing your hard-earned skills, and for sharing your excitement about the artistry.
dont be afraid to add effects to your effects!
That treated vocal sounded unbelievable, amazing, Dave is a true master!! Loved the sound of the Bricasti too!
Jill Scott "relates ALOT to my sensibilities and my tastes!" What a privilege to be entrusted with her voice.
Thank you Dave for giving such a great starting point!
I don’t know how amazing he is for sharing his knowledge. Thank you so much for teaching all these years.
One of the best Episodes Ever! I can be watching 2 days of ITL with Dave easily!!
grandee!
Please so more of these in depth tutorials! So useful! I´ll watch them any day and I´m sure 90 % of the guys here will! Thanks Dave =)
That half an hour flew by... Love listening to this man, makes me feel like everything's gonna be a-o-kay
Thank you Dave! You are such a great inspiration, so good in your craft, and so humble! You really help a lot!
Dave you are so awesome for sharing your knowledge with aspiring artists like me. Thank you sincerely.
Great ITL, thanks for taking the time to go in depth Dave!
Thank you SO MUCH Dave! Very helpful tips for my new album. I was looking to tweak my vocal reverb and you hit the nail right on the head.
Much respect Big Pen! I clicked on the pre video ad to show some love! I haven't gone to the grocery store to buy some Tillamook medium cheddar cheese yet, because i'm going to watch the video first! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge!
great episode! thank you! love the longer in-depth ITL
Such a sweet talk at the end. Thanks for all the knowledge sharing. Helped me pick up a lot!
This video captured my attention intently. IMHO I’ve heard so many songs overuse reverb and delay. Dave knows where and how to set the vocal focus in relation to the song. I’ve repeatedly noticed how he often uses multiple plugins, yet each offering minor adjustments. All this makes me smile with him when he smiles at his own work saying, “That’s pretty good!” 😊
Hey Dave & Herb! Sometimes i come home from a long day at work and want to relax. But if i watch your show on my lunch break, I come home and make Music! Thanks for doing what you do!
I Love You Dude
Thank you for that great reverb tutorial, Dave!
Great storehouse of knowledge in these videos! Thanks guys.
AWESOME!!! Thank you! Great stuff Thanks Dave!
Wow what great insights on reverb. Thanks so much Dave! You’re the man!!!!!
Genius! So fun to watch Pensado on action.
Ooh this was so good! Thanks Dave!
Dave, this is really good information. So helpful to gain an understanding of how to use these tools to place things in the mix. I've literally watched this 5 times already. Every time, I pick up something new!
Just thank you dave 🙏
Thank you! Great stuff. Love you Dave!
Great video Dave. Keep up the good work!
I appreciate the knowledge, I never thought to put a gated reverb on a vocal.
Love you man! Thanx for sharring so much with us ,your a god send, life saver.
AWESOME episode - I like the longer ITL more info ....thanks
You can watch the video at 1.25 speed.
XD
1.75
i was confused why the reverb sounds funny than i realized i read your comment and speed up the video.I have to watch it again in normal speed now.so Screw u
Great video as always. Learning a lot from you Dave and friends!
-Kal M
"they make about a million plugins and they are about a nickel a piece" 🤣🤣 Dave is so funny
i hope these in depth videos become more of a regular thing. awesome stuff. i never thought of using a gated reverb and a chamber on the same vocal. i'll try it out
Great stuff Dave! Thanks
These guys are Godsends!!
Great insights Dave! The idea of choosing a space because of its relevance to the music, like big and small venue, was very inspiring for me, sometimes one loses perspective and just starts adding fx for no reason XD
Also the drum samples tutorial is pure gold!
Great to have these guys giving back to the community.. Also check out Michael White (former lecturer at SAE (9 yrs)) his youtube vids are masterclasses.. Big up Mr Pensado
12:40 "If i say sometimes one more time....." 2 seconds later "He likes to do that sometimes" xD
fabulous. lots of info and a lot to think about.
I learn alot from you guys! Respect.
GREAT ITL! Really good episode!!! THX
Who gives DP a thumbs down? Seriously? You must be mega talented and earning shit loads of wonga. And even then I would have nothing but deep respect for this man. Good luck to you!
That's great Dave, thanks for that.
the master at work
Awesome ITL! Really helpful video! :)
Dude that was really informative as I'm a musician and learning Logic, plug ins and lots other recording techniques and tools. I have two Octavias 300's and set them up to my mixer and into an interface and whoa what a sound but knew there's waaaay more to learn. Thanks.
Thanks for being awesome Dave. I think I'm gonna buy the BIG SKY REVERB.
Thank you Dave!
Thank you Mr. Pensado
Really good episode!!!
When you said that line about thinking it was a hallway but it's a concert hall I almost threw my computer out the window - I just learned that when you said it
i can't thank you enough for this.
You are the most awesome man ever.
Hey man, good to see ya again...and that's a nice new look for ya.
Dig the hair cut too...So, let's get to work...
great episode! thx
Thank you Dave, you are a legend!!! Could you please make one on how to mix vocal overdubs? I would be forever grateful!
It's really impressive that the oldest people have the most technical skills in music production / mastering / EQing. Those people are the ones who are responsible for the godly sounding things you hear in the radio.
Wow, learned a ton thanks!!!
LEGEND
super tutorial ...thanks
This is really good and covers some interesting principles. Please can you look into remembering to look into doing an episode on 'Chorus' and vocals? Or recording gain structure?
fantastic
Thanks dave
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 14:45 Dave's face!!!!!! FUNNYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!! LOOOOOL
This is a great video tutorial. Very insightful.
As an artist it's hard to know when you are done polishing your creation. When do you have the right vocal take? When are you done with the production and arrangement? When are you done mixing? When in reality there's ALWAYS room for improvement. Answer: 15:35
whats the reverb hes using on his desk ?
Really helpful! Vocal spaces and reverbs can be pretty difficult sometimes... ;)
wish i had Dave as a professor back in college.
After this lesson I know how to use predelay as musician. Thanks Dave!)
NICE Thanks Man Dave are you using the New Mac Pro your using a lot of Plugins on one Vocal that is a lot of processing going on i am on a older Mac Pro i don't think i can get away with using that many plugins ( YOU SHOULD DO A ITL ON YOU COMPUTER AND PROCESSING NEEDED AND STUFF LIKE THAT THAT WOULD BE COOL )
frank rogers You shouldn't have too much of a problem with that amount of processing on a single vocal if you increase your playback engine buffer to 1024 samples while mixing. Dave also uses UAD plugins, which utilizes an external DSP. Even with that much info, I'd love to see how much external DSP he uses.
frank rogers I try to run the buffer as high as possible when bouncing online, as this tends to reduce the chance of error during bounce. Offline bounce doesn't care about the buffer setting, because it renders the audio only as fast as your system will allow. In fact, the only time I run a low buffer is during tracking. It's only then that you can hear any latency, because you have a point of reference to work from (the sound of the instrument you are recording vs. the sound coming out of your speakers).
awesome
what is that piece of hardware you are dialing to affect the reverb pre-delay? And yes, more info on the immediate hardware. Computers, Pcie cards, accelerators, monitor control, etc. Thanks Dave!
Great Episode!
Really helpful tips in how to treat vocals, thanks Dave!
lookin good dave. nice hair cut
im lovin your videos, im so glad i cam across them. Im wondering if delays and verbs on vocals "should" be mono or stereo? Thanks!
Hey guys question! I know Dave goes in and out of Protools for some parts of his mixing, the 500 series or outboard effects... what converters does Dave have there at his spot? Is he just using Avid?
it is impossible not to listen to you but I will use the imagination greetings from Argentina
Not sure I follow what you were talking about with the gated reverb at the end there. Could you do a video showing how this is done? It sounds interesting, but I can't figure it out...
So you are saying to add multiple reverbs to a vocal through different aux tracks ?
where he said that? i want to see it
timeless information dude...
JUST LISTEN...
BEFORE: 14:42 AFTER 37:56 (Almost) OR 39:28 (FINAL with SLAP and INSTRUMENTS)
awesome thanks
You're welcome!
At 15:59, when you bring up the sidechain, are you just using that as a straight EQ, or is that frequency being keyed by something?
Forever watching pensados place and trying to take some tips and use them in ableton.
Where do I sign up for the 2-day reverb seminar?
LOL! I catch myself trying to click and drag things on the screen while I'm watching these vids. I totally just did it @15:53 so I could see the complete plug and settings.
Believe it or not I've never used the C1. I'll have to check it out. I usually use the Rcomp....L2...1176....UAD Tubetechs...have recently looked at the C4. But my recent fave to manhandle unwildly sounds is the DBX160. Kind of a "run of the mill" compressor with not a ton of color that can really put things in line. Sounds like live sound kinda thing. Not real musical but totally has it's place.
I've heard people say they can make a distressor sound like anything they want though so that's also on my list to check out. I'm all in the box at this point so its plugs galore.
By the way...really dig the Klanghelm Mjuc you recommended. Great plug and it's CHEAP. Love cranking the "drive" knob on that baby...but.....you have to use it with something else to really dial things in. But the sound is there for sure. Anyway..love your vids Dave. The fact that this is 5 years old and I'm still here watching says something.
dave heres a good question? The vocal lick in this song is great but reminds me of a part from a movie soundtrack? Do you know what that movie is? Its killing me to remember this movie?
Love your channel !!! Great!!! Keep it coming!!!
Herbs shirt is fire
Y'all gotta get Ali on an episode after the new kendrick album. I would love that
can he have a 500 series rack tour? is that a new elysia compressor dave? or the nvelope or xfilter? :D
i fuk with his honesty
