    I really agree. I've recently started playing in stacks and noticed a visible difference in match quality, and turned out to have a better time and better winrate on my own. I like that SoloQ allows you to learn how to adapt to a variety of situations and scenarios. I'd add that mindset and learning curve that is different for everyone can be another con to stacking. If you improve faster than your friends, have different goals, or vice versa it can quickly become frustrating.

    The bit about sharing the same goals and ambitions is surprisingly tricky. It’s easy to think that everyone is on the same page and wants to improve, but under the pressures of ranked matches, differences in commitment and improvement mindset will reveal themselves, and often in a socially painful way. It can be especially bad if you’re playing with IRL friends, because you have reasons for wanting to play together that go beyond a shared desire and commitment to improve. Friends might agree to play comp when they don’t actually want to, because the alternative is not getting to play with the group. The group will also have to deal with the possibility (inevitability, usually) of different improvement rates, which again can be socially painful. Having a duo that you met specifically to play competitive OW is one thing-it’s not such a big deal to just stop when the arrangement is no longer beneficial. It’s much harder when the relationship has more to it.
    Also, larger groups will have more shared weaknesses that will come up again and again, which again is especially true in a group of IRL friends who may have overlapping or non-complementary hero pools. In solo queue, you’ll occasionally get those matches where no one plays a hero who can deal well with a specific enemy threat, and it sucks, but you just GG go next. In a group, you will run into that same problem over and over again, and it will put a lot of stress on the group’s ability to problem-solve in a way that makes everyone feel safe and respected. Sometimes the desire not to hurt anyone’s feelings means that those problems are always collectively externalized, blamed on the non-group teammates, which breeds feelings of helplessness and maybe also resentment, as members of the group feel unable to surface ideas that involve group members changing how they play.
    In conclusion, playing in a group brings with it the possibility of all kinds of complicating social factors that persist from game to game. The bigger the group, the more complex those problems can get. And, the more non-OW reasons the group has to play together, the more unsuitable it will be for serious improvement-oriented ranked play.

    Been trying to explain to people (and hopefully Blizzard knows) that stacks are a major issue in OW2.
    Every single match of mine that is roll or be rolled has at least a duo on each team. The more people stacked the more insane the match is and I have tested it with a duo as well. Duo Q in OW2 is really bad.

      @antonioscendrategattico2302 2 года назад +4

      It could be possible to simply ban stacks in ranked entirely. But I don't think it will be well received. I admit a LOT of my issues in ranked are probably also due to that since whenever I go in soloq I tend to end up rolling because I'm still getting back to my actual rank.
      It's just that soloq feels like a lonely and kinda miserable experience. The draw of Overwatch for me is the teamplay, the strategizing. Soloq is just a test of your own individual skills and the other people might as well be a statistical average. It's... not particularly fun.

    afaik the matchmaking change for matching people per role per rank is not implemented yet. the game still matches just on team averages.
    the per role matching is coming in "next months"

    I had an experience recently where I was playing against a 5 stack for 4 games in a row. I was dominating both of the dps players and their tank seemed pretty braindead but the supports were literally flanking my team and killing the backline over and over. I checked their profiles and they were both masters dps players but their support rank was like mid plat. I had never been out dueled by a mercy player it was a bizarre game lol. I did manage to win one of the games and it was pretty satisfying. I only solo que so not sure why I got the same 5 stack over and over, might have been cause it was past midnight.

    Whenever i play comp with friends its usually extremly frustrating and puts immense pressure in me, even if we win, so much so that i cant even play 3 in a row, i've actually played very little solo queue dps, my main role, and im plat 2, really grinding to diamond.
    I think i'll start solo queing.

    Is the sr matching between individual players something they plan to do or something they're doing now? Sounded to me like it is something they plan to add later

    • @ioStux

      They're doing a slow roll out of it now, with a full rollout most likely coming for S3 :) The blog post is from last year.

    • @ClaraBennett
      @ClaraBennett 2 года назад +1

      Given that the per-role queue times have evened out considerably this season, I think they’re doing it now. Doing the paired SR-matching probably allows them to loosen the skill range constraints for the lobby a bit faster when it’s taking a while to make a match.

    There is always the question why grouping with a higher ranked teammate and fighting higher ranked enemies isn't training better mechanics, since basically they punish more mistakes, these mistakes would also be mistakes on a lower elo. Like peek an higher elo ashe as kiriko and domed. Well learn to 1vs1 better, why not? Better cover, better accuracy, better movement etc. I mean these skills will be relevant once i've climbed there anyway.

    • @barursigursson7855
      @barursigursson7855 2 года назад +2

      Hes talking about the consistency. One game you can easily dominate the other dps and then another game you get shit on.
      That isn't the consistency you need to improve.
      But I can agree that putting yourself against harder opponents should be better to learn from your mistakes.

    • @vladgaedel8521
      @vladgaedel8521 2 года назад

      @@barursigursson7855 yes but no, i would also argue that higher level players will punish you for mistakes more consistently while also doing less "illegal" plays where they get value where they shouldn't

    • @ioStux
      @ioStux  2 года назад +4

      So the main issue as the other commenter said is the lack of consistency in your games, unless you have a dedicated stack of high ranked players who for some reason want to intentionally play all their games with a player who is much lower rated. The constant switching between playing "at your rank" and playing "at a different" rank can make it super difficult to correctly interpret the effect that playstyle changes have on the outcome of your games :(

    you're spot on, here. After climbing the ranks to gold 1, using nothing but solo, I found a good group of people and started grouping up. After 10 total wins, my rank dropped to gold 3.... Why? I was dying more, and not thinking through my actions. I wanted us all to win so badly, I made poor decisions.

    I agree. I appreciate my friends, but for the most part, I prefer SoloQ 90% of the time in any competitive game I play.
    But to have a dedicated solo queue system for ranked would be detrimental to some players because of the heroes that they play. Pharah in particular comes to mind. Genji, Echo, and Ashe too, although all to a lesser extent than Pharah.

    So I started solo queuing and I went from silver 1 to silver 5 in one day. I don't see how this is good for you. On console you legit get total sponges as team mates guys that stand still when shooting don't use there miss for actual call outs. I'm not the best play obviously but I have been diamond in apex legends I feel like this game needs the team to be %100 working together for you to actually get anywhere. Maybe solo queue in higher ranks might work since you would assume that people actually play better. Truthly don't solo queue in low ranks and dont expect to be able to carry the whole team.

    • @ceticobr

      One day is probably not enough time to draw any conclusions, but I do believe the rank you end up with after playing solo for a long time is your real rank.

    Answer: No

  • @LogicalKip
    @LogicalKip 2 года назад +2

    Yeah no sorry. I don't care about ratings or "distraction". I want teammates who know ulting 1v5 with 25HP is bad. I want teammates who won't walk 1 by 1 like lemmings into a full team while they could wait 4.5 seconds and make it a proper regroup instead. And I won't get that with soloqueue until I reach masters or something.
    I also WILL find stacks on the other side (you can check ingame), who know those things and have good mechanics, whether I soloqueue or not. Like every game. It has predictive powers : Before the game starts, check the enemy team. They will likely have 2-3 people, in a stack, with the same icon, most of them with endorsement 1. At the end of the game, check who were the best players. It will be them. Always.

    • @ceticobr
      @ceticobr Год назад

      My experience has been exactly the opposite of that. I can always predict who is going to suck by checking who is a group.

    I will tell you this: OW2 is full of three and four stacks of Zoomers that will report (and bully) over anything. Make even a purely neutral observation or suggestion expect to get an instant attitude and more than likely multiple reports. They need to limit reports by stacks to only one per stack counted. Solo queue is hell in OW2.

      This was also bad in OW1. I left comp because stacks on my own team were frequently toxic and also prioritized stack mates over randoms, and as a main tank, being frequently abandoned felt miserable because they would drop everything to support a stack member.
