My favorite AA game from recent years is Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
So many AA budget games are just too odd for my taste. But Kena is a fantastic game that genuinely feels like AAA quality from a mid-budget project. I hope the studio behind Kena (Ember Lab) continues to be funded and produce games at the quality level that Kena offers.

It's just budget. AA used to be called B - but now it isn't... just because it isn't. "Indie" used to mean self-published, but that's been a bit crazy ever since Steam made it so easy to self-publish and since some developers got super-rich (Baldur's gate 3 is AAA and Indie under that definition). So, I guess it's all getting down to budget now.

The aging mechanic in Sifu was done in a VR title Chronos years before. It is at least a spiritual prequel to Remnant from the Ashes. It came out 2019.
Some believe it explains why Ford is immortal, believing he to be the hero in Chronos. In that game each time you die you age. Every 10 years and you get a new skill/power. At age 80 you become immortal. Making it so you can beat the game, but you get the worst ending.

A game I played recently that I consider to be a double A that was great, Hard Space Shipbreaker. It's bascially a game where you slowly break down spaceships piece by piece and it's a very zen experince, you can put on a podcast while playing the game and kinda relax, there are some dangers and hazards you have to look out for that could cause the ship to explode while you're breaking it down, but it's mostly a very chill experince. The story revolves around a crew of shipbreakers, one of whom wants to unionize because every shipbreaker including you owes a massive trillion dollar debt to the company you work for, once the company the shipbreakers work for find out about the union they send in a guy to give everyone a hard time. The story is told mainly in audio dialouge, but I had a great time with it on game pass, I actaully considered buying it and might still do so since I only have 2 achievements left for 1000.

AA games are some of the most interesting because they often seem and the perfect equilibrium between having budget to do something huge, but at the same time not having neaerly high enough stakes so that they can try out wild ideas withotu too much risks like indie teams do.
That leads to some absolute gems, event if the end product isn't necessarily the most amazing games. Still memorable ones.

@@michaelb2westgaedu I would say yes. I personally don't enjoy souls games much and only played through the original/first Demon's Souls and I still had a blast playing through Remnant 1 & 2 solo, even on the highest difficulties. Although these games do get better when playing with friends or even random people.
Even though the souls-like tag is very fitting for Remnant, you can just look at it as a slower paced third person action/shooter game that rewards strategy and preparation more than usual in the genre.
Highly recommended games if you like action games with a challenge.
