It was fairly rated when it came out. It was a gigantic technical mess, literally unplayable for most people. It didn't help that the director was very hostile towards any criticism no matter how small or justified. Over the years they've fixed most of the technical issues, but unfortunately there is no way Sony will ever greenlight a sequel as long as it's Bend Studio making it, after the PR disaster that it was plus the fact that the developer was completely unable to stay even remotely inside the allotted budget. All Sony got from that game was a big financial loss and some very bad PR.

Days Gone was one of the greatest gaming experiences Ive ever had! I played it for the 1st time in May 2023 & spent 180hrs in it's beautiful world...I would give anything to experience it again for the 1st time!
Another thing that I loved about Days Gone is that nearly every single structure was enterable. They didn't just put up boxes that served as set dressing... And it wasn't procedurally generated identical interiors... Obviously there were some reused assets, but things would be laid out uniquely and appropriately. It was a very underrated part of the map design.
For Division 2, someone I know from DC could navigate without the map when we started playing from memory of living there. Even a lot of the stores were the division world equivalents of the real world versions. Including randomly running accross their favourite food shop and their parents' work. I did see a video explaining how Massive built the world. They apparently went to Chernobyl to get ambient sounds of an uninhabited and crumbing city. The nyc dlc did a great job at the map aswell. And the division 1 world even though it eventually was a bit empty in the endgame aside from the peirs it was awesome during survival.
Hey Jake! Thanks for always highlighting how Mad Max is just a super fun time! Just finished first playthrough of New Vegas, I think around 250 hours, and now I'm about to jump into the Tale of Two Wastelands mod. In order to control the chopper properly I needed 1 hand on the wasd keys, 1 hand on the number pad, and 1 hand on the mouse. Rage 2 is the prime example of it not being the size of your open world, but how you use it. The gunplay is amazing, but the world is way too big and pretty empty. If it was condensed to a fraction of the size, and had more urban "dungeons" (like making the Dead City from the first open), it would have been so much better.

Days Gone at 2 was cool, but with a video title like this, I'm surprised there was no mention or showing of the hordes??? If that's not an iconic unforgettable experience for this game then idk what is...
So many great games on this list. Just Cause 3 is super fun, but also Days Gone, RDR2, GTA5, The Division 1+2, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Far Cry 5 etc. Can’t wait for GTA6, but Days Gone 2 would be incredible as well.

I actually passed on Days Gone because it honestly just looked like another zombie shooter. Then someone told me that Days Gone is to zombie shooters as Sleeping Dogs is to GTA-type shooters. Basically two games released in a time when those types of games were a dime a dozen and were sort of lost in the shuffle. As a big Sleeping Dogs fan, I checked out Days Gone and totally understood the comparison. Not perfect, but waaay better than I thought it would be and it definitely stands out from most zombie shooters.

Days Gone at 2 was cool, but with a video title like this, I'm surprised there was no mention or showing of the hordes??? If that's not an iconic unforgettable experience for this game then idk what is...
well done, as always. glad you included The Outer Worlds. that game is so fun and creative and often overlooked.
I love seeing Days Gone making it to almost all youtuber top lists.
Prey is the most underrated game of all time imo... Days Gone is definitely up there too but atleast that sold 10 million copies
Prey is one of my all time favs. It’s dripping with ambiance and can be kinda scary too. Sad that Arkane got the axe and we’ll never get a Prey 2. Still need to try Moomcrash so at least I have that to look forward to.
@@1Luv4SF absolutely agree it's also easily one of most immersive games ever if not the most immersive... The Director of Prey left Arkane a long time ago and created a indie studio they went on to make Weird West which I never played
THANK YOU for having annotated chapters and the lower graphic that says what systems the game is released on, along with year of release! I was sorely missing this on your several previous videos
I love that the New Vegas footage is just modded Fallout 4 haha
Solid list. Definitely agree on FC5, STALKER, Metro Exodus, New Vegas, and Days Gone and Mad Max are weirdly similar not limited to how criminally underrated they are.
For me personally, I'd add "The Saboteur". I can never get enough of that game. Stealth killing a Nazi to steal his uniform then sneaking into an installation to blow it up. Yes to the 100th degree. And I absolutely loved the cinematic style of the black & white to show an oppressed France. Played the game so much, I ended up warping 2 copies of the game. And even would dream about the game when I slept. Can you say obsessed? Lol
So happy you brought up Mad Max. Super underrated. Days Gone too.
It’s nice to see Starfield get some love.
I spent most of yesterday searching for the best Shooter Games on Playstation and today you drop this. Bro you rock! Thanks!
mad max is top 10 for me, maybe top 5
Ive been playing Mad Max the past few months because of this channel. Its been a blast and I'm getting my completionist going with it.
adding the games in sections names really helps
I didn't play days gone for a long time because I only hear bad things about it.. but last year I treid it for the first time and it was absolutely amazing game I couldn't believe they said it's bad. It isn't.
Days Gone!
This game is so underrated.. it’s so sad that a few game reviewers destroyed the opportunity for a sequel…
Days Gone!
Nice, a new gameranx video to make my Wednesday better thanks!
I had a bunch of "hello there" moments involving hordes in Days Gone...
Rage 2 WAS SO GOOD. I’ve been waiting for a new open world shooter of that caliber
U got Cyberpunk
@@sw1zzy940 Cyberpunk is probably the closest thing, you right. In my mind that’s a little more involved than Rage 2. I want something a little more arcadey that can be burnt through in a weekend
Hey, I worked on two games on this list. Noice!
😮 which ones?
Do tell 😳
obsidian dev?
Personally outer worlds would of been so much better if there was a 3rd person mode and was completely open world. Still a good game
I finished Mad Max and then platinum'ed Days Gone and I'd love to play a sequel right away.
But there is no Days Gone 2 :(
So, I got Ghost Recon Wildlands 😏
One of the best games ever made Days gone. I will die on that hill. Also ghost recon wildlands is incredibly underrated
Days gone the most underrated game to release on ls4
Mad max mad respect❤
I bought the physical copy about 4 years after it came out i didn't check reviews or listened to any opinions about it. I simply slipped the disc in and wham! What a banger🎉
Fallout 4 received no love here lol😂
Haven't playd vanilla fallout for ages. However the mods realy spices up the game allot and im jaming it on the OG xbox one s console.
*I started my channel because of you* Gameranx
Even though all the snobby critics scoff at the series, Far Cry 5 may be one of my favorite games of all time. The setting and characters are probably the most memorable in the series and I can't recommend it enough.
FC5 is a fantastic co-op game. It’s just stupid, dumb fun, probably my favorite because of that aspect alone. Story and characters are eh but it’s one of those games that can overlook all that in favor of how fun it actually is to play.
also when I will play it alone?
