Oh my goodness! So much work! And that CAT! Daredevil! I love those pointy-top doors; so thick and solid. Hope you can use them for something, maybe in the out buildings. It seems like a lot of 'wanton destruction', but people need to remember that what's being ripped out is not original to the Victorian date of the building; likely done in the 80s (I think you said), when it was first converted to a home. Returning all of those original windows to the light is vital, and now you'll have the space open to reconfigure into good livable space. Those tiny bedrooms were not that. Carry on, Old Station Family. :)
Spectacular open space starting to reveal itself. There's a caveat that goes with the open space however; be sure to install heat and smoke detectors throughout the space as the building now has the open space where a fire can easily and very quickly spread. Good protection for your investment. Just a thought.
The upstairs floor being previously lowered into the ceiling space of the lower floor, required the cutting and removal of sections of the roof truss tie beam. Those beams provided tension which kept roof weight loads from spreading the walls apart. The removed truss beams critical job was being done by the added floor structure run parallel to the truss. Now that you've removed the upstairs floor, the heavy slate roof is pushing out on walls supporting it, without structure to keep it in tension. Please have a structure specialist inspect the changes and sign-off on it. Good luck.
It's fascinating to watch the progress of clearing out the old station. It's a mammoth project, perfect for armchair 'renovators'. Pixie is obviously young and spritely, as well as fearless. Thank you, Laura and Gill. 💛🧡❤
Beautiful Open Vaulted Ceiling Opportunity there... Restored to old classic high ceilings with full view of original windows. This is well under way to awe and magnificence classic beauty.
I think the problem is floor area. There are plans to restore the outside, and have at least some areas with full height, but to live here with a family of four you need a certain number of rooms and square meters, and the ground floor just isn't large enough. There is probably a planning video on the channel with the details, and I suspect those plans will change as the renovation continues.
@@57thorns They had gotten the temporary living space because of the length of time needed to do many many needed projects... The young ladies will be off to college and this will likely be nearing an empty nest home. Plenty of space for leaving most the ceiling open.
What a mess ! Wow ! I would be too scared to work or to walk among all that dirt and dust ... worried about inhaling all that stuff. I would wear a mask. Once the building is cleaned of all the rubbish, the exciting work starts !
Laura and Gil, I must tell you that of all the 200 video creators I follow, yours are the videos I look forward to the most. Really eager to see what is next. I feel like all of us are part of this inspiring project of yours. You are doing a GREAT job!! Jerry Los Angeles CA
Your renovation will look amazing when it's all finished. What you have done to date is great and cutting back the shrubs in all parts of the garden looks a great improvement in such a short space you have been on site
It looks like a mess now, but it is at that stage where it is about to go from demolition to construction and restoration. I am so keen to see what you make of this. I am almost jealous that my project is done. I would love to be doing this. I know how stressful it can be behind the scenes, so let me encourage you by telling you it will be worth it.
It is just a mammoth job 😬😵💫 How wonderful that you are really getting down to the original features and uncovering the beautiful details!! I would imagine you’d like it to all be done already 🙈 Greetings from Nashville!!
While you may have one or more rooms using the full height of the interior, you'll probably want some "upstairs" rooms. Creating them without blocking the windows will be an interesting challenge.
Fantastic vid and demolition work. I guess you had a structural engineer advise what could be removed in order to maintain the integrity of the remaining building once all those interior floors were removed. Keep up the great content. Always look forward for them to drop.
It's like Alladin's cave isn't it? Unfortunately, without the piles of treasure I presume? Bummer! Oh well, nothing in life is perfect. This job certainly required expert help. Coming along very nicely. Our cat fell or jumped from our upstairs window, all we saw a fluff ball pass the downstairs window got up to look he shook himself with a look of what happened? I think the silly thing was sleeping on the ran tiles, rolled over and fell. Looking forward to part 2 & things to come.
Seeing the demo guy leaning over to get around the stairs. If that is where you are keeping them, it would make more sense to put them on the outside wall and then have the passage in the middle where the ceiling is higher
When I hear this background music, I get the 'Cowboy Junkies' song "Angel Mine" stuck in my head. 😊 I love the song, so it's a good thing! 😃 Looking forward to hearing what your future plans are, after all the demo is done.
I bet you guys are so excited a clean canvas l hope you take the ceiling above the windows as a joiner l would be biting at the bit to get back in there it’s looking good well done 👍
Interesting to see that those massive trusses were buried in the original station ceiling. The bottom of those old joists are flush with the bottom of the trusses. The remnants of the original cornice show that as well. Inasmuch as you want to expose the tops of the old windows, you won't have much of an upstairs left. Maybe just a low attic. So I'm quite anxious to see the plans. I vote for full height open beam ceiling. Of course that gets a little expensive in the winter. Radient floor heating would help.
Boy, all of that de- struction certainly created a huge mess. Of course, leave it to me to wonder how many rats and bugs were displaced. Considering how many years the building was abandoned, there had to be some kind of criters in the insulation. Good thing everything is coming out.
Looking great. Wow what a big project to take on, congratulations. It will be beautiful! I wonder if the rafters could be re-engineered to allow for more space? ,
Loving this renno! Also loving your vibe you present the videos. It’s going to be such a pretty block and house when you’re done. It’s so innovative and I have several tiny house on wheels friends who would be keen to have an update on how that’s working too. If you feel like doing another toilet system video that is!😅
I hope the insulation didn't have asbestos in it. I would think it would, at least some of it. None of the workers wore respirators. Nor, were they careful about putting the insulation in sealed bags right away. And then there's the family and pets wandering around inside breathing in that air. I pray nobody gets asbestosis or any other respiratory illness. I'm glad you're saving the old chest of drawers. I hope the other drawer isn't missing. I can't wait to see part two.😮
I hope by the end of part 2 there is still a shell standing koz there ait much holding it up. BTW huv ye sent Gill away for couple o weeks tae Ibiza fur a wee holiday till the real work starts. 😂
Well, I was thinking about the decorated windows. How you could save them. That is if you don't have enough space for headroom upstairs after you raise the floors. You could take and lower the windows so they would be just off the ground floor. or put in a small window below the decorated window top to bring down the windows.
Can't wait to see those old windows in all their glory :) The chest and drawers looks like another restoration waiting for you. And the doors with the old iron hinges and door latches. Will you be reusing them?

Hi, you’re absolutely right about it not being built as a two story. We’re going to have the upstairs floors under the level of the top windows so they will be exposed in the bedrooms.
I’m guessing you will probably raise the roof so you’ll have the required clearance for living space in the attic? I know it’s a historical building, but that’s the only way I can think you could achieve a liveable upper floor.

I think most of the original features were ripped out by previous owners who did a very poor modernisation of the Station. Most of what's been taken away is plaster board and insulation, horrible looking doors and beams that are of no use or interest. They are opening up the original windows and exposing the big triangular rafters which will be wonderful when completed. From what she's said I think they will be trying to source things that will reflect the original building.
