    Hey lady! I’m a 63 yr woman and my younger yrs as a divorced mom with 2 kids to raise alone, being laid off 4 times, times were worse back then, believe it or not, I survived with strength and knowledge from God. I’m not religious, but did serious growing and made it to now. So I’m trying to hang on 6 more years to experience what retirement is. I’m still alone with a house full of rescues. Kids are grown and out, amazingly still at the same company at 19 years. I’m struggling with this though. Needing to hang on longer. Things will calm down for you. Keep working hard at everything and it all will fall into place. I subbed to you as I am highly sensitive empath and understand where your at. Good times are coming ♥️Much love to you ♥️♥️

  • @NefariaAdventures
    @NefariaAdventures 8 месяцев назад +11

    Rachel I hope you can get some good night's sleep soon! All those compounding factors sound so stressful and exhausting - the move and unpacking (moves are one of the most stressful life events, ever!), seasonal depression, job loss & anxiety, lack of privacy/having to share space at the hotel, music blaring and other sounds and inconsideration from the food shop, and the cats waking you up all night. Anyone would be at their wits' end. Wish I could bring you a warm cup of sleepytime tea.
    For the sleep issues (I know this won't entirely cover the noise, but it might help), I would recommend a fan and a white noise machine, as well as ear plugs. Ear plugs and a mini USB fan are a must when I travel. The fan and white noise especially help our dogs sleep (in our bed). When in a new place, our smallest dog likes to wake up every few hours at night and run around - hemp treats have helped with this; I think they have some for cats too. Maybe the cats will settle down after a week?
    I hope you are able to move somewhere quieter/peaceful when your lease is up. Neighbors like that can make your life hell. Just remember the sense of being overwhelmed is temporary due to the move, new job, all the boxes packed in (and the frustration of having to Tetris it all), etc. Give it a month a hopefully things will have improved. I am the same way with regard to not asking for help! I don't want to bother anyone, but then I get super stressed out and overwhelmed. I feel really down when I haven't had my coffee either. I have felt similar to you in situations when moving, experiencing job loss, etc.
    Thank you for posting this video, it was very real. The entire time watching it, I just wanted to give you a hug through the screen. I hope and pray things get better for you soon, with a full night's sleep and some hot coffee in the morning :)

    Morning Rachel,
    I'm 50 and just moved. I just fixed coffee in my new place and sat down to watch RUclips. Saw your thumbnail and decided to watch. I am happy you pushed through. I'm in the unpacking process as well. Doing it alone and it's hard but I am doing a little at a time to not get overwhelmed. Everything you described I was feeling. Just know a lot of us women are really carrying heavy loads and it gets stressful but we always count our blessings and are grateful. It's admirable to show the process and be calm. Just know many women in thread understand and are here to let you know to hang in there.
    It's ok. The kitty's will adjust. Just try and relax and don't absorb what you're seeing around you. Just do one thing at a time as you have the energy. That's what I'm doing. It's good to vent. Stop blaming yourself. Life shifts. Don't blame yourself for something you couldn't control. Big hug. You haven't failed, you're adjusting to change 😊

    Oh no I’m so sorry to hear about your living situation! I went through something very similar last year where I moved to a slightly cheaper but vastly smaller place and I also have two cats. I had downstairs neighbors that had very loud and violent marital arguments all night almost every night. The noise and space made me feel horrible for my cats and I ended up breaking my lease early and finding a new place that luckily worked out and is a huge space that’s even cheaper than the last place! I really hope things work out with your living situation I know how tough it can be and I really feel for you!

    • @yellowbird5411
      @yellowbird5411 8 месяцев назад +3

      My fan next to my bed is my sound machine. I live next door to an AirB&B and they can get very rowdy sometimes out by the pool. Someone will rent the house, then all their friends come over, and it's Yah Hah until 1 or 2 in the morning. BBQ's, beer, doors slamming, cars coming and going, and my bed is on the second floor which for some reason picks up more sound than the bedroom on the ground floor. So yes, get either a sound machine or a nice humming fan. Or both. I can't sleep without air circulating, so I do love my fan! It almost totally blocks out the wild parties next door.

    Happy to see you back Rachel, but sorry to hear things have been so rough. Allow yourself some grace - in a short period of time you have experienced multiple major life stressors. In time things will settle and you will find your rhythm again. Re the noise at your new place, perhaps consider investing in a quality set of noise canceling headphones. I had earthworks machinery operating next to my home for 3 and a half years whilst a new subdivision was built - I can’t begin to describe the stress I felt at the relentless noise and vibration through my home. The one thing I found which helped was listening to soothing/relaxing music and calming meditations through noise canceling headphones. Wishing you well.

    Is there a possibility to change units? I have been living in my current building for 4 years. However, I started out in another unit that I only lived in for 5 months. I moved because of certain issues in the unit. Being over a loud business is a good reason to change units and to a larger one if possible. You may consider inquiring to see if it’s possible. Moving is rough, especially with small spaces. A tip for noisy environments: noise canceling headphones (the over the ear kind) have been a lifesaver for the daytime. They are excellent. For sleeping, earplugs and a white noise machine really help. The white noise might also help the cats - my dog finds it relaxing. There are white noise videos on RUclips so you can try without buying anything. In the long term, moving is the only thing that helps, but these have made a big difference in how felt and slept.

It's unbelievable how I struggled to find a position harder than when I first got out of college with LITTLE experience. Even though I'm glad to have retirement, investments and savings still in tact, I'm gonna act like I'm down 0 games to 2 against LIFE in a best 4 games out of 7 series (NBA playoffs metaphor) and I literally have to win EVERY game by maxing out my 401k and saving on the side after all that time I lost.

    So sorry to hear how tough this transition has been. I relate very much to being independent to a fault. The hardest thing for me is that when i do ask family for help a couple times a year (such as help me assemble this lawnmower, help me manage these tradesmen so they don't know Im alone and rip me off) it gets thrown in my face, used against me, and generally causes arguments. Guess im oversharing just to say that I understand how it feels to feel like you're on your own and making mistakes. Even though you're doing the best you can in the circumstances. You WILL get through this. Id have a serious talk with your landlord. You have nothing to lose. It sounds like things were not shown accurately.

    Not sure if this would work for you but have you thought of downsizing your bed to a single bed? You could sell your current one and it would give you some more room to move. Try to get an extra thick pad for your rug so that will dampen the noise down a bit more. A white noise machine or even a small fan running can help with the noise also. Don't worry about the cats. They will settle down and adjust. They will take their cues from you. If you are stressed out, they can sense it. Things will work out. You don't have to stay in this apartment forever. You can move to a better place at some point in time when you feel a bit more financially secure. You've got this. Your sleep is important. Everything seems better when you are able to get enough sleep. Sending you love and prayers.

    Moving is always traumatic. There are always things you don't see at a viewing that you won't come across until you are in. And then you just have to learn to live with it. You are not a failure. You are doing what has to be done. Finding a new job, and one that you are suited to, is something of a miracle right now. You could be serving fries at McDs. :)

    Hi Rachel. You did what you had to in order to take care of yourself and the cats. It’s perfectly ok to have some therapeutic cries. Life was overwhelming the last few months and settling in to a new place and job isn’t easy.
    Our society says independence is the only way to be. Being interdependent is not bad at all. Hopefully you’ll continue to make progress in asking for help.

      Thank you William!! I really love that last sentence because I couldn't agree more! We try so hard to "make it on our own" and sometimes showing need for help is looked down upon, which is just crazy. We are meant to live communally and not isolated but things are all backwards!

    I know it's really hard to grasp when you're in it but if you could view this entire thing from the outside you'd be bloody amazed at what you've achieved. Job loss, unemployment, job search, interviews, new job, leaving old flat, moving into new flat - I mean come on! That's like a whole tournament of effort! And by yourself??
    The only thing you can do now is eat, sleep and get your mind back, then you can start looking at options/improvements. Don't make decisions when you're exhausted.
    Also, cats are resilient. even the ones that seem less so. They will bounce back.

      Thank you so much!! I moved to relocate for the new job. Sadly, I was in the last place for so long, there’s been a lot of rent inflation over the last couple of years so it’s about the same money for half the space.

    The job market is really bad for real ! But actually it's not that bad in the service industry! I think it's mostly bad in tech and cooperate where they're doing mass lay offs and trying to operate at minimum cap to save money. If anyone is having trouble , please consider switching to a trade job or service job. For example we need HVAC techs, lpn nurses etc, you'll never worry about having a job again trust me!

    Can you put yourself on a waiting list for a quieter place? My cat and I are both highly sensitive to noise and disruption. That would set my teeth on edge and I'd probably have words with the food shop.

    Transitions are never easy (i.e. professionally, physically, etc) You need to take time to adjust. You have been strong all this time so i know you'll continue to do what you need to do (which means asking for help when you need it) and get back to the Rachel we know and love. ❤

    If it’s only $50 cheaper, why move? I empathize with your struggles… I had to break my lease from my last place due to the size of the apartment with a large dog and noise from the neighbors who’d installed subwoofers on the wall we shared who’d often fall asleep blazing music or movies! The noise drove me insane in combination with feeling claustrophobic. I now live in a house I rent for $150 more and even though I struggle more to make ends meet my peace of mind in the other areas of my life is worth it. I can finally rest.

    I know I'm going to sound like a smartass, but have you had your vitamin D levels checked? I have been taking it year round for several years and it has really helped me with seasonal depression. At the same time, you can check your vitamin level B12. I'm really sorry if this is off topic.

    So what happened that you had to move? Was it sudden? Why are you so upset? Crap happens. I just went through hell for 3 years with a rental company. I thought I would die. But I didn’t. Life can get overwhelming but you can do it. All crying is going to do is upset you further and age your face. Crying drains you of all your emotions and your energy. Equally as bad is holding it in forever. You gotta find balance. And regarding the roommate situation accompany cannot put you with another person. I don’t know if you in the United States, but in the United States, they cannot put you in a room with another person, especially if you don’t know and corporate that is a strict law, or whatever they call it in the corporate world.

      I moved for a new job. It was a little bit quick as when they hired me, I only had 2 1/2 weeks until training started. And then I knew I would be located here after training so I moved in a tight timeframe and there were only 3 available apartments in my price range. I understand that crying makes things worse but like you said, you have to get it out. I can't stop it from happening, especially when I'm stressed and sleep deprived.
