U just don't buy shit on release... wait for like a year... watch a few walkthrus/playthrus... wait for new mods to come out (for my PC bros)... wait for a sale... or dlc etc... look up the game and see how much replayability there is...
This is why i stick to solo games more then anything...
Shit like Rimworld, CK3, Stellaris, Total War Warhammer... shit I can modify and create entire new games or realities in... shit with like... an actual feeling of progress...
Those are like the only games I've touched in nearly a decade (besides the occasional Smash Bros/Mario cart/or Lego couch co-op game... I tend to still enjoying those games with my sister n her kids... sometimes I'll grind out some pokemon if I'm bored)
With the amount of fucking content u get from both the developers n mods... and... they don't got the bs P2W aspects or stores etc... like I don't wanna game that requires me to feel like I'm taking a gamble when I turn it on
Also the Halo shit was so sad...
Halo 3 was like... my life from elementary to high-school... I went to tournaments with my friend... I'd play like everyday with my sis...
I'd go thru the map editor shit and break the fuck outta custom maps lol... it was fucking amazing.. everything since like ODST was poop

Just helps you learn all the mechanics and if you might find it enjoyable...
I don't really tend to play games anymore that have set storylines and paths anymore... I like to wander, explore, n do shit at my own pace...
At the same time... I don't really see how watching someone play a multiplayer game would spoil that much either as every lobby will be like a fresh start with new people

This isn't something limited to the video game industry. I was at a company where the marketing department made the calls on timelines for development. For example for a small project, I told them once in a meeting that the project would take a minimum of 4 weeks if no issues popped up and everything went perfect, realistically it would take about 6 to 8 weeks. In the end they decided that it would be done in 3 weeks and I had to meet their timeline. After a few projects like this one I told them they got this shit and they could do this clearly without me because they didn't care what I had to say otherwise. My purpose was to do the work as fast as possible cutting all corners and take the blame when stuff went wrong and zero credit when it went well. I found a new job within the week, the place that hired me I'm surprised they did I was still furious about the previous place I made sure to express the high level of incompetence and made it clear I wont' tolerate that shit. They called back a couple days later and wanted to know when I wanted to start. In the end I found a better place with better pay.

Same here. I worked in an assembly line once and had to meet a certain requirement by a deadline. And the only way I knew how was to cut corners so I did so to meet the deadline but that meant the product wasn’t perfect. So I get blamed for making bad products. So next time I slow down and make perfect products but couldn’t make enough to meet deadline and they get on my ass for not meeting the deadline.

Release dates are chosen by people high up the totem pole based on what they want to happen determined by the company's goals, not by what's possible. Engineers basically just roll their eyes, ask what they should work on next, and just live day by day. I work in a corporate structure with coders (data engineers) and "stakeholders" (managers and directors who decide what's needed and when).
In the work culture I am in, we have Business Analysts and Project Leaders who are not only there to take what the stakeholder wants and relay back from the engineers what is possible (especially with deadlines)...
They also are there to determine the real goals, and figure out what will best solve that.
Because management will say "I need , how long until I can get it"... where the business analyst will take that and go "why do you need that thing? what do you need it for?", and then when the real goal is found they can get the engineers to come up with a proper solution.
In most almost every launch failure I've seen in my own work environment... it was nearly always a failure in this critical step.
There needs to be a huge level of respect and deferrence between these layers for this to work. The business analyst HAS to be able to day No, and the management has to remember why they hired them and accept that an alternative solution is needed when told so.
I would be willing to bet dollars to donuts that this layer of design management is missing or lacking the respect needed in these companies whose games fail to launch in any good start.
Note: This isn't necessarily a factor between publisher and developer conpany. In fact, it's more likely an issue within the development company itself.

The core problem with video games these days is the fact they are able to be patched/updated. Though in theory being able to update/patch games after launch is great, the fact that developers have this as a possibility has seem to made many decided to release unfinished products at core with promises of updates to fix issues.

The main problem is they knew they wanted guns and vampires, but that's about it. Like they don't seem to expand much more than that. I would have suggested a set cast of characters with different guns and core abilities, you queue in with other people or the other characters as AI. You get story bits for each character as you play through the missions, their motivations for being a vamp hunter, their goals, and you can help them make that a reality. They start off taking down basic nests and once per so many runs of progressively harder dungeons if you will, they come across a significantly harder coven. Now you unlock hunting for the elders. But you need more clues. Your goal is the original. You take him or her down, all the other leeches die with them. But it won't be an easy fight. Each coven unlocks new ability paths and weapons (rng) for each character. PvP: one team is hunters, the other is played by all elder vamps with lesser vampires obeying commands. This is how I would structure a game around the concept.

I think a big part of the reason why critics reviews and user reviews differ so tremendously, is because average users tend to review bomb games if they're unhappy and straight up give them the lowest possible rating, rather than trying to be objective about the pros and cons of any given game. So something like Redfall, that might objectively be a 3-5/10 ends up getting a 1/10 user score. This is especially apparent on metacritic. I do think that a lot of critics tend to go easy on most "bad" games though, that much is true.

No matter what you do to try and fix it and improve it people will always remember their initial reaction to the game. Meaning that if a game is mid it should cost like $40 or $30, but devs don't seem to know or be able to gauge if it's a $30 to $40 game or a $60 to $70 game. No one knows. Anyways maybe they should learn or should have learnt a long time ago that they should be more humbler and price the game accordingly to what makes a game worth X or Y amount. The real issue behind all these bad games, is money. Microtransactions, live services, DLC, rushed production, they're all attempts to squeeze more cash from a single title. If a game is hyped enough, there'll be enough preorders and such to give the company cash flow a shot in the arm. Then they'll fix it up over the next year or two and it'll slowly develop into something that people actually want to play and put money into, which will allow them to milk even more revenue from it. Or it'll die off completely and they'll move on to the next mess. The only way to stop any of this from happening is for basically everyone to stop spending money on games. Which, of course, will never happen. So, Catch 22.

User reviews are not some kind of great metric to go by. Review bombing is a thing. People generally are more prone to provide a review if their view of the thing is negative, so it will skew lower if there is no review bombing. People won't like a game and give it a 0/10 even though it's not even close to being a 0/10 game. They just tried a game that they subjectively don't like.

    My perception:
Xbox One/Series is great for people who like Xbox games and don't have a PC or for people who just like playing console without dealing with Windows problems. Also, kudos on Microsoft for allowing Xbox 360 and Xbox discs to work on the console without paying a subscription like Sony is asking for. Xbox seems to rely more on an internet connection than Sony does. I mean, you need internet just to set the console up. The system software always changes, so get ready to learn a new UI every once in awhile. You also got Game pass, but so does Windows users.
PlayStation 5 is great for people who also own a PC but want to mix playing console and PC games. However, now lots of those games are being ported to PC, but Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart is still only for PS5. PS4 is all the backwards compatibility you get for free. PS2 games even when you own the disc? Nope. I guess you have PSVR2 now though.
Nintendo Switch is great for people who own a PC and for those that don't. There are so many exclusives on that console, it's insane. Goodbye backwards compatibility though unless you want to cough up money for a subscription to play games without owning them. E-shop is also a miserable, laggy mess. The Switch System software is fast and to the point.

Too many people forget the context of this game, it was greenlit at a time where every asshole was trying to cash in very late on the live service looter shooter model, and I genuinely think it would have released so it would have had way too little player base to even justify the support. Too late was it changed to not have a cash shop (which everyone hates) for a genre (that’s totally gone out of fashion) and then Xbox pick up this 80% complete stinker of a title with an acquisition, and the game is very probably doa anyway. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they put it out like this just to save wasting any more money on something you’ve received from legacy Zenimax.

I keep seeing it happen over and over again, and they have "testers" that are bottom of the barrel and no experience with testing or QA in the video game world.

Not sure people realize how historically bad a 59 on Metacritic is for a 1st Party AAA title. I don’t remember another 1st Party title being that low.

The problem on large part was the mock reviews. Since games are often still being worked on as the reviews are being made, the reviewers assume that bugs will be ironed out by the time they submit their mock review. They should include two scores, one for how the game is as they played it and another for what it would be if X was fixed.

31:40 Please just do this. I don't know why people keep shit in their steam library that doesn't work. If the game sucks refund it and wait and see if it gets better. They don't deserve your money if the product is absolute trash. They keep your money when it's just sitting there so what are you doing? If you can refund it, refund it. If it's as shitty as redfall fight for a refund. If you got it through gamepass then it's w/e. (Another reason why game pass is a big win.)

Even Baldur's Gate 3 is oddly enough only coming out on PC and Playstation at launch.

One thing that makes people chose PS5 over XSX is the fact that many games run better on PS5. one funny example is 'ghostwire:tokyo' it had problems in PS5 however one year later in XSX it still has those problems and even runs worse in XSX, heck I've even seen some people who insulted it when it was on PS5 but praised when it was out for XSX lol. Anyway, if you just wanna play games PS5 is the better choice, if you wanna play games with mods PC is best.

If any game publishers are watching. its 2023. The bare minimum is 60 fps for a single player game and 120fps for a multiplayer pc game. The game should be functional on launch and be fun to play.

Best reviews are from people that buy the game and play it. Streamers high up don't give an accurate review, they are very bias. Why they think they are the most trustable source of review? The community is the real deal.

Starcraft Ghost was put on indefinite delay for like 10 years before they finally cancelled it.
Rainbow Six: Patriots sounded so good but was cancelled pretty early, probably in favor of Siege.
I still wish for both of them.
