  • If you're looking to get away from the hoards of people in the nearby Enchantments area look no further than the hike and climb up to Lake Victoria and Cashmere Mountain. Lake Victoria has that Colchuck Lake look and feel. Chances are good there will not be a single person at Lake Victoria. Lake Victoria is one of the best unknown alpine lakes near Leavenworth Washington. By extension, that makes Cashmere Mountain one of the best unknown mountains near Leavenworth as well. Tucked in a tiny corner of Alpine Lakes Wilderness near Leavenworth Washington is Lake Victoria and Cashmere Mountain. There is a faint trail that leads up towards Lake Victoria from Johnny Creek Campground at Icicle Creek. Route finding is a must in order to find this pristine alpine lake. From Icicle Creek, Lake Victoria is just 3 miles up but well over 3,000 feet of elevation gain. Continue up the couloir on the other side of Lake Victoria in order to reach the summit block of Cashmere Mountain. Above the couloir and waterfall is a beautiful basin. This is a perfect area to camp for a couple days to explore the entire Cashmere Mountain massif. Bring your patients as well for this all day adventure in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness as there is some decent bushwhacking along the way.

    Awesome hike. Been doing some research on this one. How did you avoid the private property getting to the TH? Ford Icicle Creek near Johnny Creek Campground and bushwhack west toward the bootpath?
    Any suggestions on what time of year would be good for fording Icicle Creek? Assuming it's a bit too high right now.

    • @TheMountainMatt
      @TheMountainMatt  28 дней назад

      We did that back in August 2023. Snow melt is probably crazy right now. We parked just east of Johnny Creek Campground right off the road and bushwhacked till we found the trail. There’s a bunch of ribbons heading up towards the boulder field once you find the trail. I had a route I made downloaded into my phone that helped. There’s a decent ridge to navigate around after the creek, if I remember correctly. You’ll have that lake all to yourself 👍🏼… I did read something about people driving up to some private gate on the other side of the creek and parking there. You could download my route off of my AllTrails account and follow that. FYI.. if you are attempting Cashmere Mountain from the same route we did try the northern part of the summit block. We got cliff hung and ran out of time. It looked like it would go approaching from the north not the west like we did.

    Damn I feel old. When my bro and I were up there, there was no trail from windy pass to Cashmere mountain... Now all these years later there is... yowsers.

    • @TheMountainMatt
      @TheMountainMatt  2 дня назад

      We were thinking about taking the standard route up but decided on making our own route as well. Glad we did all the bushwhacking and route finding because Lake Victoria is amazing! We saw 1 person all day and he was headed back down the standard route right at Windy Pass. I think the standard route is almost 20 miles total but mostly trail now like you mentioned. I bet that felt SUPER remote back in the day 👍🏼

      @@TheMountainMatt That is a mere 25 years ago... Internet has changed things massively. People look up their route before going now. Just like there is a trail to Tank Lakes now. Back when there was no information and all you had was a map, the number of routes was HUGE and while others had been there, and there were some pinch points, actual off trail "trail" did not exist by and large other than to exceptionally well known areas such as Forbidden peak or Eldorado Peak or Snowfield peak etc.

    Sweet!! I’ve always wondered if one of those couloirs went from Victoria. I’ve considered doing an overnighter camping at the lake since it looks so cool but I don’t think I want to lug a pack up there. Cool video! Love the eastern cascades

      I couldn't find much of anything besides winter information about the couloir. I trusted FatMap and it didn't fail me thank God 😂. The basin would be perfect to stay a night or two if you could make it all the way up there with a pack. Thanks for watching! Cheers!

    That creek is a mosquito bait gauntlet. The other side is Ingalls, 18 miles up to the backside of Stuart, he is right about one thing. Once at the end of the creek towards Ingalls Pass it is a massive basin of wilderness. Massive. And you can also do the Ingalls Longs Pass. The actual TH is Esmeralda Basin for those. The Enchantment trail is permitted now. It is a long walk up Icicle. He captured the terrain of cascades they are not user-friendly off-trail. at all. If you break something you are FUBAR. But you already know this. GREAT JOB on this suffer-fest.
    Okay go to Esmeralda Basin. Go up both passes, go over and out Ingalls Creek over the Longs Pass. it has old road leading down then you walk to creek go. You can also walk out down Icicle Creek. Don't. Lol. You can walk up the west side of Enchantments too. Steeper. For the effort here they could have got up Stuart from the west easy.

    Interesting route. Alpine Lakes is far from unknown but I would agree that Lake Victoria is not. I've done a ton of hiking in that area and I've never heard of Lake Victoria. Nice to see what it actually looks like up there since our hike via Eightmile was cut short due to wildfire smoke.

    • @TheMountainMatt
      @TheMountainMatt  Месяц назад

      It took some grit and desire to get to Victoria. I love finding areas that people don't venture to often. We also ran into that smoke from the wildfires a few weeks after this video in North Cascades NP. Fortunately, we go lucky and the winds shifted.

    Beastly though. North is The Cascades. I go up Lake Chelan by ferry and then upriver to the real Cascades. Old and weak so don't do this anymore. BJ is a beast. Why did BJ not take you to Longs?
    Meanwhile, the ladies are drinking cold drinks in Leavenworth. BJ you could have done both passes and the loop around to Gallagherhead Lake and down out Deroux. LOL. Or Katwalk up and down. There are peaks at Esmeralda.

      Hidden Lake Lookout, Black Peak, Sahale Mountain and Eldorado Peak. From my research of the N cascades area those are probably tops in the area. All vids are up on my RUclips channel with Eldorado coming soon. Mount Baker is another along with Vesper Peak, Del Camp Peak, which are nearby. If you haven’t been there yet you will freak out! 👍🏼
