He is-I always wondered if Miles told him to leave the high hat open like that to be opposite of all the 16th note funky tight hi hat sound everyone else used.

This is the first time I've heard this set. Simply, starting with Turnaroundphase, they couldn't find a groove. They tried, but as a whole, it didn't come together, in my lazy, humble view. And this is my favorite time period of The Miles Davis Band.

Davis and Leibman really push each other on Turnaround Phrase--that's one of the best solos I've ever heard Leibman play, and just listen to Miles on his return around 10 minutes in. That's as fierce as he ever played in his career.

What i like about this is Miles' command of his instrument. He is literally building on his entire career as a trumpeter of compelling instinct. After he lost this command in later years, I don't stand in awe as much. The whole band is of equal musicianship.

this was the first time I saw MD live.
half of the crowd was very angry after the first set (me too), and funky claude had great difficulties
to convince the master to play a second set after a break of half an hour ...
and now, MD is my leading star in musical heaven ...

@@Rabithebengali No unfortunately I never went to any of Miles performances, I was in my late teens , Then I entered the service disco and rock then fusion Bitches Brew was to heavy but ironically there was something about On The Corner which I bought when it first came out that led me to Miles to this day and building up a good collection. Thanks for asking .

I think Pete Cosey is a mix of Jimi & John McLaughlin. He was a session player for Chess Records. Played with Billy Stewart, Muddy Waters' "Electric Mud", among others.

In all fairness, 1973 compared to 74 or 75 is more musically erratic. The themes, grooves, etc aren't as focused as they would be in the later aforementioned years. Listening to some 1973 performances are really a pain to listen to at times, compared to anything later on in the decade
