Thank you for such a great video series man. My Quaife has been sitting in my closest because i spent all my money buying it lol but im getting it installed this week!
Thank you so much! Once it is installed it will be amazing for you! Let me know how you like it. I had many for a couple of months before I had it installed. After I put it in I thought, "What was I thinking waiting around?" Enjoy it!
Speed Deacon... Thank you for such an in depth well rounded and witty review. You've definately convinced me this is the way to go with my ST MP275. Best regards from the UK..... Just off to my local mountune dealer for a spot of open wallet surgery !!
anpr1984 - Thank you! It is definitely the way to go. It is a great product and it is from the UK. Which reminds me I should be including metric conversions in these videos. Sorry about that.
I bought 2016 ST last June. The question I have do the upgrades void the warranty ?. I know it's not the hottest car but it still brings a smile when I drive it.
The LSD upgrade of the Quaife does not void the warranty. I called Ford to make sure. It is also in their Ford Performance catalog. I am not sure about other differentials or other upgrades. You can be sure though that if it is in the Ford Performance catalog it does not void the warranty. In some cases they may require you to have the upgrade done by a Ford dealership, but I asked about the LSD and they said it does not require a Ford dealership install.
For your demo you should have thrown sand out in front of the car pop the clutch and watch the single tire try to get the car moving . Then redo the test with the Quaif installed showing both tires grabbing
Thanks for doing this ! Because of these videos I am going to get a Quait LSD installed on my 2018 Focus ST . I talked to Mountune they will install it fo $1600 and I buy the Quaif . Did your gas mileage go down ? Does your tranny make more noise ?
Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Funny while watching this I heard you say you’re from Pittsburgh. Im from SW Pennsylvania as well. I just ran my first autocross event at Pitt Race yesterday and immediately noticed how hard it was to get the power down when tracking out of the corners. If I decide to sink some money into my car better tires and an LSD would probably be my first two modifications.
I autocross at Pitt Race all the time! I may see you there. I could not go the weekend you were there and I might not be able to make the coming week, but I will be there soon. An LSD makes a HUGE difference on the ability to put down power and to allow you to steer without fighting the steering wheel. I highly recommend it as the first modification.
@@speeddeacon9516 Bro I have a question to install the lsd quafie is it direct bolt on?? Did you just install this with out any other modification? Im bone stock I can do a 60 foot 2.4, with a lsd I pretty sure can do 2.0-2.2. but My condition though was way better.
I am going to do that very soon. I am driving my car to Utah and I am going to do nice twisty mountain runs in Colorado and twisty canyon runs in Utah. When my wife says I should slow down I can say that I can't because I'm doing serous research. I'll report on what I find. I just put my summer treads on and now it is even better than previously.
Thanks for visiting and responding. I have done some minor upgrades that I have filmed but not yet posted. So there will be more videos. I will include "Elton John get up" man in the videos when I post them, since you and some others have enjoyed him. I have not posted anything recently as I attended the Ford Performance Racing School ST Octane Academy in Utah. I drove my car to Utah from Pennsylvania and I visited all five national parks so I was gone for awhile. It was 5,003 miles. I might post that video as well. I plan on ordering the Focus ST Power Pack so I can have 90 more foot pounds of torque in the next couple of days and that would make a nice video because everyone does the Cobb or the Mountune, but no the Ford Performance upgrade. I have other planned upgrades but I am still debating them with myself. Thanks for your comments. It was very uplifting and helped me to continue to finish my video editing. Look for a new post soon!
Yes. It will change your life! Seiously though it makes a huge difference in how large power gets delivered to the road. It's almost like a power upgrade.
@@oceanhome2023 it was 2010. It's gone now though in an M2. The scirrocco R though is a fantastic car. Still think about it now! Mapped by r tech to 315bhp 349lb/ft in gear acceleration just as fast as the M2 really.
Just wondering if you have fixed your rear view mirror yet? Im most of the ST videos i have seen everyone has their mirror flipped to the night position instead of just moving the mirror at the rear articulation point. I moved mine the first day I had it, but so many owners leave it angled down and flip the switch.
The Quaife is officially an automatic torque biasing (ATB) differential, although several times I use the term generically, as many people do, as limited slip differential (LSD). It should be noted that even the Ford Performance website calls it both in its description: "Maximize traction and performance with the Quaife ATB helical limited slip differential for the Focus ST MMT6 gearbox." performanceparts.ford.com/part/2363-ATB-AA It should be called the Wheel Spin Eliminator differential or Maximum Tire Traction differential because that more accurately describes what it does. ATB or LSD does not do it justice.
LSD is one of the more expensive mods you can make, but its improvement to the car makes it one of the best and most inexpensive mods you can make based on WOW per dollar!
It has it's best effect in snow and ice. because in those types of conditions the road is constantly switching between slipping and non-slipping and the car is constantly going over the threshold of traction. The LSD really fixes it all automatically to make sure you are going straight. If there is one complaint that I have about it is the fact that it makes you too comfortable in bad weather and so you go faster than you probably should.
Hello friend, I have a question for you.. Does the quaife not conflict with the car electronics? Do you need to do some reprogramming to the ECU, or is it a Plug and play system? Congratulations on your work :)
It does not mess with the electronics. No programming needed. The Quaife because it is mechanical it is faster than the electronics. It fixes any issues way before the electronics kick in. If you get to the point of having too much power or you are sliding on snow or ice that the Quaife is unable to adjust (rare occurrence actually!), the electronics kick right in. Plug and play! Although you have to do a bunch of stuff to actually plug it in because it goes inside your transmission. Thanks for visiting!
Thanks man! You've been very useful to me for this job! I wish you good day and good work. I keep following what you do with a lot of interest. Thanks, hurry
Thanks! I will add more content soon. I have so many things I have done to the car that has been filmed and boxes in the garage for more stuff I can film. Good luck with your project!
fred peckrul - The car ran horrible the whole way home. I originally thought I had blown the differential because it just wouldn't go. It was acting like it was slipping all over the place. But when I got home and watched the video (at the point after it cuts off in this video) I noticed the turbo gauge had flatlined and wasn't moving and there was a small explosion at the point it happened. As it turned out I just blew a hose completely off. With the hose gone (to where nobody knows!) the electronics couldn't figure out the right air fuel mixture and it just kept giving and cutting out gas. New hose in place and running as good as ever. So this video is misleading. Sorry about that. Ford completely covered the repair, and some other minor problems I've had with the car since I've had it. They have been really great about it. Driving it like I was testing the differential probably loosened it. Destroying my equipment so you don't have to ruin yours! :-)
I have driven and owned many FWD Cars so I know all of their issues . Before my ST I drove a 2006 Nissan Sentra Spec5 6spd and LSD . It is very hard to get by with out one ! I am putting Quaif LSD in my 2018 FOCUS ST I can not drive with out one !!! You will see what I mean if you the LSD
In my head it was scientific. It just doesn't come out that way for some reason. The cost of the differential is $999 for the diff itself, it was $140 for the bolts and bearings of the installation package, and $900 labor. $2039 total which is expensive, but so worth it. It is the best upgrade you can make. No question.
enjoyed watching your 3 videos on this topic while my car is getting an LSD installed today. can't wait to get my car back and confirm your findings.
Let me know how you like it. It will be so much different for you! You will love it!
Any updates?
