Just trying too wrap my head around what kind of engineering went into the transmission of these beasts! Pretty cool stuff. I love how they play ''Queen- We are the champions song''
If you’re still interested, Phillip Kaess‘ chanel featured them. It’s in german though. Basically huge flywheel-clutches joined by huge straight cut gears. Only one gear and reverse gear.
Man I love them big engines and he's got them configured in two different lay out there and you can see nitrous spraying in the turbo spinning man every piece and built is custom here we got 3 engine tractor you know man I love this stuff
I heard a tractor like this before at a tractor pull at the fair ground tractor pulls. It also had two Allison V12's.. I tell you, just at an idle, those things shook the ground.
Those engines powered the P-38, P-39, and P-40. They powered the P-51 until some Brit test pilot said "I wonder what would happen if we stick a Merlin in this thing?" The Allison wasn't a bad engine. Allison was told to not bother developing a supercharger. GE would handle that. GE fell short.
+soaringtractor But all of us aviation nuts will always remember it as the P51. I'm not the aviation expert having only served in the US Army aviation rotary wing (helicopter) at Fort ill's 14th Aviation Battalion. My "birds" consisted of the Bell UH-1, AH1 & OH-58, the Boeing CH-47 and the Sikorsky CH-54 Skycrane. The Skycrane is still used exclusively by nearby (10 miles) Erikson Sky Crane fighting fires worldwide under a different nomenclature but whenever they're circling over the house or I see one, they'll always be a "CH-54" to me. It's the only rotary-winged aircraft I've ever flown in.
+soaringtractor I'm reminded of this old fart who claimed he flew a P-38 in Korea. He was dead serious! Speaking of Lockheed, my late best friend's late mother worked for Lockheed in Burbank, Ca. during WWII installing the nose cones on the fuselages. She had some funny-ass stories. She was tiny and Lockheed liked her because she could crawl inside the wings and do shit. One of her stories she was working on a Constellation and they pulled her out of it and wanted to test fly it. She told them if they flew it, the tail section would fall off (or wing, can't remember) and they brushed her off. Sure enough, when it landed, it happened. I know it sounds far-fetched but I don't think this lady was smart enough to come up with a fairy tale like that. I was her power of attorney and ended up with all her "stuff" (useless junk mostly) and one goodie was a mint pair of right and left-handed tin snips in a nice metal box. The box had a "Property of Lockheed" metal plate riveted to the lid. Nice aviation collectable! I sold it for $80 I think. Still have a little WWII-era Lockheed "stuff". She died at the age of 97 and was born in 1914.
+soaringtractor Yes, I can't afford a publisher. Why? You got a problem with that? What does that have to do with aviation? Are you mental?????????????????????????????????????? You should have known.
+soaringtractor "Free"? I wish, kid! I personally pay Charter Communication $117 a month for the privilege to mock you kids! How much does your Mom pay for you to play on the computer, kid? You should have known.
Hrm, I really thought both these tractors used Rolls Royce Griffon engines because of how smooth they sounded, but was wrong. The HP is 2500 for each engine though.
I heard a comment by the team that they think most US teams didn’t put enough engineering and evolution into the Allison engines. The engines used today are heavily modified.
n. woody The V12 engines are definitely becoming as scarce as hens teeth and costing nearly there in gold or at least silver. I remember back in the mid to late 70's about half the unlimited tractors in the US were powered by V12 and the rest were split between Hairdryers and V8 that had there cranks bolted together and timed as 16 cylinders and now and then 24 cylinders engines or some off the wall power plant that the tractor owner dreamed up. Now most all pulling tractors are Hemi V8's of some form or Big Block Chevy's all plumbed together the same way. I am not taking away from the new tractor engineering design but truthfully they don't style and attitude or ingenuity but that is just my opinion and opinion are like certain body orifices everybody has one.
The engines seem to me to be 2X Allison V 1710 - V12 engines used on the longed-for aircraft of the WWII Lockheed P-38 Lightning and Curtiss P-40 Warhawk.
anyone wanna look up the mean green machine, lol, look up art arfons.he ran super mods in the states with twin turbines and sat in between almost on front tires.he also held land speedb records at Bonneville salt flats to.live tractor pulling
mitchamus Hm... is that a definitive answer or just a guess? Seems to me they could just place the axle higher with a larger wheel to keep CoM low. I'm guessing it's something to do with some rules they have to follow.
Categories are in part determined by weight, that is why the rest is also made of no more then tube frames. And the more weight you save the bigger your engine can be.
My guess would also do with weight savings. But also they can build a more stout, small wheel tire that can live up to all the load being thrust upon them as the front crashes down. So durability and strength.
Pretty cool to see that style tractor again. They are all but extinct in the states now with multiple Hemi's or BBC's replacing them. But that announcer still needs a beating.
I've been involved it tractor pulling most of my life and I love the sport..If I would have had to put up with an announcer like that every weekend, I most likely would have given it up or he would have gotten a fist in the face every time eh tried to open his mouth..15 min and I almost switched to something else..
you're wrong in standard form they were designed to put out about 1450 horse depending on this dash number. anything above that is called abuse or a waste. but if you didn't care how long it lasted yes you can get 4000 hp out of it but you better have a lot of extras on hand if you want to keep using them
TheFirestoneHD(YT) Looks like Allisons have separate exhaust pipe for each exhaust valve port. Well V12, 48 valves so four per cylinder, 2 inlet valves and 2 exhaust valves per cyl, so you get the picture....
Christ, do our announcers here in the US sound this nuts? Almost Japanese like with all the sound effects and such. Is there something different about euro tractor pulling that they cant use the engine after a certain point and have to coast? They all seem to shut the engine down well before they get to the end
If they're run on alcohol, 4000hp is no problem at all. It's a total of 56L displacement, and 71.4hp/L volumetric efficiency is rather poor for a boosted application, too.
Just trying too wrap my head around what kind of engineering went into the transmission of these beasts! Pretty cool stuff.
I love how they play ''Queen- We are the champions song''
I believe they're giant clutches feeding into 1 transmission
If you’re still interested, Phillip Kaess‘ chanel featured them. It’s in german though. Basically huge flywheel-clutches joined by huge straight cut gears. Only one gear and reverse gear.
@@peteharder6325 That is correct!
WESOME ! Love it! The Allison V12s were very popular here if the states when tractor pulling was really first taking off!
Whatever sort of clutch do those tractor have, just incredible power!
Homemade - basically the same as what is used in a Top Fuel dragster. Check Molinari clutches.
Man I love them big engines and he's got them configured in two different lay out there and you can see nitrous spraying in the turbo spinning man every piece and built is custom here we got 3 engine tractor you know man I love this stuff
Thanks for the great video upload and keep them coming

I love it. Two Allison aircraft engines supported in the front by two craftsman lawnmower tires. Lol
theyre actually 16 inch lol
LOL I know right. Little bitty things. Each engine weighs 1,595 lbs.
And if I am not mistaken, don't they have overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder?
und noch heute einer der besten die es gibt
Dat methanol allison sound.... ! Holy shit. I could listen to that idle/low load "GRRRRRR" all day long.. goose pumps!
Nice Post, Will pull for chrome... Quite the engineering.
What do you do with surplus WW2 bomber engines? Build awesome pulling tractors.
+soaringtractor Actually, they're not "fighter" airplanes. they were "Pursuit", thus the "P" nomenclature. You should have known.

I wish those engines would work that good in the US.
I heard a comment by the team that they think most US teams didn’t put enough engineering and evolution into the Allison engines. The engines used today are heavily modified.
This is incredible. Where do they get their engines from??
WW2 Airplanes Allison V12‘s
correct they up the output mainly by using Methanol which also keeps them cool
.....oh wait, three. Incredible power there.
Sorta neat seeing V12's used on pulling tractors don't see them that often in the states much anymore and the trophy girls are not bad looking either
The plane racers have used most of them up. The ones left are super expensive.

Different cultures, different forms of entertainment. It's unique really.
6:00 Is that a centrifugal supercharger? If so, it's the first I've seen on a tractor.
Yes it is.
What is that song they play in the background at 1:30, i have curiosity
***** Thanks Its a great song.
Serious piston powered machinery!

'No Replacement for Displacement'
Wo für sind eigentlich die Schieber hinter dem Dragster?
They're 2 x Allinson V12's V1710's to be precise. 28L each, 4000hp in standard form each.
So then they also must be 4 valves per cylinder?
Why do they make the front wheels so small?
Less force needed to turn them? Just guessing.
so it's harder to flip it by making the centre of gravity at the front axle closer to the ground.
mitchamus
Hm... is that a definitive answer or just a guess? Seems to me they could just place the axle higher with a larger wheel to keep CoM low. I'm guessing it's something to do with some rules they have to follow.

How much do those megalift stones weigh?
r those 12cylinder allison aircraft blown with injection sweet
Yes they are. Lot of torque and Horsepower
Not to mention 4 valves per cylinder
Are those Allison V 12s?
SIde-by-Side winns the day!
Hey Paul they are pulling a like a lawnmower so they need to be quick
:-) ;-)
I can't be the only one that wants to see these guys put on a wheelie bar and take it down the drag strip...
What is that song they play in the background. I've been looking for it for years, and have no such luck in doing so.
If you meant @ 8:18 then it's "We Are The Champions" by Queen.
we are the champions by Queen is the song playing around the 8:50 mark
Do you mean "Maria" from Scooter? ruclips.net/video/51bhB7EKHdQ/видео.html
Please do not look up the "lyrics" as alway with songs from Scooter.
Why each tractor has the same base? Are there a lot of limitations like in F1?
+Петя Колоброд Every tractor can transport by truck. There are limits in different class, some you see here "Info EC": www.tractorpulling.com/
+Петя Колоброд Hahahaha! :D F1 is the world of limitations.

Why are the front tires so small?
All the power is sent to the back tires. No need for (expensive) large front tires.

what hp is this
one Allison V12 about 2800hp
nope it was 5600 hp
Jack Notts over 10 000
@@RundUmsGamen yea both together but one is 2800hp and 2800hp+2800hp is 5600hp
should a special track made...pound to pressure... like a scale ...so the people can read the score off the track.. something like the drags
i wonder if hes compensating for anything?
Used to go see them
Is this in Japan or where....??

Could it be that there is loud music in public happenings so that people would not exchange ideas with each other?

2 Packard or 2 Rolls Royce Merlin V-12s?
no, these are allisons
Allison V1710's you can tell by the tapered rocker arm covers...Merlins weren't tapered...
barthoedemaker
Hughes 2397 ALLISONS check the valve covers, they are tapered at the front, Merlins were not...
so there are no CLAAS bit on it anywhere? considering that- what sort of differentials do they use? anyone know?
you're wrong in standard form they were designed to put out about 1450 horse depending on this dash number.

Simply ran out of gear....heavy track there that year.
Because back tires are so big
Those are Not V-24's look up the Allisons 1710 and the 3420 you'll see those are 1710's they have 2 exhaust ports per cylinder.
