Got my Iris rev. 5 kit today after using a kinesis pro for a few years. I am so glad there are these less expensive alternatives to those crazy expensive ergodox, dygma, etc., even if I have to build it myself, which I actually enjoy doing anyway. Can't wait to start building it.
Still the best split keyboard and I have had many including Dactyl Manuform, Kyria, Corne, Ergodash, Redox. It's the perfect size with number rows and I love the tenting kits. You have continued to evolve the product and things just work well. Most splits end up being vapourware/paper weights I have found when the support vanishes.
quick correction, the switches you have are the Boba U4s, the U4Ts are the louder tactiles where the T stands for thock. At least that's how I understand it
Thanks for the video. On the site I'm buying the Iris kit from it states I need micro controllers, but didn't see you include such. Would they just be for RGB?
Probably not. I do not see why there would be. I would say that if you are absolutely not sure then the left handed PCB is a safer option to pick as the master PCB. Because and only because I have seen that side picked as the master numerous times with split keeb videos in general.
I'm looking into an iris kit, I read that theyre compable with alps switches? Im curious about this. Long story short, I have access to some Black Alps from the 90's. Will the stainless steel plate work with alps switches?
@@Keebio that was the plan! I habe some alps blacks from a dead dell 101 that need to be cleaned and some older taihao keycaps that need a home really badly, this seems like a near perfect project for that! Thanks for the response!
I have a question about the prebuilt Iris Keyboards, do they have RGB or lighting that comes with it? if not is there anyway to add lighting to these wonderful boards
Just purchased an iris kit. Stoked to see a rev 5 build video. Thank you for making great keyboards and content on RUclips.

Build coming in soon. I'm psyched
There's something relaxing in such videos when I watch how others work :-)

Just pretend I didn't say the T
Can we get a sound test of the finished item?!

Is there a specific side that the Iris v4 is supposed to use as a master/driver?
Probably not. I do not see why there would be. I would say that if you are absolutely not sure then the left handed PCB is a safer option to pick as the master PCB. Because and only because I have seen that side picked as the master numerous times with split keeb videos in general.

The stainless steel plates will work with Alps switches if you use the Iris Rev.5 PCB. :) Cheers!

Once again thanks for the walk-through. Most similar videos show the inclusion of diodes. Please can I ask why they are not required with this build?
These PCBs are pre-assembled/soldered, so they are already on there.
@@Keebio couldn't we get some preassembled with hot-swap sockets as well? :D

There is RGB underglow lighting pre-installed. In-switch lighting is not installed, but single-color LEDs can be added.
i want the middle part but it aint in stock
Hi there! Sorry about that. We are discontinuing the clear mids but still offering the frosted middle layers.
It would be interesting to see if you added a battery and Bluetooth connection to it.
I would like to see a Bluetooth and battery installation video as-well. There will always be a demand for wireless.
You’ve gotta be the only guy on earth who thinks solder fumes smell good 😭😭🤣
Idk, some people seem to agree: audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/ah-the-smell-of-solder-rosin.531788/
Overheated rosin and lead smells like burned cookies to me? Hard to explain 😂
