I was looking forward to this game too, but I held off on a purchase because it just didn't feel like it had enough content for the price. I'm sure they'll add more as development goes on, so for now it can just hang out on my Wishlist while I keep an eye on what they do (or don't do) :P
@@olencone4005 Very fair, especially given the $25 price right now. It's an unusual yet intriguing blend of genres, and without seeing the full picture yet, it's difficult to know exactly who the game is for. 😊
Love the vid! I bought this game and did NOT regret it, I love how effortless and limitless it feels to build... the command feature is absolutely amazing if you don't necessarily love the survival aspect/combat!
I want to play Aloft I did buy it, because I have been watching videos but yours by far is the easiest to understand. You see I’m 65 and my biggest game I’ve played and still do is Minecraft, creative mode, lol Love the building and no fighting. Some of the things I don’t understand on Aloft so I’ve just stuck around the first area, practice flying and recipes. Thank you for going out on a limb and being a mom that loves gaming! My 33 year old son thinks it’s awesome I fill my days with mind challenging games! lol I’ve played Palia, love Tiny Glade, Younder, Grow, No Man’s Sky totally lost on that one and Spyro. This is what a retired widow does with her days lol I will follow you for more tips on Aloft, love your builds!
Aw, it warmed my heart to know that my video helped you, and I think it's fantastic you've gotten into gaming after retiring. I think a lot of my (and older) generations (I was early 80s) think gaming has a stigma attached to it and are afraid to consider it a mind-enhancing hobby, but it totally can be! The building and flying to explore in Aloft is such an endorphin-releaser! One game you might also really enjoy since you like Minecraft creative is Lego Fortnite. There are several modes, including a cozy mode or a creative mode just for building, and it's using virtual Lego pieces. There are farm animals and lots of cute decorations too. Plus, it's free, and you could give your son a key to your world to play whenever he wants. Just a thought :) I recently made a video with 31 cozy survival games if you're looking for more, but it sounds like you've already played a good amount. Keep it up! 🥰
@@BuckeyeBunny Yes.I prefer let "breathe" games in Early Access to have content and see the direction of the creators of the game. This year I probably will buy Dawn of Defiance, Sunkenland, Forever Skies and Enshrouded.
@@Lemark40 I commend your patience and willpower! I'm going to take a look at Dawn of Defiance, and perhaps I need to revisit Sunkenland. I have the other two. Enjoy looking forward to these games! ♥

Thank you! I always feel badly noting subjective criticisms and try to balance them with a compliment sandwich like I used as a teacher during conferences with parents about their kids. 🤣
This video popped up in my RUclips recommendations and i just wanna say I love what you're doing here! Your style of review is honestly unique, but definitely in a good way! I like the way you list positives and negatives, and i liked how you put a tldr at the beginning of the video giving your opinion. I honestly feel like you gave me enough information, just in a single video, that i can make a decision on wether i want to buy the game already. I also liked that you made it clear this was your honest, unbiased opinion and that you paid full price for the game. Keep doing what your doing, i can see your channel growing much more in the future! 👌🏻
I really appreciate your kind words! It's a bit nerve-wracking putting my thoughts (especially as an older female gamer) out there, so it means a lot to hear you enjoyed the format. 💖
I had no clue what this game was about but a few content creators that I watch started playing it on EA release. $25.00 and 64 hours later, I can't stop playing! I opted for peaceful mode because my first attempts (solo player here) I struggled so badly. Totally agree that there needs to be more "levels" of difficulty or the current content needs to scale down (or up) with the number of players on the created world. In Peaceful I still have to dodge exploding mushrooms and sweeping/slamming tentacles but I can deal with that just fine. My "exploring/gathering/hoarding/building" little heart is just so happy. I actually love the emptiness of the world. Between the flying and the music I can ponder what the people here were like before the eternal storm tore the world apart. I do wish my character was a bit cuter, but perhaps she is not human and in the eyes of whatever alien race of people she comes she's actually quite a beauty! LOL!! Thanks again for your honest review and happy gaming!!
It's awesome that you're having such a great time in peaceful mode! I can't wait to see the character options that are eventually added...maybe blinking animations too. I'm like, "Blink, gosh darn it!" But she never does. 🤣
The islands do get more interesting once you reach the second biome, and that one "fresco island" I explored there last night was absolutely stunning. I don't wanna know how many hours it took them to build that one. Also, I might be wrong but isn't the world of Aloft meant to be a world where some catastrophic event took place that basically broke it apart? So it would make total sense you'd be the only one there - everyone else has been dead for a long while, as you can tell by the ruins you can find. Otherwise, fair assessment of the game, pretty much agree about 99% (that 1% would be that I actually like the combat in game).
I had heard the additional map tiers were new biomes with a different terrain, so that's an exciting treat to look forward to, and I believe you're correct about some sort of apocalyptic event that destroyed civilization. But maybe there's a way for us to entice other survivors to begin to repopulate the region so it's less empty. 🤷♀️ Appreciate your tips and insight and glad you're enjoying Aloft! ♥
As a person who’s played other early access, survival games, such as AstromEica I see where the criticism is coming from and I totally understand, but from where I came from in the games that I’ve played this game has significant more content than other early access survival games that I’ve played
A sale and a content update or two would make this a no-brainer IMO...it's solid just a bit repetitive and needing features expanded. Thanks for watching and for your kind comments too! ♥
I personally think there are several ways to look at it: If you want to support the Devs and give them some money to work with, awesome. They did let everyone play free demos for a long time. Hard to pay yourself doing that. BUT, it is very early access. With some major bugs that for me are "almost" deal breakers. I was setting up on one of the big islands with a temple and lots of animals, and I added a few animals I had found... and the next time I logged in every animal had disappeared and the ecosystem was out of balance. Well, done with that playthrough. What saved it for me was the ability to teleport my "home island" into a new game. But still, thats a bug that didn't exist in the demos , and can really take the heart out of the fun. But, these days $25 doesn't seem that much if you are "investing" in what the game will be. And even if you only get 12 hours of enjoyment out of it that is only $2 an hour for some entertainment. Even if I totally stop now, after all the time I've plaed the early acccess and the demos it is like 5 cents an hour. I feel that is money well spent.
Excellent rationalization. 🥰 As I said in the video, people go out to dinner and fork over $10-20 easily, and that enjoyment is gone in hours. Aloft will be around unless Steam goes belly up. Oh, and I'm sure you know, but you can give yourself animals (and pretty much anything else you want) through console commands. There's a big list on the wiki. 💗
Honestly, Enshrouded combat is Janky but this game takes numer 1 spot. Its good that combat is not main premise of the game. Can't wait for more content!
I feel that so many early access games today just don't add up. I stopped buying anything that is early access. most just don't grab me anymore. I miss the days of a hard copy game on my shelf. guess I am just old school. Thanks for the video! Great content!
Oh do I remember the days of being over-the-moon excited to go to Toys 'R Us and buy a new Nintendo cartridge! (yes I'm THAT old) I get that indie developers either need cash flow, feedback to perfect their game, or both, but if the EA version gets stale, I lose all motivation to play the 1.0. It's a huge gamble for devs and players and I know many are sick of EA titles disappointing their wallets. ☻
Is there no way to turn off keep inventory? I love more challenge so I would love it if they added an option to turn off keep inventory but have default be keep inventory on
Currently, the only difficulty settings I've found are the ability to play normal with full combat or peaceful mode without the combat. The options menu only has FOV, POV, and a handful of other visual options, nothing more to adjust the survival experience sadly. I hope they add this!
Wait, where are these options? I've looked within the game's Options section (just visual and performance settings) and in the Create World screen (just peaceful and normal or creative modes). Please share, as I'd love to know how to access more settings. ♥
I think the game is pretty good. I've been enjoying it so far. I'd love to see some more wildlife (such as gigantic flying creatures, Turtles, Whales, Birds, etc.). I also don't really love how limited the exploration feels. I am currently in the second ring and have seen the basic island shapes be reused already. I think it would be interesting if you could either A. build a ship without an island or B. Have like smaller ships that you can take off of your main island to explore. I am excited to see what will happen in the future with this game.
I keep thinking, "Did I visit this island already, it looks familiar!" But it's just the same island in a different cluster, and I find myself rushing now just to get the unlocks. It's enjoyable though, but like you said, they could make it so much better, and hopefully we'll see some of this throughout EA. :)
I think gamers need to reevalutate what is reasonable for the price of a game. Given how stagnant game prices have been for decades, and the fact that AAA studios are eyeing $100 as a new target for their games, I really think $25 is a steal.
When compared to Nintendo titles like the upcoming Hello Kitty base game for 40 bucks, no doubt it's a good price. But compared to other early access titles on Steam, I was expecting something closer to 20 bucks or at least a 10% off launch sale for those supporting at this stage.
To help in combat you can upgrade your weapons. But that is later. For now you can teleport home and go to sleep. You will awaken fresh and full of health. And if you cook meals that will add a lot of HP.
Thank you...but I've done all that with sleeping and eating (just unlocked the upgrade station)...there are just so many enemies and the node whipping its tail at me that I have to turn on godmode solo or it frustrates me beyond belief. But I did learn a dirty uppercut move that is somewhat helpful, so I'll keep trying. ♥
@@BuckeyeBunny in peaceful mode you still have to clear the nodes, and oddly the tentacles can still damage you, but none of the other enemies appear. Also the exploding balls can hurt you. It's a fair enough balance for me I guess, maybe it would work for you? I have enough games to fight in, and enjoy NOT having to fight really.
I wish I had started in peaceful mode, but I felt the need to experience the game as intended...and now I can't change without losing my 3 completed map sectors. BUT, if I ever start again, I'll definitely use your suggestion! :)
Hmm, I know there's a photo mode, but that's not going to work if you just want a more immersive gameplay experience. I bet you could program a macro to do it. 🤔
@@BuckeyeBunny Ctrl V works. . . it's just dumb that it's a command and not a keybind like every other survival game. I would understand if they are still trying to implement it. . . but it's already implemented. They just bound it to a keypress.
Well, when a game seems expensive and you aren't sure it's worth it, you can always "sail the 7 seas" until you know this is a game you want to support and for me, this was worth it
You know I've found bandages are not necessary. If you park your Ship next to the island you are destroying the corruption, you spawn back on your island, then can go right back to fighting. You dont drop any inventory. I just play on default settings.
I honestly think they could even get away with not having any other humans, if they made the world a lot more variable and added more biodiversity and things to do. Also game lore to allow the player to discover a story while they played.
Just to say, if you play peaceful mode, there are the bombs and the spikey hands that can still hurt or kill you. Not truly combat but it isn't completely peaceful. :)
Think I will stick with Valheim and NMS, at least until this game has more, it looks well done so far and very well could be a contender with them once it is has more. I will say capping your frames at 60 is basically playing at console fps (the generally have to cap at 60 because the hardware won't optimize higher at least in the past systems like the ps4) try capping your fps closer to 120 and you might see performance drops in unoptimized games, but games like cyberpunk you feel the difference. The more frames per second the closer to real feeling a game can get, pixels help with visuals but all movement and animation (which is this biggest factor as that is how you traverse the world and fight through it) is fps in these more action oriented games. I tried Cyberpunk on my rich friends rig dude plays in 4k maxed graphics, like 300+ fps the game looked so real it was almost like watching a live action tv show. Even his rig won't play an unoptimized game well though.
I will try that, thank you, but other than shooter games, I usually don't notice higher frames and prefer to max the graphics and keep my fans from blasting off to Mars 🤣...but my couch PC has a 4070Ti Super so I will see if I notice a difference giving Aloft a bigger frame leash. I bet Cyperpunk looked fantastic at 4k!! I pondered upgrading to OLED and/or 4K for the crispy views but chickened out and went with 1440p 180Hz, which my old eyes are fine with.
@@BuckeyeBunny ahh gotcha your choice definitely makes sense i am more into the competitive side things like r6 where frames and ping can mean win or lose. I am only running an old AMD Radeon 6700XT with a quad core ryzen 5 I need a new monitor though when it turns on the first few mins looks like a ghost punched my screen all night clears up when warms up though. Partly why I haven't gotten it I can't choose one 😫
@Audio041194 lol, oh my! 🤣🤣 And yeah, ping issues suck. I'm on local wireless and get 50 ping on a good day in Fortnite. Forget about COD multiplayer. 🤪
Ahh, a shame :\ Lovely vibes from the game, but the gameplay is just not looking like they've changed the combat much from the beta...That said, the base you showed was lovely to look at. Just... not what I'm really looking for in a game. Also at 5:45 ish... Was that some tractor driving we see in the background? :D
Yeah, we'll have to wait to see any major changes to combat and content, but it's coming (and likely a sale at some point, which is more reason to wait)! Ha, I was wondering if anyone would catch that...a feverish Farming Simulator 25 session going on in the background. 😉
Great review - and you said pretty much what I expected. I love the idea of the game but ‘empty worlds’ says it all for me… and at that price too. For £10, I’d get it but not at twice that price. Anyway, thx for sharing the video as always.
Yep, happy to help, and once they finish their roadmap, I expect the game to be unquestionably worth the price and much more depth to the world and mechanics! ♥
Sorry, but - 10? Seriously? With all the blood, sweat, tears and effort that very obviously went into this game? That's not a fair price, that's a slap in the face of the devs.
I bought it for myself and my husband and we're enjoying. So far the only stressful thing is I don't have a roof for my house or a blueprint to make it 😂😅😂😂😂
Oh no!! I don't want to spoil it, but there is a way to get more blueprints for building items. Scroll down to find out if you want. . . . . . . . . You can use your sketchbook to draw new structural pieces you see in the ruins camps on the islands. This includes roof pieces, grass thatched pieces, stone building pieces, etc. ☺
So glad you're loving it! I like it a lot and am hopeful that the updates this year will give it the extra content and polish I think it needs to be fantastic. Meanwhile, I'm addicted to it like you too! :)
Been playing this game almost everyday for over a week, and while it's cool, I freaking HATE the inventory system as well as the UI of said inventory system. The constant item switching in the tool bar is extremely annoying and has exhausted me from wanting to play any longer. The pacing is also very... Odd. You'll find tech early in the game that you cannot make for hours and hours (sometimes real days)
I agree with the inventory problem. I'm always switching tools out of the toolbar because it's not large enough. and it's not a fun chore on controller. I hope they smooth things out during EA...but it's still a solid start, I'm enjoying it. 💗
I have not purchased this game because the combat looks so janky. I disliked Raft for the same reason. I didn’t realize combat could be switched off here. Personally, I really enjoyed Subnautica’s lack of combat, but still having real danger.
I agree it's easy to rationalize, and I'm happy I bought it. But I was also comparing it to similar EA indie game releases priced around 20 bucks and usually with a small discount for launch supporters.
Thank you for the review! I was interested in Aloft when I learned about it in another one of your videos. After seeing this review, the developers would have to do a lot of work for me to consider the game. It looks like it doesn’t have much content. And they would have to completely redo the female character model for me to consider buying. It’s masculine, ugly, the animations are lacking, and she has literally flat feet. 🤷🏻♀️😂
I think they were going for a primitive look, but she literally doesn't blink her beady little eyes, it's freaky. 🤣 At least with 1st person mode, you don't have to look at it.
Really? I don't have any friends who play this but have watched several streamers play with others, and it looked like things were going smoothly. 🤷♀️
I beg to differ that there are various degrees of survival from hardcore starvation with extreme temps and everything wants to eat you to a gentle but steady flow of to-dos to stay alive and thrive yet still enjoy building a home and the beautiful world. To me, true cozy games are just fetch quests or puzzles in a kumbaya, sugary sweet world. But obviously it's all very subjective and we can agree to disagree. ☺
They missed the chance to add a gigantic flying turtle with people living on its shell as lands, that would be insane
Totally, like in this season of Fortnite! But from the trailer, I think a flying turtle might come into play at some point...
I was looking forward to this game too, but I held off on a purchase because it just didn't feel like it had enough content for the price. I'm sure they'll add more as development goes on, so for now it can just hang out on my Wishlist while I keep an eye on what they do (or don't do) :P

I wish I had started in peaceful mode, but I felt the need to experience the game as intended...and now I can't change without losing my 3 completed map sectors. BUT, if I ever start again, I'll definitely use your suggestion! :)
I wish they would bind the "hideui" command to one of the function keys.
I would like small camps of npcs, but not that instant Wall Mart thing that NMS does. And more animals would be nice, even if not for taming.
That's a pretty good (and cheap!) strategy! I got annoyed with the constant dying and have been using godmode, but I like how you think! 🥰
@@BuckeyeBunny I mean if its in the game its a game mechanic >:)
I love your game tips and tricks.
I really enjoyed the demo. I played about 4 hours. I’m still debating on getting it. My main issue is the loneliness like you said.
Right? It's a lot of the same rinse-and-repeat in a lonely world, but once the new content comes, that will no doubt help. ☺
I honestly think they could even get away with not having any other humans, if they made the world a lot more variable and added more biodiversity and things to do. Also game lore to allow the player to discover a story while they played.
You could be very right, and I'm eager to see what a bit of diversity adds to the overall feel of the game. :)
Just to say, if you play peaceful mode, there are the bombs and the spikey hands that can still hurt or kill you. Not truly combat but it isn't completely peaceful. :)
Hey, that's SOMETHING! Good to know, thank you! ☺
@Audio041194 lol, oh my! 🤣🤣
And yeah, ping issues suck.

You can use your sketchbook to draw new structural pieces you see in the ruins camps on the islands. This includes roof pieces, grass thatched pieces, stone building pieces, etc. ☺
@BuckeyeBunny haha thank you.i didn't read it. I keep it as a surprise 😀 I'm trying to convince hubby not to work tomorrow so we can play 😂😂
Aloft is a very nice and cool game, after 31 hours im lost in this fun and not to hard game.
I wish it was a bit cheaper. I just want to fly and base build. But not for $32 (CAD)
I too was hoping for the often-seen launch discount, but no doubt a sailing sale will happen eventually. ☺
The game looks and feels like it was meant to be a VR game not a screen game. I think it would get much better reviews if it were a VR game.
I've never played VR, but I imagine flying would be quite epic!
movement looks a bit floaty when walking
It can be like scooting along at times for sure, and don't get me started on the absence of blinking! 👀🤪
I have not purchased this game because the combat looks so janky. I disliked Raft for the same reason. I didn’t realize combat could be switched off here. Personally, I really enjoyed Subnautica’s lack of combat, but still having real danger.
Subnautica scared the crap out of me, but it was indeed thrilling. 😊
احسنتي👍🏻
The character looks so stiff I can't push myself to buy it, that will be my main focus all the time and I will despise it.
They ARE adding more character customization, but I agree about the odd, stiff look. My girl does not blink at all, the weirdo. 😂
Huh? Spent $25 and 25 hours...so $1 an hour? How much is going to a movie? $12 for 2 hours?
Too bad the multiplayer aspect on release is an utter joke.
Really? I don't have any friends who play this but have watched several streamers play with others, and it looked like things were going smoothly. 🤷♀️
Meh. You just convinced me to not buy it.
😬 I'm sorry that I did, but if it's not your cup of tea, I'm happy to save you money. It might be worth watching it for the future updates though. ♥
I have the game. Big mistake
Really? I'm sorry you don't like it, but hopefully you were able to refund it or will like it better as their planned new content releases.
@ i will and see about the updates. Thanks for your answer 👍
there is no such thing as a "chill survival game". if a game is chill then it isnt survival, its just cozy
