Thank you so much, Susan. Loved everything as always. So happy that you went back to the classroom My grade level team is not very tight. I love that you share with them. We have a new member, who is so sweet and has come under my wing. Thank you for all your ideas! It's already November!!

Teaching life is so much easier when you have a cohesive group (or even one close teaching buddy) to share the good and bad with!! How is it already November?! The year is flying!

Thank you for your video! I loved it. I assume you teach kindergarten or first grade. Please post your next observation video. I benefited from your observation preview. YOu are an awesome teacher!

Your principal is very thorough and detailed. My principals just come in and sit at the back of the room with their laptop and they enter notes into the platform we use for observations. We don't have a pre conference.. After the observation we just get an email that it's ready to look at it and sign off on. I am based in Georgia . I am glad you posted the rhenrenks. I was looking at them but was worried they might be too small. Definitely ordering them.
Yes definitely want to see how you run all groups. I feel that's an area I need to improve on especially with time management.

It’s so interesting to hear how others do it! I’ve experienced observations like you’re describing in the past too!

Hi I enjoy your videos and have implemented a few of your concepts. A while ago I read a study about classroom affirmations. The study stated that the term, “a good job” neglected to inspire the student to provide more effort. Instead it confirmed that the effort they had given was sufficient . The study recommended that instead of saying “good job” using the phrase, great effort inspired the students to continue to provide good effort as they were challenged to either extend learning or attempt more difficult tasks. I wish I could remember where it was or who the author was but I can’t.

Yes!! I’ve read similar studies and I was surprised at how much I said it. Definitely something I need to work on!

Hi Susan, thank you so much for sending us educating videos and activities. They are so fun and creative. In fact, I am a student who is studying childhood education in university. And, if its possible, can you make a video of what are the powerful writing strategies for kindergarten to grade 2 students.

Great job. As a high school teacher, I'd say students need more exposure to non-fiction texts early on in language arts to build critical thinking skills.

Do you do small groups during your phonics portion of your day or just during literacy centers at the end of the day?
I love how much you can fit in your day! That is my goal for this year as a second year teacher. Time and classroom management.

Thank you, this was very helpful about conferences, and it's always neat to see how the observation process works for teachers in different places. How does your schedule work for conferences? Are you teaching all day and working them in or getting days off to do them?

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  11 месяцев назад +1

We get two half days to do them! So last Thursday and Friday were noon dismissal and each conference was 15 minutes!

I have loved watching your videos. I teach second grade, but still find everything so helpful! So thank you! You are so busy with school and family; I just really appreciate what you do! Do you have any place where you talk about the schedule of your day and how much time is spent on each part? I have such a hard time fitting everything in. And do you have a reading curriculum? That is the hardest part for me. We don't, and it's so overwhelming. Thanks again!

    • @SusanJonesTeaching

It’s so hard to fit it all in - There’s just not enough time in the day!! We don’t have a reading curriculum yet, but we are using the interactive read aloud portion of an older readers workshop curriculum our district had created! Here is my daily schedule:
      8:25-8:40 morning work and play
      8:40-8:50 morning meeting
      8:50-9 Heggerty
      9-9:30 fundations
      9:30-10 recess and snack
      10-10:20 read aloud
10:20-10:50 reading groups and literacy centers
      10:50-11:35 WIN
      11:35-12:15 lunch and recess
      12:15-1:05 math and calendar
      1:05-1:50 specials
      1:50-2:25 writing
      2:25-2:50 science/social studies
      2:50-3 pack up dismissal

Can you share what you use Heggerty for? Is it the Heggerty phonemic Awareness lessons? Do you like it? I teach first grade too, and I use Math in Focus. I'm excited to see your upcoming videos on math. Also, what reading series are you looking into? We are looking at possibly adopting Wonders - McGraw Hill. @@SusanJonesTeaching
