Just changed my heat exchanger tonight. Took about half an hour! Easy!.... I'm glad I got a new one and didn't bother to cleaning the old one. As the new one I got off ebay for £35 was actually about 15mm bigger. So now it'll work more efficient!
Brilliant, that’s exactly what was wrong with ours. For me I had to turn the pressure up as it didn’t seem to bleed correctly, then reduce the pressure in the system and the hot water popped in to life. Thank you for posting
I don't this myself on my worcester 24i junior, replaced heat exchanger .. had my gas safe mate pop by and checked it all , said done well.. cheers for the video!.. got my heat exchanger spar parts on line also.. apparently i saved myself £550 !! that a usual gas engineer would charge..
You have my seal of approval 😂 it's more than what people are prepared to do for themselves, to learn then to do requires attention and thus comes experience. So yes, saved yourself a few hundred there! 😂
The dirty black side is the central heating side. The C/H water is diverted to the secondary heat exchanger plate when the hot water tap is turned on and heat from this dirty C/H water is transferred via the heat plate to heat the Hot water side, but they are separated within the plate and never mix .
Helpful video on how to remove and refit a plate heat exchanger. However I think you misunderstand how the plate heat exchanger works when you said the blocked section was the hot water side, and the clear section was the central heating side. The central heating doesn't actually use the plate heat exchanger. When you run the hot water tap, the water from the boiler's main heat exchanger circulates through the top holes in your plate exchanger, while cold mains water flows through the holes at the bottom. The heat from the water heated by the main heat exchanger is then conveyed by conduction to the mains cold water, heating it instantly. When the hot tap is turned off and the central heating is on , a diverter valve bypasses the plate heat exchanger and sends the hot water from the main heat exchanger to the radiators around your house.
How long of a job is it to take out and clean a heat exchanger? I only ask as a boiler company has called out and said you might as well get a new boiler?

He is not breaking gas regulations. Consumers can take off front decorative hinge panels of a boiler and work on NON gas carrying components (such as ch pump, secondary heat exchangers, non gas seals,) And he is not disturbing combustion process and he is not disturbing any gas supply pipe. If the work could be undertaken without having to break a combustion chamber seal or disturbing any gas carrying component or disturbing a module that controls the combustion process, it would NOT need to be undertaken by a gas safe registered engineer. Gas safe engineers scare people by saying you gonna blow your house down or you will be jailed its time consumers educated and there legal rights. Consumers are getting ripped off.

Correct sir, not all cases are decorative, if a cover has many screws fixing it to the casing it is an integral cover and should only be removed by a gas safe registered engineer, However, some are decorative, like the vaillant ecotech combi boiler only has one knurled screw on the bottom that can be removed with, or without tools. legally anybody (by anybody I mean someone with at least half a brain and a good understanding of whats going to be inside it.) can remove the cover, any competent person can inspect, repair or replace non gas components, like the expansion vessel, prv, or water pump.

The valve you’re talking about is a safety blow off device and if you’ve not installed it correctly you will have instantly voided your home insurance. The plate heat ex also requires live and new washers. Will leak within five mins. To save money, Order new part and pay someone who has liability insurance to instal. You’re mad to do this yourself
I got a quote for £450 fitted for a heat exchanged that coasts £27 brand new with washers so thats why i fitted it myself saving over £400 you work it out thanks for watching and comment
Vokera compacts are the worse ones to get to the heat exchangers! Pump off, condense trap off, half the bleeding boiler pulled apart before xchanger can be removed! Poor design!
When your hiring a professional to do the job. You're paying for their experience training and overhead costs such as public liability, tools, training, van insurance etc. Most importantly safety. Meh 🤷♂️ you save a few quid. However there's the possibility you end up killing yourself along with others. Reg 26.9 is always our code of practice. I sleep easy at night knowing I've left a customers house safe. The diy jobs I've encountered make make me cringe. A reputable heating engineer with would have charged between £90-150 to sort that. Without a proper chemical flush this boiler is going to be overcompensating to heat the plate to plate. Thus using extra gas.

Oh dear, you're wrong about the holes I'm afraid, well done for trying to teach DIY boiler repairs, but please be careful, and try not to encourage novices to repair boilers, there is also risk of electrical shock, water leak damage, gas leak, gas explosion and co poisoning.
Listen mate I pay £157 every year to be registered with gas safe and £800 every 5 years to resit my acs you should be touching the boiler at all if anything goes wrong and someone dies they change rules and regs because of it this is why plumbers charge so much if you want to be a gas engineer go and do your training and for your info just take the PRV out clean it and grease it don’t buy a new one you div you should be reported to gas safe your breaking the law
Under no circumstances should you be touching the boiler if you’re not gas safe registered, also it’s the top channel that’s central heating not hot water. Your advice on the PRV was also incorrect, there’s a reason they open up in the first place and it’s 9/10 got to do with the expansion vessel...but I guess you’d know that if you were qualified to work on it. You are breaking the law.
nope not breaking the law your wrong i an not touching the gas just the water plus i dont give a shit, if you so called plumbers stop sucking air through your teeth and do the job when your asked and stop quoting stupid prices ie £400 to change the heat exchanger that costs £34 quid of ebay then maybe just maybe you wouldent have such a bad reputation for being rip of merchant ps thanks for watching
Get your terminology right for a start that's a dhw plate heat exchanger....not a main heat exchanger a prv is a pressure release valve which is set to open over 3bar to let pressure to the outside safely it is a safety device also remember you idiots who say we charge loads 1 the part cost is materials you are paying for time and pure experience and competency to know the exact workings of a boiler from its combustion process to its heat process our tools cost us hundreds to have specific tools our training took years and we resist exams every 5 years at our own cost and yes to touch the inside of a boiler a combi boiler you have to 1.be gassafe and have acs in boilers and water heaters etc what you are misinformed about is a SYSTEM boiler where the pump ,3 port and vessel all sit externally of the boiler in an airing cupboard idiot
@@MrMeltedwelliesYou need to be gas safe registered and competent to work on a gas boiler, the fact that you don't even know this, and refuse to accept it, proves what a danger you are.
Answer to an Ideal boiler...scrap it and fit a Viessmann. Design fault in heat exchanger...mine lasted 2 years from new. Replacement warranty one year not ten. Ideal will not guarantee their boilers for ten years unless it was fitted from new with their own brand filter. Avoid.
Mark Davies yes you are.. you should not be removing the cover from a gas boiler. Also how will you know If you knocked the gas valve and caused it to leak? Do you know the procedure for checking the gas is tight or the safety checks that need to be carried out after working on any part of a gas boiler? I tell you what, why don’t you call gas safe register to see if you’ve broke the law...
Many appliances have cases, which in addition to being decorative, function as a part of the combustion circuit and form an important seal around the gas carrying components e.g. burner, combustion chamber, gas valve etc. If removing the case involves undoing a number of screws, this normally means it is a functional case and it should not be removed by the consumer or a person who is not Gas Safe registered. For further guidance on whether you can remove the case from your gas appliance: • refer to the manufacturer’s instructions • contact manufacturer’s helpline • visit the manufacturer’s website Remember, whenever having any gas work carried out, always use a Gas Safe registered engineer holding the relevant qualifications for working on your gas appliance. To find or check a Gas Safe registered engineer, go to www.GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call us on 0800 408 5500.

He be doing his own MOT next and posting it 🙈🙈🙈
Dangerous and incorrect advice. What was all that rubbish about air in the bladder of the expansion vessel?
That heat exchange is not £400
The valve you’re talking about is a safety blow off device and if you’ve not installed it correctly you will have instantly voided your home insurance.
The plate heat ex also requires live and new washers.
Will leak within five mins.
To save money,
Order new part and pay someone who has liability insurance to instal.
Plumber charges a fortune because he can do the job legally !
@@rayc1503 unfortunately, after calling 7 plumbers in a week, 5 did not turn up, 1 turned up, gave it a good stare and left, 1 emergency plumber visit, did a service but still problem remained. ordered part for him to come back next day, no show on that one. now on 8th plumber who says he won't let me down. not overly enthused with optimism that he will turn up but if he doesn't then DIY is the only way.
@@minimad8793It's not a job for a plumber, this is a job for a gas safe registered heating engineer.
I agree top one is ch bottom cold feed.....shouldn’t be doing as not competent to work on a boiler .....if you disturb Gas supply and didn’t carry out 26/ 9 checks after taking off any combustion case in event of incident you will be prosecuted .....also house insurance will be nil and void . Get a Gas safe engineer ........
Novice people tinkering with boilers. Your giving bad advice. God forbid anyone trying this knocks or disturbs the gas valve. I'd feel uneasy if I knew they were doing this as my neighbours. Please be careful if you feel the need to do this yourself. If you cause an explosion or death. You'll serve a jail term. A Gas safe registered installer has been through extensive training. We know what we're doing (99% of us that is)
mate you just saved my old man, having snow, that what we thought it was, ten we get the bill or a heat plate exchanger, il dlike to hlpe, do you run a business or anything im based in portsmouth and build websites and youtube ads etc. if there anything i can do for putting the video up , let me know :)
Oh dear, you're wrong about the holes I'm afraid, well done for trying to teach DIY boiler repairs, but please be careful, and try not to encourage novices to repair boilers, there is also risk of electrical shock, water leak damage, gas leak, gas explosion and co poisoning.
Unless you are competent and gas safe registered DO NOT touch a gas boiler. You are breaking the law. And can be sent to prison.
did not touch gas and there is no such thing as the boiler police thanks for watching
You are wrong on this, watch the video of what is being shown and if not understood ask before stating opinion as fact
Does this person not realise that it is a criminal offence to fiddle with your boiler if you are not a gas safe engineer.
Sorry Buddy. You did not clean the heat exchanger? plue this is all above your paygrade, and your house insurance nulenvoid. :(
Listen mate I pay £157 every year to be registered with gas safe and £800 every 5 years to resit my acs you should be touching the boiler at all if anything goes wrong and someone dies they change rules and regs because of it this is why plumbers charge so much if you want to be a gas engineer go and do your training and for your info just take the PRV out clean it and grease it don’t buy a new one you div you should be reported to gas safe your breaking the law
Avoid.
Horrendous video.
If you are not a gas engineer you shouldn’t be taking the boiler case off.. you’re breaking the law.
No i am not breaking the law i am not touching the gas plus its MY boiler
For further guidance on whether you can remove the case from your gas appliance: • refer to the manufacturer’s instructions
• contact manufacturer’s helpline
• visit the manufacturer’s website
Remember, whenever having any gas work carried out, always use a Gas Safe registered engineer holding the relevant qualifications for working on your gas appliance. To find or check a Gas Safe registered engineer, go to www.GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call us on 0800 408 5500.
Hi Darren ok fair play in response were we live we must have the shitest plumbers ever i rang 5 plumbers to come and fix the boiler No hot water No heating at the time we had 4 grandchildren and 4 adults living in the house due to house fire for 4 weeks no one turns up this is in the middle of winter so you can probable guess i was a bit pissed off ,my videos show how i TRIED TO FIX the problem not a guide to others plus i do have a mate who is gas safe

@@MrMeltedwellies it doesn't matter who's boiler it is, you sound like a child
What you do for a living then. Sure it’s as easy as spending four years training in plumbing and Gas then you have to o arm breakdowns over time. Sure your jobs easy too
