This is the best sea monkey tank I’ve ever seen! You have just convinced me to start a tank again. Haven’t had one since I was in the army in my 20s! It was the only pet we could have in the barracks!😆
Thank you! I hope you enjoy your new pets. And thank you for serving!
You weren’t in the army, and there is a low chance you are 20
@@SirAlienGaming bro thinks he knows him 💀
I wonder if prison inmates are allowed Sea Monkeys too.
@@SirAlienGamingbro really said I know your life better than you 💀
This tank is a thing of absolute beauty!
I only have room for one little Mars aquarium, but this is like a dream to aspire to!
Thank you!
Wow that’s so awesome! It’s oddly relaxing watching the sea monkeys swim around 😌
first thing I noticed was how "bad ass" the figures looked with algae! nice work
Glad you like them! Thanks!
Yeah, I actually like the "old ruins" appearance of it. Plus, it's good for them.
Wow! This is amazing. Mine never grew as a kid and from time to time I still think about them...which brought me here lol

the Sea-Monkey action figures in the tank are definitely cool
Woah that’s a lot, it’s so cool to see so many doing so well, happy holidays!!! 💫✨🎄
Amazing 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾I want a Bigger tank.. I have an idea can you make a long video, of this tank with Lo-Fi music playing in the background and record the sea monkey swimming around.
Using a lighting system with "Cycles"....other than a Heating Pad, to maintain Tank environment health...
solid gold info ! Also, learning about the algae/bottom gunk, as related to Tank clean up, ALL THIS helps
as a continuing Sea Monkey reveal for raising these babies. Slip these details in, every video.
Super cool. Thanks for the video of your awesome set up.
The action figures add a nice aesthetic.
Even though another channel got me into sea monkeys, your colony is amazing!
Thanks! I have a new big project in the works too!
Do you have a video with step by step guide to set it up for a larger tank? Like 1 gal and bigger? I have a 1.5 that has plants and an empty 10 gal.
I have a video showing how I set up my 16 gallon aquarium. Hopefully that will help.
You have the best tank ever! Love it.
That's an awesome tank! And money well spent on the Sea Monkey Family! I love how they've got algie on them! I'm just starting up and have a packet feed in the kit. If the algie doesn't grow, what do you suggest as a food replacement?
The packet you have should last a long time. When it runs out, I'd purchase more SM brand foods or use spirulina powder.
Thanks for the advice!
Fascinated that there’s no filter, perfect little ecosystem.
So great! They also have the wonderful Action-Figures of the Sea-Monkeys which I would love to own too, unfortunately we don't have them here in German! Greetings from Regensburg, Emilio
We have our first tank of monkeys now! This that you have is SPECTACULAR 🎉🎉I COULD ONLY WISH❤WE HAVE MONKEYS ON MARS❤
those sea monkey figures looks great
Defiantly badass 😀👍
I remember having sea monkeys as a kid and there were 3 stuck together XD I had no idea they were orgying.
Pretty cool!!
First time seeing sea monkey
This is awesome , do u plan on expanding the tank ??
This colony is still thriving! I have another large one now too. I've got plans for one more really big one too.
can you make another video
@@mitchy450 about anything specific? I've got over 300 Sea-Monkey videos.
How many gallons is this tank?? I recently got a tiny DIY tank goin, and the monkeys look soooo much cooler with more space to swim.
This one is 16 gallons.
There are live plants suited for brackish. A live-plant aquascaped 16g brackish tank with sea monkeys would rock, but I also love the 16g algaescape with statuary is awesome. ❤
I'm still in awe of your setup! What kind of aquarium sand did you get? Any specific brand/store? And did you have to rinse it or just used it as is? I have a half gallon tank.
Honestly I don't remember the brand. I did rinse it though. If I had to do it over, I'd skip the sand. It's not serving a purpose.
@@SeaMonkeyDudeJon how do you filter it? I would think a filter would suck them up
@@getatme2573 you're right. I don't filter any of my Sea-Monkey tanks. Filters are death traps for them.
@@SeaMonkeyDudeJon
Yeah I’ve had tanks for years I just didn’t know if you figured out some unique way to give them filtration. I can only imagine after so long with feeding them the tank will get dirty and need cleaned though
I want to create something jsut like this! How do you keep the colony going, do they just multiply themselves or do you need to dry the eggs out first? How does it work?
They reproduce quite a bit!
Nice setup..i raise them to..
There neet..and my fish get some here and there..thank.s for shareing
Very nice tank setup
I sometimes grow sea monkeys in a 5 gallon aquarium to feed to my fish. But the kids love watching them.
Its so relaxing to watch them! They are so cute :3
Love these updates!!!
I bet you if you want Guinness to come and take you seriously you need to make a tank that looks like a giant sea monkeys tank that you bought from the store not just a regular old fish tank but one that has the little magnifying glasses in it and everything. If you made a big one of those with your sea monkeys in it, I bet you they would come.
That might work. I've since had the record verified on Record Setter though. I'm happy with that. 😀
@@SeaMonkeyDudeJon I like it as it is. It’s a nice little microcosm that is bursting with life and probably pretty interesting to sit there and watch a nice little guilty pleasure. But those Guinness book of world records people like recreations be at large or small of the original that’s the only reason I suggested it. Congratulations on your record and keep up the good work.
Thanks so much!
I just found this video after thinking about adverts from when I was kid (UK) and I always remembered sea-monkeys.. sadly never got them though but wow, I had no idea they could be this big or so many of them, this is a whole ecosystem
Glad you like the video! You should definitely get some Sea-Monkeys!
Do u need to change water? Do u need to remove the Dead Sea monkey once in a while? What maintenance need to be done?
No water changes. No removing deceased pets. I scrub the glass free of algae a couple times per month and top off the water once per week. That's about it aside from feeding them.
Wow amazing i startet bevor 2 days have Babys now❤😊
Do you do water changes or partial water changes?
Do you add Indian almond leaves?
I really don't.
@@joannvalencia3459 I'm not familiar with these leaves.
You’re awesome this is amazing
I'm glad you like it! Thanks for watching!
What is the salinity of your water? Thats the best sea monkey tank i have ever seen.
@@TaNkGiRlGiBo I haven't tested it in a couple years. I'm out of town right now, but will check when I get home.
@@SeaMonkeyDudeJon perfect thank you so much. Absolutely stunning tank.
This is so neat! Thanks for sharing
I'm glad you like it!
Would be nice to see a live stream of this.

i hatched my sea monkeys on mars kit a few weeks ago and now they are banging like crazy. i think about 10 hatched today alone.
So cool. Was infatuated with the ads as a kid. I started growing NeoCaridina shrimp a few years ago to fulfill my childhood fantasy as an adult and make a dollar in the process.
I like seeing the big sea monkey statues in there. It's almost like the sea monkeys made big monuments for their civilization.
Like you said, whether it's a waste of money or waste of those action figures, but it's certainly totally makes sense for them to be there and add to the tank
Hell ya haha they are huge!
Can you teach them todo tricks?
They respond to light.
Awesome love the sea monkeys
What happens to all the Sea Monkeys that die? Do they float to the top and you take them out? Do they sink to the bottom and just decay?
They sink to the bottom and eventually turn to dust and become a part of the ecosystem.
Can you buy sea monkey food? Im thinking about getting some sea monkeys but what happens when you run out of the food packet that comes with the box?
You sure can! You can find it at retail stores and online. Sea-Monkeys.com, Hobby Lobby, Amazon, etc.
Sea monkey food can be pricey, even just powdered spirulina (found in most supermarkets) works!
I think that tank is badass nobody has a badass tank like that!!! Nice job!
Thank you!
How do you filter it? Very cool ❤
I don't use a filter at all. Filters can kill the pets and filter out the food particles that they eat.
@@SeaMonkeyDudeJon Ty! I want to set up a little tank but wasn’t sure if I would need to filter it- I have eggs & salt + organic spirulina powder already 😍 would they eat moringa?
wow cool, looks like a sci fi movie going on in there
Fascinating, I've never actually seen algae do pearling before. Didn't think it could create enough oxygen for that. Guess marine algae is a bit more productive in that way. Really encourages me to try and make a more natural ecosystem with these guys some day. Something with a mangrove, proper oceanic substrate, and more complex macroalgaes. Hopefully other simple marine crustaceans too like scuds, mysids, isopods, and micro plankton. and EVERY tank should have at least one kind of snail. Seeing that a simple 2 species tank like this with one producer and one consumer is so well balanced makes me hopeful that a more natural and diverse one will be even easier.
These lil brine shrimp commonly live pretty isolated since they live in an environment that is usually too salty for other species, I know they can survive in lower salinities but I wonder how they would thrive. Would be a cool experiment
What do you use for the bottom? I hear it's not good to use sand or gravel what is your advice?
In this video, you'll notice black sand at the bottom. I've since removed the sand and don't use a substrate at all.
Ah ok thanks for the advice thanks for getting back 🙂 looking to making a setup too 🙂
@@mrhalloween1152 awesome! I'd love to see what you put together!
Some time earlier, you've mentioned only using actual Sea Monkey packets, as opposed to using regular brine shrimp eggs. Why not regular brine shrimp eggs?
Part of it is the nostalgia for the brand. Another part is the incredible customer service I've gotten from their company. Third, they have the formula down. I don't have to worry about measuring salt if I'm using their packets.
So do you clean the tank at all or just add water as it evaporates.
I scrape algae off the sides so I can see them better. That's about it though. I top off the water once a week.
How are your babies able to survive so well? Is it plentiful food and heated water?
Enough food... Not too much. And warm water for sure!
Did you use saltwater substrate for this tank to ensure a high gravity for the water? Asking because im starting my first ever colony but i want to make sure i have enough accurate information
I used black aquarium sand. Other than that, I'm not sure what it was. Got it at the local pet supply store.
@SeaMonkeyDudeJon thank you! I'm on my way to the pet store now :) hopefully they'll have what I need :) I love your channel!!!
@@minxiimayhem6781 thanks for watching! Good luck with your pets!
you know what. i appreciate you
I appreciate you too! Thanks for watching.
So you used 171 packets of both 1 and 2??? Or is my math wrong.
I don't remember the exact number, but it was around there. I probably mention it in a couple of the videos.
They’re thriving! What motivated you to start the largest Sea Monkey colony?
When I get into a hobby, I really get into that hobby. :)
Do they eat each other? Like the big ones eat the smaller ones
@@GrinGottsGBL nope. The males fight sometimes, but they don't eat each other.
Awesome!
Just wondering cause I have aquariums how do you fill up the water my tanks drop quite a lot each week
I just top off with bottled water once per week.
Waste of money!?? What else do people do with it? Looks GREAT!
Thank you!
Oh shut up bing sarcastic
Dang, those are huge. Those are basically double the size of what they got to be when I was a kid (honestly I don't know for a fact that they're smaller, but everything seems bigger as a kid, and these sure seem bigger to me as an adult than my sea monkeys seemed as a kid.
Maybe you didn’t grow them up parents prolly dumbed it before you’d ever see them a year old and fully grown
@@StoneAquatics no, they just never lived past a month or so. I still have no idea what I did wrong there.
Are they freshwater or salt water?
They are saltwater animals.
That’s a awesome colony and all, but the figures covered in algae is just uncanny
Do you have to change the water
Nope! Not necessary.
It’s spectacular!
Thanks!
It's amazing 👏. How can I make more salty water. I have just the amount of water from the mixture o the first kit I bought.
I like using the Sea-Monkey brand packets. Each pair of #1 & #2 is good for 12oz of water.
Aquarium salt also works well as its pure sea salt and found in pretty much all petstores
That colony of Sea Monkeys is amazing, I had one in a 1 liter tank for a couple of years and one day I put a dead coral in the aquarium to decorate, and six hours later they were all dead. I still don't know exactly what the coral did to kill them all :(
So sorry to hear about yours. Hopefully you'll try again.
The dead coral would change the ph quality of the water and they are very sensitive animals to any change.
@@nataliehearse1217 good info, that's probably why they died, I hadn't thought about it
Where do you find the heating pads you put under your smaller tanks I just purchased some sea monkeys and starting my own tanks.
I've gotten them from Pet Supplies Plus and Amazon.
@@SeaMonkeyDudeJon thank you so much I will check with both I am so excited to get my tank up and going I watch your channel a lot and enjoy it very much.
When I was a kid, I got scammed and thought they would look like people 😂😂
Where do they get nutrients?
@@malexmartinez4007 from the food I feed them and algae growing in the tank.
How long you have them and what is their lifespan
This video was from June of last year. The colony started in March of 2022 and I still have it. Feel free to check out my other videos if you want to see how they are doing!
As a kid, i was always interested in sea monkeys, but i never had a chance to get any.
Until now, I never knew how large they could get. I'd assumed they were just little dots that swam around in the water and needed to be looked at through a magnifying glass.
Do you ever have to do water changes on this tank? Or is it good long term with just topoffs?
No water changes. I top it off once a week with bottled distilled or spring water. I also slowly add small amounts of water when I feed them (I mix the powdered food with water).
I'm new to sea monkeys so is that like an indefinite never do water change kinda thing?
@@donovanjones8838 that's correct, unless something goes really wrong.
How do you prevent a buildup of nutrients over time? Sorry if I'm being dumb lol. Does the algae absorb it all?
And thanks so much for your patience and the info!
@@donovanjones8838 can't prevent 100% of it. Algae definitely helps. It feeds on some of the gross stuff. I try to keep as much dust out as possible and not to overfeed.
How many packages for a Gallon?I have a little tank and I want to do a bigger one
Sorry I missed this earlier. I use 11 PAIRS of packets #1 and #2 per gallon of water.
How Many Gallons Is This Tank?
This one is 16 gallons.
Any tips for a pump any links for a pumpsfor the sea monkeys
I have some good ones on this Amazon list. www.amazon.com/shop/sea-monkeydude
Love it!!!
I was wondering: do you think using packet nr.1 and packet nr.2 at the same time gives better results? Maybe because the salinity (is that a word? Sorry not a native english speaker) is at the right level straight away? This tank is absolutely thriving and i'm in awe 😍
I've done them at the same time and also followed the instructions and waited 24 hours. I honestly haven't seen a difference either way.
What do you feed them?😮
Mostly Sea-Monkey brand foods which is mostly algae powder.
@SeaMonkeyDudeJon nice. Thank you. From what I have seen chlorella works better than spirulina.
@@xoelsanchez which brand do you use?
@SeaMonkeyDudeJon an organic spirulina brand that I can't remember the name of. And I grew the chlorella myself from cycled fishtank water. Ocen the chlorella consumes all of the nutrients in the water, it sinks to the bottom where I late collect it and dehydrated.
This is incredible, never seen so many, and please do not clean the figures they look so cool like that and the sea monkeys look so happy!
Thanks so much! Sorry to disappoint, but they are clean now.
@SeaMonkeyDudeJon oh fair play! Your most welcome
@@crazyabouthamsters7710 I may put them back in at some point. The Mom figure is in another aquarium right now.
How do you scrape the glass of algae without crushing some Sea Monkeys?
Very carefully!
What are those creatures?
Sea-Monkeys! They are a breed of brine shrimp. Scientific name is Artemia NYOS.
i wish i could do this, cant for the LIFE of me get any salt water algae to appear in my saltwater test-tubs though, sure can grow a ton of fresh water algae in my 30 gallon aquarium though if i didnt have such a good clean up crew in it
What do they eat?
They eat Sea-Monkey brand powdered food mostly. I also feed them spirulina and live phytoplankton microalgae.
Do you have a heater for this tank? If so what’s the temperature atv
I do. I try to keep it ~79°F.
The thing about Guiness is that it's not a record keeping company but a novelty book company. Usually you have to pay huge amounts of money to them for them to care about your record and to have one of their judges fly out to present you an award. Nice tank, how is it doing 2 years later?
Colony is doing really well! The record has been verified by Record Setter too!
@@SeaMonkeyDudeJon Oh Nicely done!
So cool, my fish (cichlids) would like to pay a visit :)
Now this takes me back 20 years I’m almost 25 😂 now I feel old
What size is that tank
16 gallons
Are they different types of sea monkeys or have they grown to that size because of the size of the tank?
These are regular Sea-Monkey brand brine shrimp pets; Artemia NYOS. They are about the same size as my Sea-Monkeys in other aquariums.
a collector somewhere just had a heart attack
Cool 😎
Does it smell?
@@lukehearne6023 nope!
what did you put in the bottom of tank? gravel type? xx
I used black aquarium sand
Dude my sea monkeys are pests. I got my son a tank which hatched 2 males and a 1 female and they won’t leave the poor gal alone. One of them is always attached to her! Is this normal or should I try to seperate them? I feel bad for her 😂
This is normal behavior. When she gets tired of them, she'll shake them off.
Don't try to separate them; you'll likely hurt them in the process.
@@SeaMonkeyDudeJon thanks! I guess I’ll leave them to it 😂
