now that's what a stratocaster sounds like in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing , one of Lemmo's finest demonstrations , spectacular, from Gilmour to VH , couldn't be two more different players , but perfectly handled , luv the black on black , great look , great sound , a stratomaster , thanks guys.
Long time subscriber. Frequent Norm’s with my little kids, who mostly behave. Today’s GOTD is just built different. Compelled to comment. Cheers, Lemmo. Keep on...
It’s always impressive to just see the real versatility of these amazing guitars brought out by a truly gifted musician. Thank you for taking us all to school, yet again, Mr. Lemmo. Also, Jen brings the magic😀!
Lemmo first of all you’re a great host and a fantastic player so I apologise for being pedantic but that guitar is not what collectors refer to as a Dan Smith Strat it’s a Standard Strat produced from mid 83 to late 84 a budget Strat made to reduce costs Bill Carson referred to it as “The Stratocaster in its worst configuration.” Dan Smith Strats or to give them their correct title “The Smith Strat” were only made for a very short time in 82. Some of the features that guitars referred to as “Dan Smith Strats” have are three control knobs, a vintage style trem, F stamped tuners, truss rod adjustment at the heal and a Black Fender logo with Stratocaster in huge black capitals on the headstock. I’m only pointing this out because here in the U.K. Smith Strats tend to sell for around £1000 more than two knob Standard Strats. If you want to see a Dan Smith Strat in action check out “Big Country - Porrohman (The Tube 17/2/1984) on RUclips, here you can see Stuart Adamson, Big Country’s frontman, playing a “Smith Strat”.
Yes when CBS sold Fender to Bill Schultz’s investment group their Fullerton facility was not included in the deal so from February to October 1985 Fender didn’t produce any guitars in the USA. Fender Japan kept Fender going until they got new premises at Corona and sorted other teething problems out.
@@mrtambourineman6107 I said middle/bridge. But nah man I’m not big on high gain sounds. They’re cool for outros cause they’re badass but other than that I’m just not really drawn to them
The 1983 strat is the reason I am a telecaster person today. Way back when I was 13 my mom took me in to get my first real guitar. (Which I worked for) Took one look at the 2 knobs, output jack, and that funky tremolo system 😢 and settled on a gold bowling ball telecaster. 40 years later, still play teles, still have the 83 tele, and a few strats as well. Post CBS 😊
I bought a black left handed one with white pickguard in 84- i think it was an 83 ½... i was 15, and it was my first high end guitar, worked all summer selling tshirts at the flea market, and then went to sell charts in Sturgis so i could afford this.... i miss it!
I love Norm's, but I wish there was a place to go see this guy outside of a 'guitar of the day' video. So much character in his playing . . . could listen for hours.
Great playing again... That's when fender tired to fix stuff that wasn't wrong with the Stratocaster...that term claw adjustment under the pickups is a nightmare..
Holy smokes mr Lemmo that was a beastly demo for sure ...we thank you and of course Jen (the boss) which with out none of these great GOTD clips would not be possible .... 👍🏻
Wrong about the two knobs being introduced in 81. They were 83 only. The freeflyte trem system is terrible but they are an incredibly well built Strat, exceptionally light and play very well.
i got a black with the white guard too maple neck and finger board, the original; case hard plastic was cracked several spots about 1996 got it a gig bag then a few yrs latter another hard case, I have the tremolo bar too, did he ever say what these are worth now ?? I didn't think of it as vintage it was new when i got it , was going to replace my 69 gretsch but i went back to the gretsch after a few years.
Idk why but I've been on a lemmo binge lol Edit: I just realized my brother has the same model, year, and everything his is just switched out with a Seymour Duncan hot rail in the bridge. It was my dad's brother in law's guitar at first but, he got scared that my dad's sister would kill him if she found out how much he paid for it lol, so he changed the bridge pickup and gave it to my dad and it eventually got passed onto my older brother.
Don’t mind me Lemmo I might borrow some of those licks you played on the middle and bridge if you don’t mind😂😂😂😅😅😅. That’s a pertyy Strat! My favorite color Strat is black with a rosewood fingerboard, tortoise pickguard, and yellow electronics & hardware!
If it hasn't already been said, that is not the original case. Fender cases of that era were rectangular. That looks like a late 1980s or early 1990s Fender case. I'm also surprised you didn't expand on the uniqueness of the bridge on that guitar. I think the tremolo, master tone, and pickguard mounted output jack were all CBS-era cost cutting efforts and not to the benefit of the instrument. The coolest guitars of this era were the "bowling ball" finished ones! This is significant as the end of the CBS era guitars since Fender would be sold in 1985 and US production would not resume until 1986. Excellent demo as always! \m/
Huge Pink Floyd fan , Been waiting for you to go there more ! The Wall, was A Great Album , some time around 1979 / 1980 . Got Hooked on Pink Floyd with the song " Money " from 1973 Album . Always Good to here Pink Floyd PLAYED !
Dude you are so awesome and so inspiring. Thank you for doing these, they make such a huge difference On a side note I would buy the shit out of a guitar only cover album from you I don’t need drums I don’t need bass. Just want to hear how you translate songs to guitar.
Great playing as always Lemmo. Not the original pick guard it would have been white, not the original trem arm and not the original case. Great guitar I have 2 of them.
i got one with maple finger board and white pickguard my original case was a square plastic molded thing it got cracked and the hinges popped loose and was replaced by a gig bag about 1993, since then i got a different hard case, but there are little metal slider buttons on the bottom of them plastic cases I'dd lost them too nice guitars but i don;t think the cases were very good.
Wow, this demo reminds me actually how bad we amateurs are all playing after so many years... Well, hats down Mr. Lemmo, congrats on your playing and incredibly versatile style !!!
Lemmo just gets better and better every time he plays
yes, he has some serious chops.
They are not just NOTES any more, they are EXPRESSIONS...and Lemmo is riding that wave and you feel it. Well done Lemmo 🙌
Lemmo has quickly became one of my favorite guitarists

Lemmo may love jazzmasters, but he was born to play a strat!!!
Just wow 🤗🎶
WHAT THE HELL, LEMMO ???!!!!!! Feeling it today🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ha! Yeah!
He was feeling it today
My fav demo from lemmo yet, the versatility on his playing is soooo strong on this one
Fucking weapon. Man I’d kill to play like that.
Me too dude. Me too.

How can anyone give this the thumbs down ? Lemmo took you through Gilmour to EVH in 5 tones and loops on a Strat you don’t see every day .
Unfortunately, you can always count on a few malcontent turds to try and spread their jealous and general misery.
It’s always impressive to just see the real versatility of these amazing guitars brought out by a truly gifted musician. Thank you for taking us all to school, yet again, Mr. Lemmo. Also, Jen brings the magic😀!
Lemmos is a different beast
I’ve been watching for years and I’ve been waiting for lemmo play Pink Floyd ! Favourite band, great cover Michael !

Just don’t want anybody spending too much on the wrong guitar
@@jimir68 I appreciate that you pointed that out.

damn, Lemmo, that was a hell of a straturday...you were great today!
Sometimes I forget how great of a guitar player Michael really is
Jen, “That was great!” One time, please put Jen on about what it is like to see the Lemmo do his thing daily on the channel. It was great Michael.

That guitar at the start sounded amazing
What an interesting guitar! I don't think I've seen the output be right on the pickguard like that before, at least not in a Strat. Very cool!

Lemmo, I like to see your fingers dancing on the fretboard. Nice fourth song!
No springs on the back! It it a pretty guitar! Awesome video Lemmo and awesome guitar work as usual! Totally enjoyed the video!
