Ever since i knew jake, Everytime i hear people speaking Australian accent i really find it so interesting and always wanting to learn and now i cant stop my self speaking in Australia accent
I am a Japanese and learned English in the school in Japan. But I had stayed in Qld for a half a year . Your pronunciation sounds so natural to me and the one you tried to make a pronunciation like an American sound so fun to me. I never use "r" sounds at the end of those words!
I’ve been living here for 11 years and haven’t noticed that so many words finishes with “ae”, this is the best and easiest pronunciations advice I have ever heard, thank you ! 😊
And the things many people, man and woman, worldwide would do to get a dedicated ultra hardcore fangirl like you ... . (no idea who the ones you referred to are and couldn't care less about them)
I'm actually struggling to understand australian accent. I had my job interview with australian before exactly 3 weeks ago and i didn't get the job, actually not bad for me since that's my first time talking to foreigner/Australian and I'm here to know about and to learn and listen to their pronunciation. I am willing to learn more to understand your accent for self preparation for next Australian job interview
I'm splitting my sides laughing over here... lived in Australia for two years and neva did figure out that how Aussies get their accent is by ending half the words with the /a/ sound and just discovered it, it's true!!! Blew my mind to hear it XD This, and the time I discovered people say 'dahns' for 'dance' but 'ant-sa' for 'answer'. Being educated in BrE I never could figure it out. Thank you so much for this vid, you obviously care a lot about your students and I am forever a fan of the Aussie accent and all the people I knew there:)
The quickest and easiest way to sound an Aussie! The gold standard to learning the Aussie lingo. Even if i dont understand, God blessed you with the most impressive eyes in the world.. just watching you keeps stress away!
I am a non-native English speaker, and even though I was taught a "General American" English accent (people say this does not exist, but for me it still does), now I am starting to like Aussie English more, and I usually spell words with an Australian/British spelling, i.e. 'colour' instead of color, 'favourite' instead of favorite, 'behaviour' instead of behavior, and so on... You are one of the best English teachers around there, mate... Good job!

I find that this works more convincingly if you have a brief pause right before saying the /a/ sound for any multi-syllable words that sound like "ah" or "ay" instead of "aw". For example, "Nature" sounds like "Nate--Cha". And then for words that sound like "aw", you want to do the opposite and say it quick and not stress the break, such as "Water" becoming "Wadd/a/".

More correctly, most Australians say ‘dance’ like the Northern English, the Irish, and maybe the Scottish. Most of what we usually associate with a ‘British accent’ is actually Southern English, from which a great deal of Australian pronunciation descends, but with influences from other parts of the UK. Immigration patterns do help account for pronunciation differences. In parts of southern Australia, the pronuncation will follow contemporary Southern English more closely. This may be due to greater influx of immigrants from Southern England and/or more recent English settlement than elsewhere in the continent. Australian English began sometime before the Victorian Period and kept evolving as more and more immigrants, both forced and willing, came throughout the 19th century, which saw a number of changes to the pronunciations of many words within a two to three generations. Not all of the changes were picked up due to the time of settlement, what was brought over at the time of settlement, and the ability of newer arrivals to impact established local pronunciations. In a sense, Australian English accents and pronunciations, as are most accents and pronunciations throughout the former British Empire, snapshots of the accents and pronunciations of the settlers, modified by adaptations to the physical and social environment over time.
