I have plowed snow in Alaska since 1984. Always used a 7.5 ft straight blade western plow. Very happy with it and l have moved 62 inch snow loads with it, it is a trick.
You could always plow sand I suppose lol. There’s few things more enjoyable that going out in the middle of a blizzard with a warm cup of coffee, heated seats and listening to music/podcasts while plowing your or your friends/family’s property. Maybe I’m a weirdo, but I actually look forwards to it.
Have had a Boss V plow for 7 seasons, no problems so far except replaced the hand controller season 4 (dealer did not charge me for it) and routine maintenance. Very happy with Boss.
Love our 8.6 mvp3. Had it 5 years now. Opt for the thicker cutting edge to last longer. Added factory wings, and omg, almost doubled our productivity! I think their wire harness needs improvement. Doesn't matter what you do, after 3-5 years you get problems and have to jump out of the truck and jiggle the harness as it will loose connection
Personally, I'm a huge fan of the western handheld button controller. I run a Western 7 ft straight blade on my truck and I love how it's smaller and much easier to hit each individual buttons. The Boss V controller looks very nice and easy to handle
jmoff23 it sucks, try one. Boss is much eaiser. And once u get use to a Boss V plow after one storm, youll never wanna use a straight blade again! All the trucks have the 9.2 or 9.4 whatever they call them, we back blade condo driveways with them if skidsteers are behind. U can put the blade in any position to make it work for any situation. I have ran Western plows for 40 years and have had no issues with their customer service. The dealer is the one who supports the plows through Western's warranty department. Most recently we had a ram start leaking on a wide-out that was just out of warranty and they covered the cost of the repair even though it was out of warranty. Just as a side note, in the video you compare the controllers. You should really compare the joystick controller that Western offers as it is a superb controller that we have been using for years. Our guys like both the hand held and the joystick (just a personal choice). Thanks for the review as I found it very interesting.
I've been plowing with a early 60'es Meyers straight blade for 20 years . 1/4 mile to the barn + 1/4 mile road to the back 40 , around the house and years ago some neighbors . After welding and patching the good old Meyers , I retired it and bought a Boss 8'2" XT " V " . Looked at a few brands and decided to buy Boss , very pleased I did , it also keeps the local guys working / welding . :-) Third year in use and I'm impressed ! :-)
I'm so glad I got a Western V! Best investment I've ever made besides the Ferris! We're getting over a foot tonight! The plows gonna clear 103 driveways tomorrow! It might take from 4am-11pm but I'll get it done!
I'm switching to snow ex plows. Same parent company and components as western but no chain lift and has down force for backdragging. Chain lift just doesn't cut it for productivity anymore. 2-3 times as long to clear a driveway simply because you can't get a good scrape in one pass. There are zero advantages to chain lift systems. Totally obsolete. @masonsmowing6592
I have never used a western plow. However i ave used hiniker, and boss. I prefer the boss due to the add ons. Like wings, and the abiity to switch controller options. From joystick to the 5 button. And both are interchangeable.Although there are setbacks to both mounting systems. I only plow parttime for a friends business when he needs more guys for certain jobs. Thanks for the comparison and years of service to keep lots clear.
Great video Stanley. I'm just a homeowner that lives on a 1/10mile private road that me and a neighbor are responsible for. our plow guy was a friend of my neighbor so we were sometimes in the back burner. got sick of paying AND waiting till he decided to get there. recently picked up a new Sierra 3500 dually and figured I'd get into plowing so we don't have to pay $120 per visit AND wait. I went with a 9'2" boss v dxt srainless. hopefully I'll have good luck with it.
I just bought my first boss plow this season. DXT 9.2 stainless. Here in upstate NY we have gotten almost no snow this season to date. But the few times I have used it it has worked well. I had the issue like you stated about it being forced out of scoop. Called Boss and they walked me thru the adjustment that is under the pump cover. I had two other times I had to contact Boss and they seemed like the real cared about my concerns. At one point the offered to replace the lift ram with a smaller diameter one because I wasn't happy with the speed the plow went up. So far happy with my decision so far. Will be purchasing another next season to go on a 1 ton dump, straight blade this time tho.
Add the rubber flaps to the top of your western. It helped me keep things a little neater plowing n stacking lots and roads. Love the videos! Thank you! Also the v and a rear plow is the best plowing system I have ever used! Especially in cul de sacs and tricky spots.
Inalso had the same exact problem with the cutting edges on my western vplow. The western rep was nonspecific to the issue and the company i bought the plow from had no recommendations for a fix. I sold the western and went a blizzard 8110 powetlr plow and found a place in fridley that sells high grade steel cutting edges. Issue solved and productivity is a huge bonus.
Thank you for this excellent video, it is good to know that I am not the only person who has trouble hooking and unhooking a Boss v plow with the pin connect system if the ground is the least bit uneven.
i bought an old 8'2" boss v that has been on a ford, 2 chevs and now a dodge diesel and i couldn't be happier with it. it gave me 0 issues this winter and it saved me hours over my old meyers strait blade.
Had a western for yrs and sold it lastyr pump needed rebuilt or new one but it was over 20yrs old, also don’t have a big enough truck to use it anymore. Lolz just bought a tiny home plow the DK2 8219... went playing with it the passed couple days pushin gravel and dirt trying it out and no bad.... not bad at all... though with the western once my cutting edges were shot I never replaced them, but they held up for over 6yrs plowing driveways and 2 small storage unit lots...
I have a fisher ez v with a 6 button remote. After watching your review on the remotes, I'm glad I have the 6 buttons and not the 9. Push the mode button to lock the wings together and use it like a straight blade. Push the mode button again and the right left button scoops or v's. Hold it for 3 seconds and then each wing operates individually.
I run a Boss V and a Western Spreader, had good luck with both. Western was really good at dealing with control module problem when the spreader was 1 year old (replaced at no charge). And the Boss well it is 5 years old and has never actually had a problem.....
Nice video! I spent over 20 years in the high-lead cable logging industry here in Wa state (unfair comparison), but none the less have used Boss for horrible off road plowing. Normally we'd use very large heavy machinery but now and then if it were less than 12" of snow we'd do it with p/u's. Please keep in mind I have nothing against Western plows as I know nothing about them, in our industry Boss was what everyone used- they were exceptionally durable, even when they got ripped off the front of a p/u by hitting things they were not intended to be used for, lol. Boss is a great product!
You really need to try fisher. I don’t think you would be disappointed. Identical controller to the western but still no push back on the blades and super simple hook up. Also cutting edge seems to last, granted I don’t do as much plowing as you but would love to see you review an fisher xv or xv2.
Great Video. I use SnoWay. The hookup i like, the plugs are awful. Needs constant grease for a good connection. The Storage stand is a nightmare. like plowing with it though. But I only do residential accounts, no commercial.
One of the things I've heard from other people is that if they have a Western plow, but there is a Fisher Dealer really close to them, they just get their parts from Fisher b/c the plows are identical. Pretty much the mounting frames are the only difference
Have been plowing residential for the past 20 years and have a western Ultramount, a western unimount (isarmatic III) and an 8 ft snow dog (all straight blades) . I have never seen a use for a v-blade doing residential. They're way more costly, both in the initial purchase, and maintenance department. My unimount western is over 30 years old and is still plowing snow (although the truck it's mounted on is no longer road worthy). Have had no problems with western service, although my snow dog dealer has closed up shop, so keeping my fingers crossed. By far, my western ultramount has the best attachment system. The snow Dogg is extremely difficult to line up and mount when on anything but a perfectly level and hard surface. The western unimount is the best for pushing up the snow (critical when snow starts stacking up in november, and doesn't stop till the next april). All blades have grassbars on the cutting edge, so matt buildup is a fact of life, especially when doing residential exclusively. If i had one wish for an innovation in plowing, it would have to be a wifi (or similar ) controller, The only wire passing from the engine compartment , to the plow unit would be 12v dc power , using a ruggedized military screwlock connector. The bulk of the problems I've had over the years has been with the worthless plugin style connectors. These plugs disconnect while plowing, they get snow in them causing opens, they're very costly to replace and none of the manufacturers are any better than the others at making a bulletproof connector. A wireless Operators controller , and wireless control board inside the plow hydraulics/electrical boxes, could eliminate the need for costly downtime, diagnostics and replacement parts. I've used most of the plow brands out there and will stick with Western.
cutting edge on my Western plow has been replaced 2 x's in 6 years. I only plow my farm but i have about five miles of road. The gauge and the quality of the steel is the reason.
We've run western, Meyer, boss...it seems no matter what plow we use it depends on hours used, maintenance and operator. I had an old cable style western that I used for years.. I could fix or adjust everything on site. Had a guy use it once and broke the controller and knocked it out of adjustment then overheated truck and cracked a head...i have a new wide out this year which is great. The Myers had coupler issues which would lock up the hydraulics...just because of the ultra mount I would never get anything else. As far as support goes... Lol.. You break it you buy it...thank you very much. My personal favorite honestly is the 8 foot Protech on the skidsteer. No if only I can mount that on the truck... Maybe next year... Thanks Stan!
another nice thing with the westerns is I can use any one of my 3 plows on any one of the trucks , very nice and a big reason why I try to have all the same stuff
I've had fairly good luck with customer service through Boss. When I've called directly to the manufacturer, they've always done their best to be helpful. Also, it usually takes some pretty wet and heavy snow for my Boss vplow wings to retract under forward pressure. If it's dry fluffy snow, never a problem with the plow staying in scoop, unless you come into contact with an obstacle of course.
I've never used a v-plow before but my boss strait blade works like a charm. I Have never had to replace anything on the plow for as long as i have been using it, and i have 2.
My boss has a boss v plow and we have moved small cars with it. And the going from v to scoop mood is smooth and never had the wings push back into v mood.
This is a really good video. I sell and service BOSS and have virtually no competition from other manufactures. However I do like to know what else is available. I service a lot of older Western plows and the few times I've called Western for tech support I've gotten no where. BOSS is hands down the best for tech support. They don't have dedicated tech support agents for dealers/installers. All calls are answered promptly and professionally whether you're a owner or dealer. The agents are very product oriented and knowledgeable. I am obviously biased when it comes to the product I sell but Western puts out a good product and this video will help me answer customers' questions.
Hi maybe you can help me . I just purchased a boss htx plow for my 2015 f150.XLT/ It HAS THE 5.0 BUT IT DOES NOT have the plow prep kit. I was under the impression when I purchased the truck that I could get it later. Now that I have the plow I called the dealer about the kit. They think it only came from factory and can not be added later. The shop I bought the plow from said I do not need the kit to run the plow. My truck is not overloaded with options. My question is what should I hook up to, to power the plow?
Kelly Johnson I don't think i understand your question, you always hook up to your battery to power the plow/solenoid. you shouldn't need the plow prep kit to install the plow.
Kelly Johnson first check under the driver side dash for blunt cut wires, on the super duties there is a label which identifies those wires, usually the violet wire is switched 12v. however, they may not be present on a 150. you'd have to probe fuses (one 15+ amps) in the passenger side kick panel. once you find one that is ignition switched, use the BOSS supplied fuse tap and you're good to go. you may have to extend that black/red wire in the BOSS harness to reach the passenger side.
Good review as usual. But might I suggest you upgrade to carbide cutting edges on your plows? Looks like you plow alot of asphalt, regular carbon steel cutting edges really don't last very long with that kind of work. I'm a former DPW worker and have plowed alot of snow myself. We made the switch and the difference in longevity can't be overstated.
Love my boss dxt. The drive in hook up can sometimes be the pain but love the smart hitch setup. So easy. I don't like the spring return on the v's but other than that is been great. Haven't had a problem with customer service. One reason I bought my boss was because local dealer always made it seem like I was inconvincing them and were rude when I would call them for something.

i had a 8 foot straight blade western on my old 250 superduty years ago and i was great..i liked the hook up system..was very forgiving.. i know they do not make them anymore but now i have an older diamond 8 foot blade....very well built..has meyer hydraulics.

Hey Stan, I'm up in Ontario. I run western and have for 12 years. Something is off for your new MP3's to wear down the cutting edge's so quick. I'll get 3 years out of a cutting edge putting min 250 hr per year. That said the poly edges wear super quick on my wideout..but they have come down in cost. The old pivot bar on the old mpv blades has busted on me before but the newer one on my wideout is fine after 4 hard years. I run a 7 year old 9.5mvp and 4 year old wideout. I do find I blow lines often in the wideout. I did own a boss once, never put it on my truck...decided to get the 9.5 mvp instead and sold the boss. Cool story, I bought the boss from Mike Holmes.
I have used Western & Currently Use Boss Plows and also have a Hiniker. I can honestly say Hiniker for us, has the best controller we have used. IMO--the best plow I have used. Have not tested wings, would love to add those to our fleet. I love the look of the Western & have not used the newer version before.
Great video! I use to run boss rt-3's for the people I bought my unimount v (with truck) from. Several years in and I'm finally getting the western going. They were rigbt, westerns are a pain to work on but man the smoothness with which they operate and clear snow beats boss. I for one am for the western controller for even though it has more buttons, each button is a short cut to a boss operation that requires playing with 2 buttons. I.e. you want full left or right on a boss you have to hold both left and right but the western has one button to move both wings in unison in either direction
I have two western 9.6 MVP plus, one is 13 yrs old and still has the original cutting edge, it's wore out now, I have a replacement on the shelf. The newer (now two seasons old) Has worn faster, and I have had to adjust shoe height to keep it cutting good... It is wearing faster than the old plow.. As far as the controller... I like it, and I know what you mean with the double tap or extended hold on down to go to float... I seldom look at my controller, after so many years at it, it's natural to me in my left hand... Training a new plow operator (never plowed before) this season, he persistently holds the controller in his right hand, I have told him wrong hand ( my feeling).... I find left leaves the right hand available to run the truck... VIDEO SUGGESTION Stanley.... I've been running a boss power v since 2005. I've actually never had one single problem other than bad headlights and some wiring grounds going bad that I re did this year. I absolutely love the boss controller with 5 buttons. My cutting edge hasn't even wore down yet and I used it everyday for a year straight plowing parking lots. I will stick with boss for as long as I plow
I have ran Boss plows since 1999 the only trouble I have had with the V blade is I do brake the v at the bottom when people get to ruff, very little problems with the v coming back when full of snow, they work real well and I have two good dealers I use I have both of there cell numbers if I need parts in a storm, I do keep a spare blade, and a lot of parts I am 1.5 hrs from the closes dealer, also you should of showed the joy stick controller for boss much betterThanks for the video
I have a western unimount mvp plow and I have to put it on and leave it on all winter because it’s so much trouble putting it on my truck I’m 71 years old I have so much trouble getting it lined up for the upper pins that holds the lights up works great but pain to hook it up must be a better way. Ultra mount looks so much easier
we Run western wide out plows on two trucks and love them, I have good dealer support and repairs when needed, we own a v blade western also, Go Western...
Boss dealers and tech support are great, had a small issue with new l.e.d lights which beat everyone right now, the two head engineers at boss came down to see what was going on and are working with me to correct the problem.
I have only used Boss and its been a great plow. The smart hitch system can be a bit of a pain, like you said it has to be dead to nuts perfect lining it up, but you get used to it over time. Love the controller, simple 3 button. That Western controller, no thanks! I would like to try a scoop plow like that Hiniker.
I actually thought I commented on this last year when I was having issues with my western plow. My first truck was a fully hydraulic old setup on a square body chevy truck. It was a old fisher setup, and was a tank. I then picked up a newer 2000 silverado and put a curtis plow on it. Not much out there on curtis plows, but that plow was a BEAST. When it worked, it worked fantastic. when it failed, it failed badly. Parts were hard to come by, but in all honesty, in 8 years, it only failed twice, and both times could have been avoided had I done a little more preventative maintenance on it. My current plow setup is a western on my newer silverado. In all honesty, I was ready to pull the plow off of my truck and lite it on fire last winter. I went to a local company for support, as to diagnose it, you need the diagnostic harness, which if you can find one on line is useful! otherwise, you're stuck going to a dealer. This guy at first was very helpful, but then once it was still broken, his employee's were not so very helpful. In fact, I was told that I should diagnose it myself, because i'm too small to waste time on. I then contacted western plows on facebook of all things, and within a day I had a response, and a number to call. I spoke with a executive who then told me to call that local dealer one more time for an appointment, and if they jerked me around anymore to let him know, and he'd take care of it. Needless to day, it was taken care of. Shouldn't have gone to that level, but it is what it is. The plow itself works well, but as soon as I can afford to, i'm looking to replace it with something else.

No, but i'm not very far from Mass. I live just west of Albany, NY. When I had that curtis plow, I was dealing a lot with a dealer in queensbury NY, just north of Lake George.
Have been running a Boss V-Plow since 99. Best plow I've had. Have had Western and Meyer. Had to replace motors on the Western and Meyer almost every two years no matter what I did to protect them. Bought my Boss V-plow in 1999. Replaced the Boss motor after 10 years of hard use. Hookup on the Boss is very easy. Just as easy as western. Boss beats them hands down. Have been plowing for 38 years.
I've had great customer-service for my Boss plow. Both at the local dealership and the HQ. I can just call and talk to a real person pretty much anytime. The last time I called about a hydraulic issue the woman at the HQ conferenced me in with two local dealers. It was great having all those people communicating with me to help solve the problem. So far as chaining a plow up goes. I've never had a catastrophic failure of my hydraulics. However I did get water into my reservoir once and got caught in the field w/o enough fluid. I always carry heavy ratchet straps with me and I used those to both lift and secure the blade up and get it back to the shop for repair. Driving the plow up a snow bank in full float didn't occur to me. But I don't think I want to be standing in a snow bank while I secure the blade in the up position either.
By far i love the boss controller and blade! Very responsive and easy to run one handed, i also ran a hinkier v plow in my freinds f-450, honestly the controller was a bit difficult to use but you get used to it after a while.
like the western ran a 8' straight for years never ran the boss but here good things and would try one. Meyers are cheap but will get you started. go to a steel shop and get your wear bars cut better steel last way longer can drill holes yourself use lots of wd 40 when drilling cuts better
I've ran Fisher, Western, Meyer, Arctic, Snow Way and Boss. Installed most of them too. By far my favorite attachment system and controller are on the 1989 Boss RT1 V plow I have on my 92 Cummins Dodge. The attachment system is rediculiously simple and you don't have to be even remotely close to lined up. Hang the plow off the chain and swing it into the v shaped recievers and drop in the pins. Controller is 3 3 position rockers. Up/hold/down(clicks into down for float) each wing has its own rocker, in/hold/out, spring loaded to hold. I have ran Boss's handheld and joystick, and most other V-plow controllers, but when it comes down to it I prefer the simplicity of my ancient junk. The hydraulics seem stronger and the plow itself is quite a bit heavier than the newer stuff. Not going to recommend everyone go out and get one, they are ancient and so are the trucks that they attach to. Parts are getting to be few and far between as well.
Have used both, I think the western method of attachment is hemroidal, and the chain lift doesn't allow for nearly as much float. Probably fine for parking lots. I do like western trip edge, the only thing it's got going for it. Boss all the way.
I have been running a western pro+ for about 4 years and live the ultra mount stystem. It hooks up fast and it doesn’t hang all the way to the ground like the hook bar for the boss. On a side note back when I lived in Anchorage those guys swore by western, Myers and fisher plows. Not sure what has happened with the Myers plows that they are getting so much hate on here but something must have changed in the last 15 years
I use a Hinker 7.5 foot str8 Blade. I Live in Central Wisconsin and we get a lot of Snow. It works very well on a 1997 Ford f-150 with 5.4 Triton. My Hiniker has worked well. Just flushed out the whole Hydraulic system and replaced the fluids with -50 Good oil. Hinker is on and off My Truck in two mins or less. It has been a cold cold year and no snow. Parts very easy to get and ram's are very to repack on my Hiniker. No Complaints at all. But if I had my choice it would be a Boss V on a Short Box Chevy. Best plow i had was a Str8 Western on a Bronco. Plowed like a Beast.
western pluses: stack height, controller easier to use, has pivot bar (for easy unlevel ground hookup), and security code system. also the carrier hardware on front end doesn't hang down as far. mine is even with bottom of front end bumper facia.....just my opinion.

folks when your wings break away is a good thing. If you hit something you can't see on a boss your wing just collapses. It doesn't blow a hose or bend a cylinder. I push piles of snow taller than the hood of a super duty ford and it has never caused the wings to fail.
Awesome video Stan. That's too bad about westerns service. I love my Fisher and their customer service has been great. They own western so that's crazy they have such horrible customer service! Hard to believe the cutting edge wore down that fast as well I hope you have better luck with them in the future. Keep up the phenomenal videos!
I can not comment on Western as I own a Boss straight blade. I had issues with the valve that allows you to mount it. I called Boss customer service and they were great, they spent so much time with me helping me diagnose the problem. I would probably stick with Boss just for that reason. And this was a 10 year old plow.
Barrington NH Plower, the boss pin connection from truck to plow is the worst. I took a truck/plow back to the dealer twice for this problem. The pins bend and won"t line up. They said they didn't have a fix. I wanted my money back, They said no can do. I wish a had gotten a fisher.
Oh and western service and sucks I called 5 dealer and parts places and all closed on a Friday before 430. And a snow storm coming. I have a boss dealer in my town. If the snow is flying he is at his shop for us. So we can keep on pushing.
How do these plows react when extended forward and then strike a hidden obstacle at higher speeds? We plow roads with cut banks & it is easy to catch the bank or other hidden stump, rock, etc. I only have experience with Meyers, & as a fill in plow guy(so very little experience)... But with this plow when I catch a rock etc. , it just blows the hydrolic line. Is this something that would be universal? Looking to purchase new plow for next year, so just curious. Most of the people, including the dealer I buy from said the Fisher XLS (same as the wideout) has way too many durability issues. Employees seem to love using them, owners don't seem to like the on going expense.
+David G xls and wideout are similar not identical, wideout is trip blade, xls is trip edge. As far as durability, I bought my wideout new in 09. I do ton of commercial plowing and as of now I only ever blew one hose that should've been changed before the storm. I had it in my truck and was back going in minutes. That's the only "issue" I've had. But as with anything preventative maintenance is everything to making equipment last and not let you down.
I never understood the whole trip blade, unless you are plowing a road that was just bombed. Some people like them, some people hate them but when a reputable Fisher dealer says, don't buy one, they are a headache, I take notice.
+David G I have plowed with both but only own trip blades(not because I have anything against trip edge), but I've found they peel up packed snow better at least for me. Once they bite in the springs load a bit it scrapes clean to pavement. I don't know why a dealer would tell you a trip blade is bad. Most of all of the state plows are trip blades. At least here.
Although I have no direct experience with V plows, springs wear out from use not being extended for long periods of time. Its the action of being opened closed that wears them out. Its a common misconception with firearms that leaving a pistol on the cocked position will wear the spring out. Perhaps I misunderstood what you were saying about springs wearing out on the Boss.
Dirt I grew up in the town Boss Plows are manufactured. I know a number of people who work there including Foreman's. If you have any customer service issues let me know and I can get word across and maybe get something done there.
I've plowed for 40 years and love my Western plows.Had 1 Meier(junk) 1 Fisher(junk) but my Westerns always work great.My friend has had Boss and nothing but problems for the last 20 years.It seems that Boss is always changing their design. We once spent 4 hours trying to attach his Boss with jacks,pry bars come alongs and torches. He goes through seals and solenoids like crazy.This happened on 5 different brand new Boss plows on 5 different brand new trucks.He finally bought a used Western that we retrofitted to his Ford from a Chevy and it works great.I would not even recommend a Boss to competing contractors 'cause I'm a nice guy.
Finally talked him back into a Western-now we can interchange plows.His Boss dealer was an IDIOT!!! Tried to tell me Westerns were junk.I shut him up when I asked why Boss changes their design every couple of years.
hey stanley just a quick question! since you been plowing for years i need your expert advice! i been plowing for 3 years using my buddy western unmount truck! this year i got my own truck and was shopping for a plow! now I'm stuck between a boss dxt a western mvp3 and the western wideout! i will be doing mostly driveways and couple small to medium size lots? I seen this video and aware of the comparisons but with the boss dxt i know it has a dual trip system as the western only has a trip edge system! in this video it seems like you are ok with the mvp3 but in another video u said u didn't like the mvp3! any input would be gladly appreciated
I have always used western I love them they are the best to hook up and operate very well to me but I own 3 of them so I think they do the best job I think everyone is going b to be biased to what they have
Hey Stanley it'sPatrick, I'm really enjoying watching your youtube videos, they're fun to watch but on the flip side, they're very useful, last winter I had the opportunity to use three different snowplows the boss EXT snowplow and the western WIDEOUT snowplow, each plow had its pros and cons the boss had the SL3 L.E.D headlights with the ice shield technology, the ONLY thing I disliked was the snowplow mounting, and when I had the chance to use the western WIDEOUT snowplow it made big jobs really easy, I liked the ultra mount system, it was fast and very easy to hook up the plow to the truck, the ONLY two things I disliked about the western was 1-the plow cutting edge didn't last no time and the handheld control SUCKED because of the tiny buttons other than those two issues hands down I preferred the western snowplow over the boss, I almost forgot the boss plow at times froze up plowing snow and when it froze up it was in the transport position and the western wideout did not. good job on the videos and keep them coming Patrick
I have plowed snow in Alaska since 1984. Always used a 7.5 ft straight blade western plow. Very happy with it and l have moved 62 inch snow loads with it, it is a trick.
Do you have any advice for beginner plow operators? I’m gonna give it a try this season

I have a BOSS 8'2" Power V. Their customer service has been excellent. Very knowledgeable and helpful when I needed parts.
Have had a Boss V plow for 7 seasons, no problems so far except replaced the hand controller season 4 (dealer did not charge me for it) and routine maintenance. Very happy with Boss.
Love our 8.6 mvp3. Had it 5 years now. Opt for the thicker cutting edge to last longer. Added factory wings, and omg, almost doubled our productivity! I think their wire harness needs improvement. Doesn't matter what you do, after 3-5 years you get problems and have to jump out of the truck and jiggle the harness as it will loose connection
Personally, I'm a huge fan of the western handheld button controller. I run a Western 7 ft straight blade on my truck and I love how it's smaller and much easier to hit each individual buttons. The Boss V controller looks very nice and easy to handle

jmoff23 it sucks, try one. Boss is much eaiser. And once u get use to a Boss V plow after one storm, youll never wanna use a straight blade again! All the trucks have the 9.2 or 9.4 whatever they call them, we back blade condo driveways with them if skidsteers are behind. U can put the blade in any position to make it work for any situation. I have ran Western plows for 40 years and have had no issues with their customer service. The dealer is the one who supports the plows through Western's warranty department. Most recently we had a ram start leaking on a wide-out that was just out of warranty and they covered the cost of the repair even though it was out of warranty. Just as a side note, in the video you compare the controllers. You should really compare the joystick controller that Western offers as it is a superb controller that we have been using for years. Our guys like both the hand held and the joystick (just a personal choice). Thanks for the review as I found it very interesting.
I've been plowing with a early 60'es Meyers straight blade for 20 years . 1/4 mile to the barn + 1/4 mile road to the back 40 , around the house and years ago some neighbors . After welding and patching the good old Meyers , I retired it and bought a Boss 8'2" XT " V " . Looked at a few brands and decided to buy Boss , very pleased I did , it also keeps the local guys working / welding . :-)

I'm switching to snow ex plows. Same parent company and components as western but no chain lift and has down force for backdragging. Chain lift just doesn't cut it for productivity anymore. 2-3 times as long to clear a driveway simply because you can't get a good scrape in one pass. There are zero advantages to chain lift systems. Totally obsolete. @masonsmowing6592
I have never used a western plow. However i ave used hiniker, and boss. I prefer the boss due to the add ons. Like wings, and the abiity to switch controller options. From joystick to the 5 button. And both are interchangeable.Although there are setbacks to both mounting systems. I only plow parttime for a friends business when he needs more guys for certain jobs. Thanks for the comparison and years of service to keep lots clear.

I'm just a homeowner that lives on a 1/10mile private road that me and a neighbor are responsible for. our plow guy was a friend of my neighbor so we were sometimes in the back burner. got sick of paying AND waiting till he decided to get there. recently picked up a new Sierra 3500 dually and figured I'd get into plowing so we don't have to pay $120 per visit AND wait.
I went with a 9'2" boss v dxt srainless. hopefully I'll have good luck with it.
I just bought my first boss plow this season. DXT 9.2 stainless. Here in upstate NY we have gotten almost no snow this season to date. But the few times I have used it it has worked well. I had the issue like you stated about it being forced out of scoop. Called Boss and they walked me thru the adjustment that is under the pump cover. I had two other times I had to contact Boss and they seemed like the real cared about my concerns. At one point the offered to replace the lift ram with a smaller diameter one because I wasn't happy with the speed the plow went up. So far happy with my decision so far. Will be purchasing another next season to go on a 1 ton dump, straight blade this time tho.

I have a Western wide out for 5 years I really love it. So far I never had no problems with it.
Add the rubber flaps to the top of your western. It helped me keep things a little neater plowing n stacking lots and roads. Love the videos! Thank you! Also the v and a rear plow is the best plowing system I have ever used! Especially in cul de sacs and tricky spots.

Boss snow plows started in iron mountain mi about 2 hrs from me. I have driven by where they are made.
Inalso had the same exact problem with the cutting edges on my western vplow. The western rep was nonspecific to the issue and the company i bought the plow from had no recommendations for a fix. I sold the western and went a blizzard 8110 powetlr plow and found a place in fridley that sells high grade steel cutting edges. Issue solved and productivity is a huge bonus.
Thank you for this excellent video, it is good to know that I am not the only person who has trouble hooking and unhooking a Boss v plow with the pin connect system if the ground is the least bit uneven.
i bought an old 8'2" boss v that has been on a ford, 2 chevs and now a dodge diesel and i couldn't be happier with it. it gave me 0 issues this winter and it saved me hours over my old meyers strait blade.

Had a western for yrs and sold it lastyr pump needed rebuilt or new one but it was over 20yrs old, also don’t have a big enough truck to use it anymore. Lolz just bought a tiny home plow the DK2 8219... went playing with it the passed couple days pushin gravel and dirt trying it out and no bad.... not bad at all... though with the western once my cutting edges were shot I never replaced them, but they held up for over 6yrs plowing driveways and 2 small storage unit lots...
I have a fisher ez v with a 6 button remote. After watching your review on the remotes, I'm glad I have the 6 buttons and not the 9. Push the mode button to lock the wings together and use it like a straight blade. Push the mode button again and the right left button scoops or v's. Hold it for 3 seconds and then each wing operates individually.
Yeah, no way am I gonna push mode buttons every time I wanna do something different with my blade. Joystick allllll the way.
I run a Boss V and a Western Spreader, had good luck with both. Western was really good at dealing with control module problem when the spreader was 1 year old (replaced at no charge). And the Boss well it is 5 years old and has never actually had a problem.....

Nice video! I spent over 20 years in the high-lead cable logging industry here in Wa state (unfair comparison), but none the less have used Boss for horrible off road plowing. Normally we'd use very large heavy machinery but now and then if it were less than 12" of snow we'd do it with p/u's. Please keep in mind I have nothing against Western plows as I know nothing about them, in our industry Boss was what everyone used- they were exceptionally durable, even when they got ripped off the front of a p/u by hitting things they were not intended to be used for, lol. Boss is a great product!
You really need to try fisher. I don’t think you would be disappointed. Identical controller to the western but still no push back on the blades and super simple hook up. Also cutting edge seems to last, granted I don’t do as much plowing as you but would love to see you review an fisher xv or xv2.
Great Video. I use SnoWay. The hookup i like, the plugs are awful. Needs constant grease for a good connection. The Storage stand is a nightmare. like plowing with it though. But I only do residential accounts, no commercial.

One of the things I've heard from other people is that if they have a Western plow, but there is a Fisher Dealer really close to them, they just get their parts from Fisher b/c the plows are identical. Pretty much the mounting frames are the only difference
Have been plowing residential for the past 20 years and have a western Ultramount, a western unimount (isarmatic III) and an 8 ft snow dog (all straight blades) . I have never seen a use for a v-blade doing residential. They're way more costly, both in the initial purchase, and maintenance department. My unimount western is over 30 years old and is still plowing snow (although the truck it's mounted on is no longer road worthy). Have had no problems with western service, although my snow dog dealer has closed up shop, so keeping my fingers crossed. By far, my western ultramount has the best attachment system. The snow Dogg is extremely difficult to line up and mount when on anything but a perfectly level and hard surface. The western unimount is the best for pushing up the snow (critical when snow starts stacking up in november, and doesn't stop till the next april). All blades have grassbars on the cutting edge, so matt buildup is a fact of life, especially when doing residential exclusively. If i had one wish for an innovation in plowing, it would have to be a wifi (or similar ) controller, The only wire passing from the engine compartment , to the plow unit would be 12v dc power , using a ruggedized military screwlock connector. The bulk of the problems I've had over the years has been with the worthless plugin style connectors. These plugs disconnect while plowing, they get snow in them causing opens, they're very costly to replace and none of the manufacturers are any better than the others at making a bulletproof connector. A wireless Operators controller , and wireless control board inside the plow hydraulics/electrical boxes, could eliminate the need for costly downtime, diagnostics and replacement parts. I've used most of the plow brands out there and will stick with Western.

cutting edge on my Western plow has been replaced 2 x's in 6 years. I only plow my farm but i have about five miles of road. The gauge and the quality of the steel is the reason.

We've run western, Meyer, boss...it seems no matter what plow we use it depends on hours used, maintenance and operator. I had an old cable style western that I used for years.. I could fix or adjust everything on site. Had a guy use it once and broke the controller and knocked it out of adjustment then overheated truck and cracked a head...i have a new wide out this year which is great. The Myers had coupler issues which would lock up the hydraulics...just because of the ultra mount I would never get anything else. As far as support goes... Lol.. You break it you buy it...thank you very much. My personal favorite honestly is the 8 foot Protech on the skidsteer. No if only I can mount that on the truck... Maybe next year... Thanks Stan!

My dad has a old western isarmatic mk3 and that thing is great , with basic maintenance it’s an amazing plow

I've had fairly good luck with customer service through Boss. When I've called directly to the manufacturer, they've always done their best to be helpful. Also, it usually takes some pretty wet and heavy snow for my Boss vplow wings to retract under forward pressure. If it's dry fluffy snow, never a problem with the plow staying in scoop, unless you come into contact with an obstacle of course.
Artic snow plow! This is all you see up North in Canada where it really snows.
I've never used a v-plow before but my boss strait blade works like a charm. I Have never had to replace anything on the plow for as long as i have been using it, and i have 2.

My boss has a boss v plow and we have moved small cars with it. And the going from v to scoop mood is smooth and never had the wings push back into v mood.

This is a really good video. I sell and service BOSS and have virtually no competition from other manufactures. However I do like to know what else is available. I service a lot of older Western plows and the few times I've called Western for tech support I've gotten no where. BOSS is hands down the best for tech support. They don't have dedicated tech support agents for dealers/installers. All calls are answered promptly and professionally whether you're a owner or dealer. The agents are very product oriented and knowledgeable. I am obviously biased when it comes to the product I sell but Western puts out a good product and this video will help me answer customers' questions.
Hi maybe you can help me . I just purchased a boss htx plow for my 2015 f150.XLT/ It HAS THE 5.0 BUT IT DOES NOT have the plow prep kit. I was under the impression when I purchased the truck that I could get it later. Now that I have the plow I called the dealer about the kit. They think it only came from factory and can not be added later. The shop I bought the plow from said I do not need the kit to run the plow. My truck is not overloaded with options. My question is what should I hook up to, to power the plow?
Kelly Johnson I don't think i understand your question, you always hook up to your battery to power the plow/solenoid. you shouldn't need the plow prep kit to install the plow.
Thanks , What I am trying to ask is for ignition power so when you turn the key on the plow has power . When you turn the key off the plow doesn't.
Kelly Johnson first check under the driver side dash for blunt cut wires, on the super duties there is a label which identifies those wires, usually the violet wire is switched 12v. however, they may not be present on a 150. you'd have to probe fuses (one 15+ amps) in the passenger side kick panel. once you find one that is ignition switched, use the BOSS supplied fuse tap and you're good to go. you may have to extend that black/red wire in the BOSS harness to reach the passenger side.

Good review as usual. But might I suggest you upgrade to carbide cutting edges on your plows? Looks like you plow alot of asphalt, regular carbon steel cutting edges really don't last very long with that kind of work. I'm a former DPW worker and have plowed alot of snow myself. We made the switch and the difference in longevity can't be overstated.

Love my boss dxt. The drive in hook up can sometimes be the pain but love the smart hitch setup. So easy. I don't like the spring return on the v's but other than that is been great. Haven't had a problem with customer service. One reason I bought my boss was because local dealer always made it seem like I was inconvincing them and were rude when I would call them for something.

i had a 8 foot straight blade western on my old 250 superduty years ago and i was great..i liked the hook up system..was very forgiving.. i know they do not make them anymore but now i have an older diamond 8 foot blade....very well built..has meyer hydraulics.
Diamond is made by Meyer... the only difference is that the bottom edge trips instead of the entire moldboard.

Hey Stan, I'm up in Ontario. I run western and have for 12 years. Something is off for your new MP3's to wear down the cutting edge's so quick. I'll get 3 years out of a cutting edge putting min 250 hr per year. That said the poly edges wear super quick on my wideout..but they have come down in cost. The old pivot bar on the old mpv blades has busted on me before but the newer one on my wideout is fine after 4 hard years. I run a 7 year old 9.5mvp and 4 year old wideout. I do find I blow lines often in the wideout. I did own a boss once, never put it on my truck...decided to get the 9.5 mvp instead and sold the boss. Cool story, I bought the boss from Mike Holmes.
I have used Western & Currently Use Boss Plows and also have a Hiniker. I can honestly say Hiniker for us, has the best controller we have used. IMO--the best plow I have used.
Have not tested wings, would love to add those to our fleet. I love the look of the Western & have not used the newer version before.

Great video! I use to run boss rt-3's for the people I bought my unimount v (with truck) from. Several years in and I'm finally getting the western going. They were rigbt, westerns are a pain to work on but man the smoothness with which they operate and clear snow beats boss. I for one am for the western controller for even though it has more buttons, each button is a short cut to a boss operation that requires playing with 2 buttons. I.e. you want full left or right on a boss you have to hold both left and right but the western has one button to move both wings in unison in either direction
I have two western 9.6 MVP plus, one is 13 yrs old and still has the original cutting edge, it's wore out now, I have a replacement on the shelf. The newer (now two seasons old) Has worn faster, and I have had to adjust shoe height to keep it cutting good... It is wearing faster than the old plow.. As far as the controller... I like it, and I know what you mean with the double tap or extended hold on down to go to float... I seldom look at my controller, after so many years at it, it's natural to me in my left hand... Training a new plow operator (never plowed before) this season, he persistently holds the controller in his right hand, I have told him wrong hand ( my feeling).... I find left leaves the right hand available to run the truck... VIDEO SUGGESTION Stanley.... "which hand do most people use? and which hand makes the job faster" Ok, We won't bring women into that conversation.... LOL Keep up the good work Stanley I enjoy your video's!
I've been running a boss power v since 2005. I've actually never had one single problem other than bad headlights and some wiring grounds going bad that I re did this year. I absolutely love the boss controller with 5 buttons. My cutting edge hasn't even wore down yet and I used it everyday for a year straight plowing parking lots. I will stick with boss for as long as I plow

I have ran Boss plows since 1999 the only trouble I have had with the V blade is I do brake the v at the bottom when people get to ruff, very little problems with the v coming back when full of snow, they work real well and I have two good dealers I use I have both of there cell numbers if I need parts in a storm, I do keep a spare blade, and a lot of parts I am 1.5 hrs from the closes dealer, also you should of showed the joy stick controller for boss much betterThanks for the video

I have a western unimount mvp plow and I have to put it on and leave it on all winter because it’s so much trouble putting it on my truck I’m 71 years old I have so much trouble getting it lined up for the upper pins that holds the lights up works great but pain to hook it up must be a better way. Ultra mount looks so much easier
we Run western wide out plows on two trucks and love them, I have good dealer support and repairs when needed, we own a v blade western also, Go Western...

Boss dealers and tech support are great, had a small issue with new l.e.d lights which beat everyone right now, the two head engineers at boss came down to see what was going on and are working with me to correct the problem.

I have only used Boss and its been a great plow. The smart hitch system can be a bit of a pain, like you said it has to be dead to nuts perfect lining it up, but you get used to it over time. Love the controller, simple 3 button. That Western controller, no thanks! I would like to try a scoop plow like that Hiniker.

I actually thought I commented on this last year when I was having issues with my western plow. My first truck was a fully hydraulic old setup on a square body chevy truck. It was a old fisher setup, and was a tank. I then picked up a newer 2000 silverado and put a curtis plow on it. Not much out there on curtis plows, but that plow was a BEAST. When it worked, it worked fantastic. when it failed, it failed badly. Parts were hard to come by, but in all honesty, in 8 years, it only failed twice, and both times could have been avoided had I done a little more preventative maintenance on it. My current plow setup is a western on my newer silverado. In all honesty, I was ready to pull the plow off of my truck and lite it on fire last winter. I went to a local company for support, as to diagnose it, you need the diagnostic harness, which if you can find one on line is useful! otherwise, you're stuck going to a dealer. This guy at first was very helpful, but then once it was still broken, his employee's were not so very helpful. In fact, I was told that I should diagnose it myself, because i'm too small to waste time on. I then contacted western plows on facebook of all things, and within a day I had a response, and a number to call. I spoke with a executive who then told me to call that local dealer one more time for an appointment, and if they jerked me around anymore to let him know, and he'd take care of it. Needless to day, it was taken care of. Shouldn't have gone to that level, but it is what it is. The plow itself works well, but as soon as I can afford to, i'm looking to replace it with something else.

No, but i'm not very far from Mass. I live just west of Albany, NY. When I had that curtis plow, I was dealing a lot with a dealer in queensbury NY, just north of Lake George.

Have been running a Boss V-Plow since 99. Best plow I've had. Have had Western and Meyer. Had to replace motors on the Western and Meyer almost every two years no matter what I did to protect them. Bought my Boss V-plow in 1999. Replaced the Boss motor after 10 years of hard use. Hookup on the Boss is very easy. Just as easy as western. Boss beats them hands down. Have been plowing for 38 years.

I've had great customer-service for my Boss plow. Both at the local dealership and the HQ. I can just call and talk to a real person pretty much anytime. The last time I called about a hydraulic issue the woman at the HQ conferenced me in with two local dealers. It was great having all those people communicating with me to help solve the problem.
So far as chaining a plow up goes. I've never had a catastrophic failure of my hydraulics. However I did get water into my reservoir once and got caught in the field w/o enough fluid. I always carry heavy ratchet straps with me and I used those to both lift and secure the blade up and get it back to the shop for repair. Driving the plow up a snow bank in full float didn't occur to me. But I don't think I want to be standing in a snow bank while I secure the blade in the up position either.
My boss service was excellent as well!
By far i love the boss controller and blade! Very responsive and easy to run one handed, i also ran a hinkier v plow in my freinds f-450, honestly the controller was a bit difficult to use but you get used to it after a while.

like the western ran a 8' straight for years never ran the boss but here good things and would try one. Meyers are cheap but will get you started. go to a steel shop and get your wear bars cut better steel last way longer can drill holes yourself use lots of wd 40 when drilling cuts better
I've ran Fisher, Western, Meyer, Arctic, Snow Way and Boss. Installed most of them too. By far my favorite attachment system and controller are on the 1989 Boss RT1 V plow I have on my 92 Cummins Dodge. The attachment system is rediculiously simple and you don't have to be even remotely close to lined up. Hang the plow off the chain and swing it into the v shaped recievers and drop in the pins.
Controller is 3 3 position rockers. Up/hold/down(clicks into down for float) each wing has its own rocker, in/hold/out, spring loaded to hold.
I have ran Boss's handheld and joystick, and most other V-plow controllers, but when it comes down to it I prefer the simplicity of my ancient junk.
The hydraulics seem stronger and the plow itself is quite a bit heavier than the newer stuff.
Not going to recommend everyone go out and get one, they are ancient and so are the trucks that they attach to. Parts are getting to be few and far between as well.
Have used both, I think the western method of attachment is hemroidal, and the chain lift doesn't allow for nearly as much float. Probably fine for parking lots. I do like western trip edge, the only thing it's got going for it. Boss all the way.
What do you think is better for parking lots. A western power plow 8-10 feet with wings or a V plow. ???

I have been running a western pro+ for about 4 years and live the ultra mount stystem. It hooks up fast and it doesn’t hang all the way to the ground like the hook bar for the boss. On a side note back when I lived in Anchorage those guys swore by western, Myers and fisher plows. Not sure what has happened with the Myers plows that they are getting so much hate on here but something must have changed in the last 15 years
I use a Hinker 7.5 foot str8 Blade. I Live in Central Wisconsin and we get a lot of Snow. It works very well on a 1997 Ford f-150 with 5.4 Triton. My Hiniker has worked well. Just flushed out the whole Hydraulic system and replaced the fluids with -50 Good oil. Hinker is on and off My Truck in two mins or less. It has been a cold cold year and no snow. Parts very easy to get and ram's are very to repack on my Hiniker. No Complaints at all. But if I had my choice it would be a Boss V on a Short Box Chevy. Best plow i had was a Str8 Western on a Bronco. Plowed like a Beast.

western pluses: stack height, controller easier to use, has pivot bar (for easy unlevel ground hookup), and security code system. also the carrier hardware on front end doesn't hang down as far. mine is even with bottom of front end bumper facia.....just my opinion.

Love Western I have 3 great Western plows, I have a local service center that handles all the repairs.
folks when your wings break away is a good thing. If you hit something you can't see on a boss your wing just collapses. It doesn't blow a hose or bend a cylinder. I push piles of snow taller than the hood of a super duty ford and it has never caused the wings to fail.
Awesome video Stan. That's too bad about westerns service. I love my Fisher and their customer service has been great. They own western so that's crazy they have such horrible customer service! Hard to believe the cutting edge wore down that fast as well I hope you have better luck with them in the future. Keep up the phenomenal videos!

I can not comment on Western as I own a Boss straight blade. I had issues with the valve that allows you to mount it. I called Boss customer service and they were great, they spent so much time with me helping me diagnose the problem. I would probably stick with Boss just for that reason. And this was a 10 year old plow.
Boss did the same thing for me. I had one of the wings rip in half. They replaced it asap-no charge. Great customer service!
Which one cleans down to pavement better? maybe try hard facing, on cutting edge.
I work for a township and I have a 2012 F250 gas and I have one of the biggest boss v plows out there
im big fan of old school rocker switch box controller for boss plow. just had to build a base for it

Barrington NH Plower, the boss pin connection from truck to plow is the worst. I took a truck/plow back to the dealer twice for this problem. The pins bend and won"t line up. They said they didn't have a fix. I wanted my money back, They said no can do. I wish a had gotten a fisher.
Oh and western service and sucks I called 5 dealer and parts places and all closed on a Friday before 430. And a snow storm coming. I have a boss dealer in my town. If the snow is flying he is at his shop for us. So we can keep on pushing.

How do these plows react when extended forward and then strike a hidden obstacle at higher speeds? We plow roads with cut banks & it is easy to catch the bank or other hidden stump, rock, etc. I only have experience with Meyers, & as a fill in plow guy(so very little experience)... But with this plow when I catch a rock etc. , it just blows the hydrolic line. Is this something that would be universal? Looking to purchase new plow for next year, so just curious. We use the Western Wideout. I will never buy another plow. It does the job and saves about 30% time plowing. 2 years and no issues as all.

Most of the people, including the dealer I buy from said the Fisher XLS (same as the wideout) has way too many durability issues. Employees seem to love using them, owners don't seem to like the on going expense.
+David G xls and wideout are similar not identical, wideout is trip blade, xls is trip edge. As far as durability, I bought my wideout new in 09. I do ton of commercial plowing and as of now I only ever blew one hose that should've been changed before the storm. I had it in my truck and was back going in minutes. That's the only "issue" I've had. But as with anything preventative maintenance is everything to making equipment last and not let you down.
I never understood the whole trip blade, unless you are plowing a road that was just bombed. Some people like them, some people hate them but when a reputable Fisher dealer says, don't buy one, they are a headache, I take notice.
+David G I have plowed with both but only own trip blades(not because I have anything against trip edge), but I've found they peel up packed snow better at least for me. Once they bite in the springs load a bit it scrapes clean to pavement. I don't know why a dealer would tell you a trip blade is bad. Most of all of the state plows are trip blades. At least here.

Although I have no direct experience with V plows, springs wear out from use not being extended for long periods of time. Its the action of being opened closed that wears them out. Its a common misconception with firearms that leaving a pistol on the cocked position will wear the spring out. Perhaps I misunderstood what you were saying about springs wearing out on the Boss.
Its the opening and closing action that wears them out-just like you described.
Dirt I grew up in the town Boss Plows are manufactured. I know a number of people who work there including Foreman's. If you have any customer service issues let me know and I can get word across and maybe get something done there.
v plows are for the olden days you either need to buy a boss EXT 8 to 10 foot plow or a western wide out
I've plowed for 40 years and love my Western plows.Had 1 Meier(junk) 1 Fisher(junk) but my Westerns always work great.My friend has had Boss and nothing but problems for the last 20 years.It seems that Boss is always changing their design. We once spent 4 hours trying to attach his Boss with jacks,pry bars come alongs and torches. He goes through seals and solenoids like crazy.This happened on 5 different brand new Boss plows on 5 different brand new trucks.He finally bought a used Western that we retrofitted to his Ford from a Chevy and it works great.I would not even recommend a Boss to competing contractors 'cause I'm a nice guy.
Mr Frog western and fisher plows are the same company and same plow.
Then why do fisher plow blades only trip at the cutting edge and the whole western blade trips?

Finally talked him back into a Western-now we can interchange plows.His Boss dealer was an IDIOT!!! Tried to tell me Westerns were junk.I shut him up when I asked why Boss changes their design every couple of years.

hey stanley just a quick question! since you been plowing for years i need your expert advice! i been plowing for 3 years using my buddy western unmount truck! this year i got my own truck and was shopping for a plow! now I'm stuck between a boss dxt a western mvp3 and the western wideout! i will be doing mostly driveways and couple small to medium size lots? I seen this video and aware of the comparisons but with the boss dxt i know it has a dual trip system as the western only has a trip edge system! in this video it seems like you are ok with the mvp3 but in another video u said u didn't like the mvp3! any input would be gladly appreciated
I would never buy another MVP3. In fact I am not a fan of Westerns service- even they make great straight plows though. I like Boss for v plows.
I have always used western I love them they are the best to hook up and operate very well to me but I own 3 of them so I think they do the best job I think everyone is going b to be biased to what they have
Love fisher and Western prefer fisher. Can't beat the quality they are#1 for a reason
Fisher has the best mounting system in my eyes and the wings hold strong same as a western since there practically the same I have an 8.6 extreme v
Hey Stanley it'sPatrick, I'm really enjoying watching your youtube videos, they're fun to watch but on the flip side, they're very useful, last winter I had the opportunity to use three different snowplows the boss EXT snowplow and the western WIDEOUT snowplow, each plow had its pros and cons the boss had the SL3 L.E.D headlights with the ice shield technology, the ONLY thing I disliked was the snowplow mounting, and when I had the chance to use the western WIDEOUT snowplow it made big jobs really easy, I liked the ultra mount system, it was fast and very easy to hook up the plow to the truck, the ONLY two things I disliked about the western was 1-the plow cutting edge didn't last no time and the handheld control SUCKED because of the tiny buttons other than those two issues hands down I preferred the western snowplow over the boss, I almost forgot the boss plow at times froze up plowing snow and when it froze up it was in the transport position and the western wideout did not. good job on the videos and keep them coming Patrick
