For the hair, there are a lot of options for that. I lost most of my hair due to an autoimmune disease, so I know how you are feeling. It’s devastating to lose a part of your appearance that you are used to depending on. I didn’t realize how insecure I was until that part of my armor was gone. That said, there are things that you can do in addition to the castor oil, vitamins, etc. I went to a salon that focuses on helping women with hair loss, and I got a topper. It matches my hair perfectly and is significantly easier to use than a full wig, and it is safer for your hair than tape in or sew in extensions. That would be a good option for you. (I recommend going to a salon that specializes in this, if you want to go this route, as they can match your color and help you find the right texture, length, and fiber type. Mine is synthetic hair, so it was a lot cheaper than one made of real hair, but it is heat safe and can be styled as normal.)
Honestly, I only wear mine for special occasions these days and the funny thing is that once I embraced my new appearance, my hair started to fill in again. It’s longer than my topper now! So, if all else fails, I think that you could totally rock a pixie cut for a while. It takes some getting used to, but I found that finding good things to say about my hair (or my appearance in general) really helped me to accept the changes. I hope that you area also able to find peace with the changes in your hair until it starts growing back.

Your opinion on loose skin surgery is completely understandable! My friend had one after a bariatric surgery, because she ended with a lot of loose skin and it had become unmaneagable. She had a kid 5 years later, and she didnt think her first surgery was a loss at all. It all comes down to comfort, as long as it does not impact your daily life, loose skin is just skin. ❤

Hi Catherine, I had a gastric bypass on 2 Dec 2020 and have lost 53kgs and also have loose skin. In relation to hair loss, it took up until late last year for my hair to settle down and not have the wispy baby hairs. However, I have had to go with a short hair cut (pixie cut) and have found a product called Nioxin (Shampoo, Conditioner and Serum) to help. This product promotes hair growth for thinning hair which is exactly what has happened for me. I am so happy to see how well both yourself and Dean have done with your bariatric journey. Congratulations !!!!

Super proud of u both and u both looked amazing. Some things I done after my gastric sleeve surgery was I had to get d12 injections monthly, vitiam d injections, iron transfusions twice a yr, and fish tablets. All those helped me not loss hair and helped my health because after the sleeve I became really malnutrised because the part of the stomach that makes and stores those was no longer there. Fast forward to 7 yrs later I still regularly take those. Also re weigh loss I had to do numerous pouch resets which helped. So that's where I had to start from the liquid stage to the pureed and then solid stage all over again to help get the weight moving. Hope that helps

You are young and could carry it off until hopefully your hair recovers. There is a tuber called HalfofCarla who has lost 180lbs (through diet and walking). My husband and I both had the gastric sleeve. Me 13 years ago and hubby 12 years ago. I lost 125 pounds in 10 months BUT I was so sick and threw up food and drinks I couldn’t keep anything down. I ended up having a scope down my throat to see if my throat needed to be stretched because I have to have it done every few years. However, they found a hiatal hernia so the doctor went in to fix the hiatal hernia, and found that my stomach had been completely twisted and flipped over on it so if I would’ve had the surgery when I did, my stomach would’ve completely died that’s how bad it was as for the hair loss I don’t know what to tell you cause I’m just like you all my blood work shows everything normal. after each shower, I am left with a handful of hair. Thankfully I have thick hair and it’s thinning out now which I love but in your case I couldn’t tell you if your blood work is normal I couldn’t tell you what would be causing it I know with the bypass you have a very hard time absorbing nutrients from your food so that could play back there. I don’t know as for the skin removal I had it done and at times I wish I hadn’t only because the recovery was the worst recovery I have had in my life. my recovery was literally two months I could barely move because they cut me from one side all the way across to the other side so my scar looks like I was cut in half. Don’t get me wrong. The surgery was worth it though. I came out of surgery 10 pounds lighter than when I went into surgery because they remove so much skin and a little bit of fat just like my stomach and I had a completely flat stomach at the time now 13 years later, I’ve gained back 50 pounds but that is due to my heart meds and my anxiety, depression meds because I still hardly anything and I can go a day or two without eating unless I make a note in my head and put an alarm on my phone, I’ll forget to eat, but you and Denean both look really good. Fingers crossed. You guys will have a baby soon.

I'm 3 months post surgery, with sleeve, and the hair loss is real already. I had my hair chopped into a long pixie just over the weekend, and I'm getting a (good) wig in the next week. Even when you're on top of vitamins, protein, etc it's so hard to prevent it. It does grow back, just takes time. We looked at getting a topper, but with really fine hair, similar to yours, it wasn't recommended.

I personally have not had a weight loss surgery or struggled with major weight fluctuations, but one thing that changed my weight average was when I reduced the amount of coffee I was drinking from places like Coffee Bean and Starbucks basically mixed coffee drinks etc, , I now drink black coffee with a little bit of something sweet to eat, instead. I still have these drinks, but less regularly. Also, I have a funny little health & beauty secret my grandmother taught me, to give your body and overall boost in all respects from your hair to your reproductive system to your skin, etc., eat asparagus, broccoli soup, pickled cabbage, or pickled anything, regularly. One day I just decided to do these things regularly, and it made a shift in my body. I can’t wait to see your trip to Italy. @@catherinekayy I don't think calories are bad for you, it's the chemicals that make the drink so yummy take more for your body to digest and taxes the system more than natural foods. When you weren't restricting your calories of protein, that helped counter those chemicals. But now you are not eating as much protein, I suspect. In fact, you can continue drinking those drinks as long as you regularly eat those vegetables I mentioned! I do it all the time, they allow me to splurge any time I want. They just clear it out of the body.

Your hair is gorgeous. I've been watching your vlogs recently and thinking if I'd be able to ask my hairdresser for something similar. So I had absolutely no idea it's something you've been struggling with until you mentioned it in this vlog.

Omg I have soooo much to say about this vlog!! FIRSTLY I'm moving to Liverpool in 2 weeks so was SO happy when you mentioned you were going there! (Really hope you're not scarred from your day tho and will visit again! 😂) SECOND I've had that battery light flash up on my car when I was driving before and had to scrap the car after so can ABSOLUTELY relate to how crazy that experience is! 😭 AND LASTLY You and Dean looked absolutely aaaamazing for the Bariatric Ball! 😍 You have both honestly done extremely well with your weight loss and should feel so proud of yourselves! ❤

@catherinekay First let me start by saying I love your vlogs. I watch both of your channels and I'm so inspired by you. Also, where on earth do you find those gorgeous dresses (the green one in this video and the yellow sunflower on you wear in other videos)? I just loved them. I am 5 years post-op almost to the day. I had the gastric sleeve surgery. It has been a struggle. I lost a good amount but then it slowed and I've had some regain even though I eat like I'm supposed to. It is a process for sure! I have long, dense, curly hair and I lost about 2/3 of it in my first year. I did take biotin which helped. For me the hair loss slowed down and eventually stopped after about a year. Hopefully this will be the case for you. I just wanted to let you know that I love your videos and as another illustrator who has had the surgery I thought I would say hi!

Hey Catherine, have you ever heard of vegamour? It's a company that makes hair regrowth products. I've never had bariatric surgery so I've never personally experienced hair loss from that, but a couple years ago I was losing a lot of hair due to stress and started using vegamour. All of my hair is back now and I saw noticeable difference in about 4-5 months. It's not cheap but I used the shampoo/conditioner and serum and have recommended it to lots of people who also had great results.

You look both AMAZING! The Bariatric Ball is such a beautiful event! Here in Italy there is pretty much nothing, even online. Just some old and abandoned forums.
Anyway, my partner didn't suffer a big hair loss (they're an AFAB person), in the beginning it was noticeable but after 6-8 months they recovered (15 months post-surgery). Maybe the gastric bypass causes more malabsorption then the gastric sleeve (they did this)? 🤔
I was wondering beyond the hypothetical personal predisposition.
Anyway don't despair! To see hair growing back is a chinese drop, because they change only every 3 months and when a hair grows you need to wait for it to fall and re-grow again to see it thicker. So maybe it can pass 1-2 years before see them as they were :D

For the hair, maybe you can just do shorter extensions? like boob length lol as opposed to super long? i lost a lot of my hair due to PCOS which caused alopecia :/ my face is naturally very round so short hair makes me look like a turnip with a wig. I do extensions too but like 16” or less as opposed to 20-22”.
For loose skin, I’ve had some friends with the same concern as you but I believe they waited until they had a baby since lots of people tend to go back on diets after pregnancy and re-lose more weight. But you and Dean have done so well!!

Have you thought of Halo extensions? They don't damage your hair, and are really good for fine hair. When you pulled your hair back though, I couldn't help but notice how cute a pixie cut would look on you! I know you like long hair though, but it would look cute :)

I totally recommend Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. It's a must, I have been using it for over 10 years now, my hair has thicked heaps and is in great condition, to the point my hairdresser doesn't even try to sell me her products because my hair is so good. I lost most of my hair awhile back and I have very thin hair, mine was diet and stress. It take about 6 for nioxin to really show a difference and I've had no issues since, recommend to anyone with hair lose issues male or female :)

Try Biotin gummies and vitamin D supplements for your hair.
See a surgeon. I had my stomach done and thought it would be 30 lbs but was 8lbs but it made a big difference. However there was other issues hidden under my stomach that still bother me.
Regained 50 lbs and appetite returned, and emotional eating is out of control.
