One thing I love about Larnell is you'll never see him playing the same setup twice. He always knows exactly which gear to pick for the best sound. Never stop playing man
I think I've saw this trick before being performed by a guy called Lee Pearson (Spyro Gyra). He actually makes a pretty good solo and he uses some of this shenanigans to keep things interesting! Probably Larnell knows about him too, and that doesn't mean it makes it any less original and impressive. Just search for the guy on youtube, you'll probably like it!
So many elegant details in fills, so many screw-face appreciation moments, and then a behind the back floor tom fill... nothing but admiration for the way you craft your art man!
Larnell drumming is out of this world incredible but what's even more incredible is his ability to make you feel inspired and depressed at the same time. And seamlessly blurring those lines. Like you would be lying to someone if you said :"keep practicing because one day you could be this good. "
Happy Birthday Larnell my man! You are truly my biggest inspiration for drums over the past few years since I discovered you. Everytime I listen to We Like it Here, it just blows my mind. Loving all these solo vids you're putting out. Keep it up man, you rock big time!
Play/perform like every time is going to be your last. Larnell, you accomplish this EVERY time you play publicly. God bless you bro and PLEASE keep gracing us with your music.
I just the way Larnell plays the drum. He's able to show proficiency in simplicity, and I don't understand how he can do that so easily. I'm currently trying to practice and perfect that method of playing without going overboard or sounding like a showoff. Either way, love the performance, especially that sick solo!
Play the drums don’t hit them. Sing the melodies of all your songs in your head and let your body do all the drumming. You will naturally play the right parts with the right groove with time.
I have saved about five or six songs to my playlist and repeated them my whole 8 hour shift for this whole week, and I'm still mesmerized. Supreme beings are definitely on earth, and you are one of them.
I love that he is very intentional in his playing and lets the music dictate not only what he playings, but also which piece of his instrument that he plays during that time. He's extremely musical!!
You know at a certain point you realize limits....you sir have seen the limits and broken all limitations in regards to drumming....You are the man with the force now.....what you do with it is the real story that will cement your genius..... May the Ancestors ( Blakey, Roach and Tony Williams) guide your hands... Ase
Larnell Lewis & Dave Weckl , two among my absolute favorites. Different, but same. Being in the music. Bringing, or rather pushing, the concept of playing drums (with accent on playing) to the next level. Don't play drums, but listening to Larnell (and Dave) gives me immense joy! Thanks for sharing :)
Dear Mr. Lewis! Without any doubt: you're one of my most authentic and original drummers and most esthetic rhythm players.. Your creative and refreshing style give me the pulse to breath and to dance to all of your lightful heart-energy. Thank you so much therefore. Love and peace on earth! Best wishes from my heart, greetings from Leipzig/Germany.
For those who haven't watched it yet: Your body will try to keep your breath at 4:30, don't let it do it, keep breathing. Lovely performance. Thank you!
This track, over time, has become my favorite from the project. Regardless of what's going on, it always puts me in a good mood. Thanks for sharing your craft with the world man. It's so insane how music has the ability to affect the lives of people... strangers, friends, people who will probably never meet... all united by the international language, that is music. Much love bro.
Amazing work, like your music. When I saw the notification, I immediately clicked on it knowing it would be another amazing masterpiece to bless my ears.
So listening to Cobham, Corea, Clarke, etc in the 80s I recently stumbled upon that "Larnell learns a song" video with a meh attitude. Now I've been listening the Dutch session on here over and over. It's quite a feat to get me crying from pure delight, thank you!!
5:16 "I also hate it when I get a really bad itch on my back in the middle of a solo..." ... ... "OH! Behind the back floor tom!"
That was just insane.
I had to replay that part several times! So blown away at his gift and talent and hard work.
He listens ten times the amount he plays. Incredibly colorful.
Where did he say that could you share this video with me :)
He never said anything.

Facts.. I thought I was the only person who seen that ..
Are you playing with me?
Did my eyes see correctly at the end? He's just messing with us mortals now! Lol. Thanks bro!
You mean playing in his back with one of his arms ?? Yes I saw it too, insane !
Happy Birthday Larnell and thank you for serving us your gift without holding anything back. Love you big Bro 🇿🇦

Happy Birthday Larnell, Thanks for letting us rejoice with you!
This man played from the fundamental vibration of the universe. lol
One of the best drummers in the world, You Are Incredible !!!!!

I don't have to watch the video, I just sit back, close my eyes and listen to this wonderful human being..
Thank you for this sir.
Happy birthday to a huge inspiration
The hang stutter at 3:22 is a widely underrated touch of class.
That hang stutter was tasty as hell.
I have saved about five or six songs to my playlist and repeated them my whole 8 hour shift for this whole week, and I'm still mesmerized. Supreme beings are definitely on earth, and you are one of them.
Cleaner than the department of Health,

Not just one of the world most incredible and best drummer, he is also a teacher with calm and loving personality. Thank you Larnell 💯
Absolute beast. Consummate professional. Virtuoso talent. I'm blown away as usual.
I liked this before even listening to it. Who else here??? This dude is amazing!
Good taste
I love that solo line; not only the performance, but as a stylistic contrast to the rest of the song feel.

Good lord!😲
FYI- Larnell, that comment is sincere --- you kill it brother! Really, really nice.
Larnell's passion for music is evident in the way he plays. It's not just another song. He really narrates the song's unique story.

Aires always, my bday was yesterday and i was so excited when i found out you and i were both aries and your bday was after mine
my reference, touches too much, I speak here from São Paulo - Brazil
for my non-portuguese speakers out there, "plays a lot" is written in the same way as "touches too much" in our language :)
toca muito!
Happy BD!!!! Thanks!
DID YALL SEE THE BEhind THE BACK OMG WONDERFUL JOB Mr.Lewis
What I like is the way he preserves his energy when he play , 80 % hands motion 20 % body movement
Bro🙆♂️I'm speechless right now 🙆♂️🙆♂️🙆♂️
Can't wait to listen to this everyday
Oh my goodness! how clean and he makes it more colorful.
Incredible!
What! Behind your back.. Madman haha. 😁 Love your playing and amazing to watch as always. 👍
Amazing work, like your music. When I saw the notification, I immediately clicked on it knowing it would be another amazing masterpiece to bless my ears.
Fantabulous
Why’d you have to go and do all that with your arm behind your back???!!!! That’s just not fair!!! Well done!!!!
I'm glad I watched it again, the first time I didn't see the "behind the back" move. So smooth, so clean. Excellent!
Beautiful groove. Fantastic. God bless you.
Every time he plays this song... it gives me goosebumps. Shout out to Larnell👌👌🔥🔥
