Great video on caulking a tub with silicone caulk. I have one correction having to do caulk not adhering to old caulk. I checked with GE some years ago about this very question. The customer service guy told me that it actually adhered great to itself. That was what I was hoping, because I had caulked my shower stall floor 4 years ago and it had two little specific but relatively small places that were starting to develop mold. One was in a corner and one was along a long joint along a long caulk run. So after talking to the cust service guy, I carefully cleaned those two areas. then cut out those two sections, scrubbed the area where I had removed the caulk with rubbing alcohol, made sure everything was dry, and re-caulked those two little sections using the GE silicone caulk on top of itself. I let it cure overnight and it was perfect! The caulk adhered great to itself and now that it's been about 3 months has passed and the new caulk has slightly dulled, you can't even tell the difference between the newly caulked joints and the old stuff -that's been there for a good 4 years! What a terrific time saver!! And I didn't have to buy a whole new caulk-gun tube of caulk. I was able to buy a small plastic tube of it online at Walmart for a lot less, -Way to make a great product GE! I used their standard 100% silicone white waterproof bathroom/kitchen caulk the original caulking of the whole stall, and then bought the smaller tube of the same product to recaulk the two areas that were starting to show some mold in the caulk.
Thank you so much for this! I'm living in a remodeled duplex house built in 1929 and the hall bath where my daughter takes a bath was starting to show signs of mold. I just got done scraping the old caulk off, but had a feeling I should double-check a how-to video before I caulked and learned a tip about using the rubbing alcohol. Now I'm off to caulk! Thank you, again. 😊

Thank you for posting this video, the house we moved into needed some fresh caulking to make the otherwise clean bathroom look great. Your tutorial was very helpful.
Very nice tips to follow. I never leave home without using 3M Caulk Remover first, to loosen old caulk. But, your use of alcohol and wet cloth were new to me. Thanks for being so clear.
I recenly re-caulked the sink. Gained some confidence. Now on to the tub soon.thanks for the video. I had a strong vaccum to suck up the old chunks of old caulk, helped in a fast cleanup (vaccum must be the simple one not one of those good expensive ones)
Thank you so much! I saw an additional tip somehwhere to actually fill the tub all the way as well. It weighs the bath down and allows you to fill the cracks even better with the caulk.
Thank you for the simple tips and tricks. Especially the tip about using the right color of caulk the matches your tile. I mean duh I said to myself. Couldn’t believing I didn’t think about that.

My tub is ready for caulking today ! Got it all cleaned yesterday. Some of the grout from the tub line does appear to be missing, about 1/2 inch up only on one or 2 tiles. I want to put caulk there. I like your tips because they are brief and to the point. Thank you!
This is an amazing video, so simple! I only had to watch it one time to understand even tho I have never caulked before! Will let you know how I do! Thank you!!!!
Thank you! I'm recaulking (and replacing the pressure balancing units) in our two showers now. The original caulking wasn't terribly well done. Our place is about 25 years old. But I am having a devil of a time with my utility knife and a painter's tool, so I'm going to give a scraping tool a try. The walls are artificial stone, not tile, and the caulk is quite thick (except where the voids are).
For cleaning, I found that a nylon type dish brush is good. I move one direction and twist the brush to get all the debris out and away. It's easier than using a paper towel. I also find it helpful to use some painters tape to give me a good guide for clean lines. Just remove the tape at an angle up and away from the caulk, and remove the tape promptly, before the caulk starts to dry. If the caulk dries first, you'll have a little area that will be more prone to mold and mildew.
Since I've been a DIYer for years, your video on caulking the tub was confirmation of what I had done. Do you have any videos on putting that caulk around the faucet and air release? Do I loosen the screw to get behind the air release/vent, or just go around the outer edge?
I think I mistakenly removed some of the grout below the tiles, so much that I see some gaps underneath. Is it OK to just cover these gaps with caulk, or should I grout first? Thanks.
Thanks so much for this video. I had a few problems getting going: not sure if it was the old $5 caulk gun we've had in the garage for ages or something wrong with the new tube of caulk, but it would not come out hardly at all. Tried cutting a larger hole in the end of the tube but that did not help. Bought a $15 caulk gun and a fresh tube, and it worked beautifully. Just caulked the bathtub! Now on to the sink and shower. Note: I bought the Allway caulk remover tool as well as the razor scraper you used. Both working together were what I needed to get all the old caulk out.
Your directions were very helpful. I used a tube of silicone calk, clipped the end and punctured the tube as shown. It was so difficult to get the caulk out of the tube! I have never had a problem like that. I even switched caulk guns. Same problem. Im going to buy the squeeze tube. My hands hurt at this point.
I’m staying with my mother right now while she goes through a divorce, and with that, comes her feeling like she has a lot to handle and can’t be independent. I have a bathtub exactly like that and around the back corners the top edge of the tub moves when I push down on it so I think this movement happens when someone gets in the tub or when it fills up creating a gap. Any solution for this?
You need to really inspect this area. The tiles should be firmly inplace, If not there could be damage to the wall behind and mold or wood rot could be happening. This is a bigger issue.

I always fill the tub with water first so it has some weight in it whilst the silicone dries. Of you dont do that, the weight from a tub full of water can caused the bathe to pull away a little, breaking the seal
Do u have to use a caulk gun? I don’t have one. I’m trying to recaulk my tub ASAP. Also I thought u can clean it with Clorox bleach? So there’s no mold?
This is good, helpful, thank you. But I'm convinced they grouted the base (last time to the tub, it's hard as a rock and looks like grout (two key clues). I put Goo-Gone Caulk Remover on it, and it didn't budge. So it's not coming off. Can I just caulk over top of it?

The last comment could've been stated much earlier...."don't remove the grout". Geeze I get all obsessive and may very well have attempted to get out the gritty grout. Thanks for this video
Great vid…but I’ll suggest one thing. If there’s grout between the tub and the tile, YES get it out. The space between the tub and the wall tile should only have chalk in it. It’s flexible in that space for a reason. A tub with water and a person is very heavy compared to an empty one. The tub needs to move up and down. Grout there will just crack/crumble over time. 🇨🇦
goo gone makes a caulk remover spray, spray it on, wait 2 hours and use a metal putty knife and wedge it in behind the caulk and wiggle it and the caulk slides out.
Thanks. My mom didn't listen to her manager and the plumber or me and started using the bathtub pretty much right after they left and now there is a couple holes in the caulk. I plan to buy some at the store and replace her caulk for her to avoid any possible problems with the manager, but I don't know if I'm just making a big deal out of it.

It’s flexible in that space for a reason. A tub with water and a person is very heavy compared to an empty one. The tub needs to move up and down. Grout there will just crack/crumble over time. 🇨🇦
So do we put chalk back in there? Maybe it’s chalk that came off under the tiles in my case and I thought it’s grout.
@@AidPast Yes put new chalk back in there. (You can’t mistake chalking for grout. One is rubbery; the other like cement).
goo gone makes a caulk remover spray, spray it on, wait 2 hours and use a metal putty knife and wedge it in behind the caulk and wiggle it and the caulk slides out.
Broken caulk is always a concern. Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Doing massive remodel in my basement. Making new content. Hope you got mom's tub taken care of!
