this lecture so startling and very very informative as I can understand. I wonder if you have heard during your academic years specially or specifically around grade 4 or 5 when Phillipine history usually introduced or least history per se. I never heard the Washington Treaty maybe I was absent or cut class at the time I don't know. In any case lets give the devil his due whatever it might be but I am appalled now to the fact that it was never written on our textbooks at the time during our academic period and will be turning 50yrrs old in couple of months, so around mid to late 80's when I was in elementary. Thank you for educating us Justice Carpio and extending that to the person who posted this very lecture.

Great Lecture. It's ironic that the greatest historic and present day geopolitical defense of Philippines sovereign integrity rests on the legacy of Western and American imperial documentation. For that reason alone, this evidence which refutes the latest Chinese empire's illegitimate and aggressive claims against the peoples of the West Philippine and Eastern Vietnamese seas should not be undermined by a would be hegemonic empire crying and whining about colonialism. Spain itself was colonized and occupied by the Moors for not a measly "century of humiliation" but rather for 800 years of same. The same is true and can be said for all of the Americas including the United States. The would be inheritors of the Manchurian, not Han Chinese built empire , the CCP's endless whining has no merit in the collective valuation of historical geopolitics. Last point, Greenland is claimed by it's original inhabitants, the Inuit.

@27:15, The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) is not a part of the United Nation, it is a court for hire, reason why China boycotted it.
The best question to ask is, "How much did the South China Sea arbitration case cost? Who paid the money? And who received it? Heated discussions on these questions have been raging in the Philippines. The questions have drawn the attention of the international community, too, because $30 million is not a small amount for the Philippines or any other country.
But Manila has not yet revealed how much money it paid to the arbitrators and witnesses, although the $30 million attorney fee gives an indication of the total amount of money spent on the entire arbitration process. And since the final award of the tribunal went overwhelmingly in favor of the Philippines, which is rare in international jurisdiction and arbitration history, one would be justified in questioning the impartiality of the entire arbitration process. Was the ruling delivered in Manila's favor because it paid millions of dollars to the arbitrators?
FOR FULL TEXT, GOOGLE, "How much Manila spent for favorable ruling?

The Philippines also paid China's share for the arbitration to continue.

The names of the Islands are in Spanish, English and pilipino. Language which shows that wps discovered by pilipinos, Spanish and america. They are the ones who captured and discovered by them. China are only a squatter why? Way back after WW2 they are fishing along the seashore of the Philippines and later these Chinese are selling their goods through roaming around communities. Then they put their permanent bldg cas their store. Later their population increase here in the Philippines. Time goes on our leaders became so friendly to the Chinese that they can easily aquire properties in the Philippines. ...So sad to realize these real truth that exists in our country ...

And about Scarborough Shoal you talked about that it is part of our territory, why in seven hells did our legal team, which you were part of I suppose, not demand sovereignty over it? It is confusing and you’re debating now the actions of Delrosario through this lecture: the team fought for sovereign rights only or traditional fishing at Scarborough Shoal. And now this?

Malaysia and Vietnam did not agree with the Tribunal but only on the issue of nine-dash line that it has no basis. Vietnam and Malaysia are claiming Sovereign Rights. Where the hell did you get the idea that the two nations agreed fully with the Arbitral Tribunal?

  • @Granados-pv9ql

Kaya Pala interesado din Ang united states' of America because the first map that was represented in the treaty of Paris was spratly and Scarborough was not included they make another agreement with the united states' in Washington by additional island including spratly group of island and Scarborough shoal with additional amount in dollars so the Spaniard signed it

The problem really is, Justice Carpio, with those things you are lecturing, Delasario et. al., did not file for sovereignty but sovereign rights and traditional fishing only. Why talk of territories now?
