Ha ha ...I have to say my G.A.S is largely cured. I've got all the cameras now I ever wanted really. And ok a hasselblad Xpan and maybe a Leica M6 or digital M10 would be amazing to own..but I don't feel that longing any longer to buy endless gear. I have about ,5 more draws of mostly point and shoot cameras. Largely Nikon and Olympus ones. But plan to thin down my collection to just what I use. Which is the draw shown in this video

In 1980 I was in the market for my first 35mm SLR. A friend had an older 1960's Nikon and Pentax and I was impressed with both. However, at the time these older cameras seemed too bulky and, as the local camera shop was a Pentax stockist I was introduced to the then current all metal bodied 'twins' as Pentax referred to them. These were the all manual MX and aperture priority electronic shutter ME. However a new model was being promoted which had the ME auto exposure combined with full manual override. This seemed to be the answer and my ME Super soon arrived. However, after a year I realised that many of my shots (all colour slides) were being metered manually. Secondly I was never really happy with the poly-carbonate body of the Super and lack of speed dial on the top. I was able to buy one of the last black bodied MX's that were being sold off in 1982 new quite cheaply and instantly fell for it. It is the smallest full-frame SLR ever made I believe. This camera makes the OM1 feel big. Obviously the speed dial was on the top, rather than what I then thought was all wrong around the lens mount (subsequently I now love the speed dial on the OM1!) The meter read out is my favourite of all my cameras with an LED traffic light system, red, amber and green and the meter itself is also the most accurate using Gallium Phospate (GPD) cells.
I love the Pentax M series lenses. They are small and have the same beautiful damped focussing action as the Zuikos but the aperture ring is a little more robust.
About 15 years ago I felt the need to get the twin to my MX and picked up a well used black ME. This camera has the same high quality construction and meter as it's 'professional' twin. It is often looked down upon as it has no mirror lock-up or DOF preview. However, it does have 2 stops either way exposure compensation and a fully manual 1/100. It is far easier to use than my plastic bodied Olympus XA which people rave about (quite rightly). Using this camera is so liberating. You know the exposure is going to be spot on and simply the feel in your hands totally matches up with the Pentax mantra of 'Pick up a Pentax'. It goes without saying that I recommend anyone to look at these marvels.

One more thought. As I said earlier I dismissed the OM series because of the placement of the speed dial. This was a big mistake. The dial in use is actually better than on the top plate. Also, the feel of the engineering quality is superb . The OM1 and 2 are a joy to handle and use. The shutter sounds are exquisite, the design and look are sublime - perfection. The OM2n meterr is of course OTF and set on auto can take exposures of a very long time - perfect for star-trails. The Zuiko lenses are as I mentioned a real pleasure to handle with a wonderful damped focus action. If I could design my perfect 'one-only' camera it would be an OM2n body, with a Pentax M GPD meter and LED readout, a Pentax M series set of lenses and a Nikon FE film transport wind-on. That camera does not exist and that is why I have had to get all of the constituents! The Pentax LX is the closest to this set of criteria and a mint example would be hard to pass up. Good hunting!
