You fellas sure know how to have a good time! Thanks for sharing! ❤ P.S. RE: 3:49 and following… “When is there a boat race? Any time there’s more than one boat on the water.” 😊
David, in Vivier's design iteration (for the lug-sloop set up) which I used for Clarisa, the boom has a "half jaw" which nestles against the mast. The downhaul is attached to part of the jaw and then runs down to a block attached to the mast at the level of the forward floor boards and then back along the port side of the CB trunk, attached to a block with becket that is part of a 3:1 purchase cleated off near the side end of the CB trunk. I found the constant friction by the jaw on the wooden mast very annoying (mostly in light air) even though they were leathered... and after discussing with Mr. Vivier I took off the jaw and tied a fixed loop to the boom a bit further forward of where it needs to intersect with the mast. I attach with a quick release knot the downhaul line that that loop. As I apply tension to the downhaul which otherwise runs as described, it brings the boom into the correct location at the mast. Hope that helps. Do you have the lug-sloop version? If you want to see more details of my build, feel free to check the thread on Woodenboat... forum.woodenboat.com/forum/building-repair/185739-
@ i thought that was your boat in the vid. I have the balanced lug rig. My down haul line is run through a hole in the foredeck to a block attached to the stem and then run back like yours to the cb. I always wondered if there was another way that pulled straight down on the boom. I didn’t see any plans that showed a block attached to the mast. Did you use a cheek block on the mast?
@@davidladd6266 a simply block secured at the right location on the mast with a thin line which is anchored in place by it running right through the mast.
@@cmosheh Thanks. I don’t need a picture. I went back and looked at my drawings and saw how the downhaul is set up for your rig. I’m not sure why Vivier does it differently for the balanced lug.
@@Chris.from.1950 Thanks very much, it’s a pity I hadn’t the brains to read the video description! The Eel looks to be a beautiful cruising boat as is the Ilur.
Thank you! I've missed your vids of the boat. Beautiful!!!
Thank you for this. As winter approaches, I have put my boats away for a long sleep.
What a lovely day to say and what a nicely build Ilur!
So relaxing. Some lovely boats out with you. Thank you for sharing this!
Beautiful boats - beautiful sailing ❗❤️
Lucky dogs!
Thumbs up!
That Eel looks way better on the water than on paper.
yes, An eel is always a show stopper. I am certain it launching one would take hours for all the questions.
I like how he mounted the outboard on the double ender

Perfect! Thank you.
I also have an Ilur. Could you show your downhaul attachment point and blocks?

What is the yawl rigged craft sailing alongside at various times?
I believe that would be the “William Garden designed Eel” that’s mentioned in the video description.
