2021 Honda CB1000R Black Edition - First Ride Review - New look & Tech
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 24 июл 2024
- The 2021 Honda CB1000R comes with a new look and some new tech too. The Black Edition steps it up further with a moody dark profile and smart detailing. The four-cylinder engine derived from the CBR1000R Fireblade unit pushes in along very nicely indeed, and there's plenty of comfort to go with the grunt.
In this video, I take a look at the cosmetic and mechanical changes, as well as offering a view of what the CB1000r is actually like to ride.

"I imagine that ownership of this bike is nothing but pleasurable". Great way of putting it. Between the looks, performance, and reliability I would agree
Cheers
It’s about time I watched a review without falling asleep… I do like the fact you have mixed it up with voice over and live commentary, well put together vlog… and the bike well simply stunning.
Thank you!
It’s about time I watched a video without falling asleep well put together I love the voice over and live commentary, and the bike simply stunning.
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you
Awesome review mate. Really appreciate the listing of all the specs while showing images of the bike itself, diagrams, charts etc.
No problem, glad you liked it
A great, honest review. Thank you. I enjoyed the mix of on-road blogging and commentary. 👍😎🇦🇺
Thanks 👍
As others have said, this is a really well put together video. Looks very professional and very informative without being too long and repetitive. That CB is a cracking looking bike too!
Much appreciated!
Just keep doing what you're doing, don't change a thing👌
Cheers Steve
Great format for the video, with a mix of on and off bike commentary. I like this bike a lot and it's definitely on my "to be considered next time I change" list. Thanks
Thanks Richard
Thanks for all the commentary, especially on the blacked out bits and rider comfort. Nice work.
Glad you enjoyed!
Nice review. First full review I've seen on RUclips in English. Lovely looking bike with a lovely level of fit and finish although I think it should have cruise control and an I.M.U by now, like most bikes in this price range. Ride safe and keep up the good work.
Thanks Boz
First time viewing your channel and I like how this video was put together. Thanks!
Thanks and welcome aboard
I've watched dozens of reviews on this bike but from you video, I learned things I did not know before, such as the comparison between models '20/'21. Well done, I've subscribed.
Thank you and welcome
This is the best review I've seen so far on this bike!
Wow, thanks!
Great review of the bike and love the format of informative txt and comments whilst riding. Balance spot on! Just picked up my 2021 black edition 2 days ago. Can t wait to try it out properly over the coming months. I don t think any video of this bike brings out how good the bike looks in reality. Seeing it in “The flesh” it’s a stunning looking bike.
Thanks, and yes you're right it loks even better in the metal than it does on screen
I've been lurking for a while now.... Nice review. I like your style. The mix in this review between on and off the bike audio is a good refreshing change to most others. Keep going!
Thank you
4:31 Thank you so much you legendary RUclipsr. I have been searching far and wide to get some more info on the connectivity portion of the new control unit. For some reason everyone else just glosses over this piece as if it's not a selling point by itself. Again, thank you very much for clarifying the capabilities of this new TFT display and how the smartphone app interacts with it.
No problem Lane, its an important option to cover in the review for me. Glad It was helpful
I like the moto-vlogging on test rides for the unfiltered “as-it-happened” feel and commentary.
thanks
Great video, loved the mix of live commentary and voice-over!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great looking bike, and fantastic review. Like the mix of audio: considered opinion voice over along with immediate reaction ride commentary
Much appreciated!
Picked my black edition up 2 weeks ago. You are spot on with the all rounder experience. As a 20+ year rider of many different bikes, this is the easiest to ride and super fun when you want it to be.
Shame about the weather😢
Cheers
Great review thanks, had mine 3 weeks and LOVE it!!
Cheers, and I’m not surprised
Very good video, thank you !! I just picked mine up yesterday - have had a chance to put many miles on it yet... cheers
Cheers and enjoy the bike!
Fantastic review. Thanks for going into depth, but making it really simple to folllow 👌
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent review!!! Enjoyed the quick shifting phase.
Glad you liked it!
Great review and the mix of voice over and live recording hits the sweet spot for me 😃
Glad you enjoyed it
This is an exciting Honda Bike and review! I just love the Honda for its looks and its endurance! Excellent review! Every base was touched just enough to give me a complete picture of the CB1000R. Like you, I think the extra money is worth it for the Black edition! Great bike by Honda, Excellent Review!
Thanks Roger, much appreciated
I like your style of commentary no matter how or when it is delivered. This is another top notch review but at 2m I think I'm going to be too lanky for this particular bike, dammit!
Thanks Keith, the seat height is 830mm and the pegs are reasonanbly low but 2m is tall!
Its clear you put a lot of work into making really excellent videos, fair play to you
Thank you, nice that its appreciated
Awesome review! This is one beautiful bike. Love the black edition. Thanks for sharing.
thanks and no problem
Nicely edited video - appreciated! I have the 2018 (black) and I nicely painted the radiator shroud, “windscreen”, and cover for the air box and I think it looks great. There were just too many splotches of silver everywhere that just broke up any continuity.
Love the new rims on the 2021 and if they did something to hide the collector box and header pipes that all is great. My only dislike is the light. This already was borderline “retro” but the MV Augusta type light makes it less retro in my opinion. With nearly 20k miles on this bike, it still runs perfect! The maintenance schedule, oh boy it’s pretty much change the oil and check other fluids. Zero issues. Only gripe are the tires...they are great, but they are high performance tires; so unless u do that kind of riding (which let’s be honest u really can’t on a naked, the wind at 90 mph starts to push on your chest) id go for a tire with some more durability.
Thanks Martin
I think it looks much better than the last version especially the dash great video as always 👍👍
Thanks! 👍
Presentation style is a good balance. Agree with Steve Steve, keep it as it is. Keep them coming.
Thanks, will do!
Great review, thanks so much! I think now this is on my shopping list :)
Glad it was helpful!
I can’t wait to get mine on may!!! Keep the good work fantastic review on a awesome bike!
Thanks Geraldo and enjoy!
Great review! Love the format and enjoyed the commentary! Well done!
Much appreciated!
Great video, made me make my mind up and just brought a used black edition from virtue honda 👍
Great review, thanks for the insight in this wonderful piece of machinery! 😍
Thanks for watching!
2 yrs into mine, town and track days love it...Will have another..👍
Nice, thanks for sharing
Love this ..... my kinda geeky level of detail. Just fully blacked out my own bike
They’ve done a great job of it
Your presentation's are excellent! Always enjoy your video's! Keep up your great efforts. From the other side of the water--- ILLINOIS,U.S.A.
Thanks Larry, that means a lot 👍
i prefer the way you did this video. good quality and informative.
Cheers
Quality vid, professional level editing. The bike is quite possibly my next steed. Can I ask what leather jacket you’re wearing in this vid please
Thank you! It’s still possibly my favourite big naked bike. The jacket is a Goldtop Easy Rider. goldtop.co.uk/collections/jackets/products/the-72-easy-rider-jacket?variant=37942696247467
Great video! If I didn't already have a Triumph Street Twin in the garage, I'd seriously consider getting this one!
Keep up the great work! Current style of footage and commentary is perfect 👍🏻
Cheers John
I feel the same but my street twin is fast enough for me. Love the looks of the Honda but I don’t think I could justify the extra running cost of a 1000cc bike. Enjoy your street twin, I’m really pleased with mine, no issues so far.
@@user-rf9me7xm1w Absolutely. 900ccs on the Twin is plenty for me, too. I've been very happy with mine 😁
Excellent video Tony
Mix of voice overs give great variety I'd say
Was that the WW1 aerodrome at Stow Maries?
Thanks Nigel, no its a local little private airfield
I started dreaming 💭 riding this machine while watching your video amazing review and great explanation about machine keep it that way now .
Glad you liked it!
Lovely looking bike. Good to see Honda back on the quality, good looking bike program again. Quick question what is the video mount set up you are using. I would like something like that for the tours I do rather than just the side mounted GoPro set I have. Mixed commentary works for me as I always think that commentary done afterwards detracts from the 'real' riding experience.
The mount on the helmet? Its just a cheap short curved arm from ebay, like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HELMET-CURVED-EXTENSION-ARM-MOUNT-SET-for-GOPRO-CAMERA-HD-HERO-ACCESSORIES-KITS/184629515107?hash=item2afcc6d363:g:CdYAAOSw6DxeKFCn Once I got it in place I just replaced the thumbscrews with bolts leaving just the camera mount as a thumbscrew
I have chosen the CB 1000 R. I had the CB 900 HORNET at the time and the CB 1000 R seems to me to be a step forward. The CB 650 R is very sweet and manageable, I totally agree with that, but it lacks a bit of spark for my taste.
I've got a 2020 CB1000R+ and I absolutely love it. My only concerns 4k+ miles in is the rear shock is not fit for purpose and the throttle when in Sports is extremely snatchy, almost dangerous I would say when going around and out of bends. Surprised you didn't mention either of these issues in the review! I understand a lot of that is to do with meeting emissions regulations and it's only a map away, but it could be better. 140bhp is also plenty for the road, front end lifts up to 3rd gear when you hit the right revs, I like that it's manageable and user friendly in that respect. Great review :)
Thanks for your comments, in answer to your question. Firstly this is a 2021 MY bike so I don’t know if it’s running the same shock. Also I haven’t had the benefit of riding it for 4000 miles, so wouldn’t be aware of any inherent problems with it. I also didn’t find the throttle snatchy in Sports mode, more responsive yes, snatchy no, so perhaps they ironed out that problem in the new bike? Thanks for watching and commenting, it’s much appreciated
Really enjoyed the format, spot on 👍
Cheers
nice content as always, nice music, thx mate
Cheers
I would love to go get one for summer but can't afford. What puts me off is can't put a pillion on it !!??? The video is ok because can hear the great sound of the bike as well as your commentary! It's good format!!!
This special edition comes with the cowl. The standard bike has a pillion seat, which you can always fit to this bike. Thanks, i've stuggled with helmet audio for ages whicg is why i stopped using it, but my new mic seems to be doing the trick
Would certainly like to see legislation introduced for an LED DRL bar or ring in a colour (Suggest green) for the headlamp. So that in a mass of headlights on a busy road it would be easier for car drivers to identify a motorcycle in the mix. Good review👍, nice bike.
Interesting idea and cheers
That is one beautiful machine good job on the video
Good stuff. Review style seems good to me !
On the bike, the TFT looks like a significant improvement over last years inverted LCD. On a test ride last year, I had an issue seeing the 2020 display. Honda need to get rid of the inverted LCDs off the rest of their bikes. My former 2018 CB125R was a nightmare to see in bright sunlight. CB500X I test rode, that was a bad display too !
Yes A bit improvement, the dash was one of the few things i didnt like about the CB650R, I guess they'll move right across the range at some point
Nice review as always..REAL world .... had the 2019 version...nice bike
Cheers Andrew
Just had my cb650r last Friday. Already called the dealership to take it back and get myself the cb1000r black edition. 650 is sweet and nice tho this 1000 is a demon 😊
It’s a lovely bike to ride
Beautiful bike ! If I didn’t love my 2005 Busa so much I’d be looking at that new CB
I really like it
Excellent review ... one of my basis for deciding to go for this bike... kudos!
me too, get mine tomorrow. I can finally stop watching reviews and start experiencing it.
Glad I could help!
Nice, I had a serious case of the wants after riding it!
Good review and great format!
Cheers Mark
I’m just gonna buy it. I had the 2015 cb1000. This looks twice as good 👍
Its a lovely machine for sure
The best looking retro without doubt 👌
Agree, really lovely looking machine.
Does the new tech pack include an IMU and cruise control? Starting to shop around for a nice highway commuter and backroad weapon
Like your mix style, it’s your own. What a bike eh. Awesome.
Thanks Jon
The sliver hex bolts stand out so much wish they blacked it out too
Really liked the talk while riding
Cheers
Quality, beauty, reliability
Yep
Like all your stuff. Like this bike, too. Except the new headlight, that is. maybe, it will grow on me.
Cheers Geoff, I wasn’t sure about it at first but I think it fits with the style a bit better now
Beautiful bike
It's the only in-line 4-cylinder motorcycle I'd think of buying.
I prefer 2 cylinders in line or in V
Great video
It sure is and thanks!
@@mancavemoto Not a fan of the Kawasaki z900RS then? In fact it would be good to see those two head to head!
Sir, great video. Thank you!
Very welcome
Great review buddy , wish I could afford one , cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
Cheers, me too
It's absolutely gorgeous!
It is isn't it
Thx for the review man!
I'm wondering about the heat it generates, as i've seen lots of 1 litre bikes thats like super hot in my region, as i live in a hot area. Is it hot enough that you can feel the heat?
No problem, the bike manages to deal with the heat and I didn't notice any problems. Mind you it probably only got to about 16c whilst I had it
Awesome review of a great looking bike. Can you please share how is your gopro mounted on the chin of your helmet. I have the same Shoei RYD and got a Gopro for birthday but I can't figure out how to mount it on the chin due to that huge intake vent on the helmet...🤔. Thx.
Thanks, it’s mounted on the side of the chin with a short curved arm. Like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133518436292
Hey mate, great video.
I’m wondering about the engine vibration that was an issue with the last model?
It does feel smoother
im really starting to want one of these its the first naked that i just love the look of,, cool bike
Its a lovely thing, i could definitely be tempted by one
I love this bike
This is a nice looking bike I always liked blacked out bikes with the machined aluminum bits.
Nice Review.
142 hp still sounds like a ticket maker. 😆
Potentially yes ;)
It looks like towards the end of the video you stopped for some scooters. Were they in trouble? If so, it was a nice gesture.
Like others, I like the mix of 'live' commentary and added narration - too much of the latter can detract from the visceral feel of a live review.
Yes I spotted them from the other carriageway and as I wasn’t far from home so stopped to see if they needed anything. Cool thanks for the feedback
Very good review friend!
Thanks RJ
Talk while riding, voice over is fine but I prefer talk while riding 👍🏽 great review.
Ok thanks!
Cool video...great job! 🏍😎👌
Thanks! 👍
The action shots you get are fantastic.
Thanks
I was about to make the purchase on the 2022 model until I learned it doesn’t have an IMU. All it’s competition in the 1000 cc size have an IMU. I love most everything about this bike and it’s looks are beautiful. Is not having an IMU a show stopper?
For me probably no, I found it to have such predictable ‘neutral’ handling that I could love without cornering traction control and ABS
The 2018-2020 model had people complaining about a flat spot in the power band around the 4-5 rpm mark. Is this still there and if it is do you think a simple ecu flash would remedy it? Great review thanks, I ride a Z900rs and have always liked this gen cb and it’s on my short list for my next bike.
to answer my own question, yes it is there, I took one for a test ride, I still bought one and pick it up tomorrow. it is even nicer looking in person in my opinion and I think that a full exhaust and tune will improve the midrange pull.
@@KB-yj5xp Thanks for that...'18 Z900RS owner myself with 9K miles. Still love and prefer the looks of my bike but this new edition of CB with more power and subtle improvements is tempting as the only thing I am missing (not really but if I had to mention one thing) is little more power (QS is nice) and more top end. So question for you, does it feel quicker than Kawi and how is the throttle? I have put Ivan's Performance Tune on mine to mitigate some of the issues on my bike and it worked for the most part. Thank you
Honda cb1000r is a highly overlooked bike. If Ducati came up with it. Every Tom, Dick and Mo would be singing its praises
Thats true
I wanted a ducati. Single sided swing arms are gorgeous. But i got one of these (2018) model for the same price as a 12 yr old monster. More power, japanese reliebility and honda fit and finish. Couldn t be happier.
Great review…👍🏻
Thank you
If I ever decide to go 1000 this is the only bike I'd get
Buying it. Thanks
Have fun!
Like this bike it's got character and looks retro not overkill on the PS too enough umph for me
Awesome vid. What 360 cam is that? I'll probably sell my 2016 CBR 300R that I purchased new 5 years ago next month. I'm hoping I can find a leftover new 2021 CB1000R for around $10k USD when the time comes for me to buy one in 2022.
Cheers, it’s filmed with an Insta360 One X2. There’s a link in the description
Good stuff, beauty
It sure is
Wish they make the bolts black for a truly blacked out bike.
Well reviewed...and sensibly done....no drama queen antics....😒next please...😉I like my 2014 well enuff....until I can get the turbo..😳
Thanks
Excelente. Saludos desde Costa Rica.
Cheers!
What a pretty bike.
nice video. nice bike
The Black Edition looks amazing to me. Just wonder if it's too refined to enjoy on some more spirited rides along the countryside.
Not at all, its an absolute blast
@@mancavemoto I like the overall looks of this over the Mt-10 but have been wondering if it will be as much fun to ride. Btw, this is my first time seeing one of your videos. Your delivery and word content is very good.
Stunning bike. The best-looking litre inline four. I agree with you about the indicators. Potentially very dangerous. I am going to buy my last big bike early next year, but I want it to have a DCT gearbox, so this is out of the question. Any chance of testing the Rebel 1100 DCT, Tony?
Excellent review again.
It really is, I wasn’t expecting to be quite so enamoured with it. There must be a way of switching the running lights off, most other DRL’s have that function. They’ll be along line, but I’m hoping to get into a CMX1100 👍🤞🏻
great review, how different are the ego's from the 2020 model, I have been told the handlebars are higher
I’ve not ridden the previous model very much, but this one did seem to be a bit more ‘open’ I think the bars are slightly higher and the pegs very slightly lower. That’s how it felt anyway
@@mancavemoto thank you
Call me when they use the VFR1200 V4 motor to make a real naked bike contender.
