    I think the men should be able to have a 6 member team b/c the men have 6 events.

      @kommisar. Месяц назад +4

      Yeah, I don't know why they reduced the number of men allowed on the team. It makes it so fewer gymnasts have opportunities now too.

      They should have 7 men for 6 events since there are 5 women for 4 events.

      @@kommisar. Two reasons: The thought was that the sport was starting to trend away from all arounders to specialists. Smaller teams mean more people have to do more events - in theory. Secondly, the move to smaller teams was to give an opportunity for smaller countries who don't have the population size to produce great depth a chance to be competitive with the larger countries that can.

      @@m.e.dexter1907 Well now that we've seen those ideas didn't pan out whatsoever (the same countries remain in the Olympic cycles and the only change has been adding Britain to the top 5), they should go back to the 6 or 7 man format.

    I know John was joking about how people tune in for Simone but not for his skill, but I actually think that's a HUGE point. Gymnastics now is about who can do the hardest thing, creative skills aren't rewarded or cared about. I would LOVE it if the code on both sides rewarded creativity in some way and commentators talked about it, then people might be interested.

    Very unexpected standings at the end. I think Malone is just as good as Mikulak was during his prime, but seems to have much more fortitude to handle the pressure at the international competitions. The guy never looks nervous.

      Could have already been a problem and the fall irritated it. You never know what kind of injuries these guys are suffering from. They're not always the major stuff that causes them to have to wear a brace or whatever. They all have multiple little problems, even if nothing serious or crippling.

    Tim really needs to work on not comparing gymnasts to each other… “it’s good but not as good as so & so..” really sets a negative mindset. Every gymnast can be great in their own way. No one is the same as the other.

      In gymnastics competitors receive scores from judges. Some scores are higher than others. Some routines are objectively better than others. This isn’t a 6th grade talent show, explaining that a routine is not up to the standard of another is a natural part of commentary and helping people understand the sport. Pointing out what makes individual gymnasts great, as well as what their weaknesses are are both parts of giving well rounded commentary. They exist in a sport that is based on an achieving the unachievable - perfection. They can take it.

      @@rubyjones274 In the past I've heard Bart Conner and John Rothlisberger cover the NCAA competitions, and they do a MUCH better job than Tim. I wish they would use those two, because they provide MUCH more technical commentary. Even though John is here, but he barely ever talked. At least when he did though, it was always something insightful or worth saying.

    There are so many other talented gymnasts with great performances that get pushed aside in favor of just a few athletes along with the replay waste and the do nothing shots of drinking water, taking off tape, or giving a thumbs up. It’s funny how the meet itself is about 2.5 hours and the broadcast is 2 hours. Just annoying.

    Men's Gymnastics is so Soulless. So what if they are skilled, where is the dancing? The music? The artistry? Why don't they ever smile? People wonder why women's gymnastics is watched and Men's is not, its because the women know how to be entertaining on top of doing everything else. Simone does "a man's" vault in a leotard, make up and sparkles. If I want to watch a man grunting for 2 hours, I can watch my husband clean the house.
    Also, side note? Why the heck is there no female commentator? USA Gymnastics gave the women's gymnastics 1 female out of 3 commentators and the men's gymnastics 0 out of 3. If there is 2 male commentators on the women's program, there should at least be 1 in the men's.

    • @joyfuljaj
      @joyfuljaj Месяц назад +1

      Showing "soul" can be done in multiple ways. Did you not watch the men celebrating successful routines? Only recently have women gymnasts felt the freedom to do that and I'm glad they now show more excitement on the sidelines than they did when I watched growing up. No one makes the women wear makeup and sparkles; I hope they only do that because they like it. I would prefer the men not wear sparkles or leotards. I do enjoy female commentators and they have had one in the past even during men's events, so I'm not sure why they aren't using one at the moment. I watch men's gymnastics because I appreciate the skill it takes to do what they do. That is entertaining to me. Social media has also enabled me to get to know all the gymnasts a bit more on both the men's and the women's side so I watch because I'm a bit invested in who wins.
