It would be great if you just gave the stack height listed by the brand. I dont feel like your measurements are all that accurate, considering its ALWAYs different than listed specs. Just my opinion
@matthewbeckham7529 Of course they are different. The sample size specs are going to be smaller as the shoe is smaller. I’m a uk 11. Shoes get larger as the size increase. That includes the stack height.
Actually the stack height listed by the brand can be wonky at times. I was interested in Gel-Trabuco 11 and Fuji Lite 4, so I looked up their specs on Asics Canada and found the listed stack height of the Trabuco 11 strangely low.
Picked this up before your review. Excellent balance and you’re spot on if you’re a heel striker stability can be compromised. But we need to stay off the heel anyway right? Great review as always Ed!
I’m an ASICS Fujilite 5 man right now and it’s epic! This could be my next move as I know it’ll net me a second or 2 extra per k here and there and I’m here for that! Great review thank you! Hope to get these soon ❤
On your recommendation, I ordered! The FujiSpeed 3 is the most fun lighter trail shoe around and works for me even in medium technical Colorado Rockies terrain. I’m thinking that the MetaFuji will be for more rolling and buffed trails in the Foothills or in the high desert.
I'm not a trail runner but love tuning into your videos to see what you think of the shoes, always good to pick up some interesting tidbits even if the content is outside of my current "discipline" of running. Keep up the great content.
it's a great shoe, but I DO HOPE that the next version (PLEASE, ASICS) gets full Turbo, lowers the stack, and gives us 1mm more lug and they'd have a killer. I'd pass on the carbon, just give us a TPU plate and we're set. But this shoe rocks...
It’s still amazing - i went a minute faster to a 5k pb in them at the weekend - its a trail shoe but a bit unstable on the road so just waiting to go over on my ankle soon lol i got them as i thought they were a better winter trainer for the road - they are amazing
Sounds like a great shoe, sharing similarities with the Saucony Endorphin Trail Edge in Hot Pink that is still a favourite shoe to run in across pretty much most terrains and running paces.
I can recommend the Asics Fujispeed 3! I used them for their first run ever (not a wise thing to do I know 😅) at Lidingöloppet 30k yesterday, a very big trail race close to Stockholm, that gathered almost 15000 runners. Really good grip, responsive, fast and light, and cheaper as I bought them at I strongly recommend you to review them as I cannot find any good reviews of that more accessible fast and light trail shoe for road to trail running! Bought it on the internet for less than 120 euros, a great deal, for a light carbon plated trail shoe.
Just purchased a pair, not only have I smashed my PBs on my 20k canal route but all the PBs on road on route to the canal! It’s a yay from me. Love the comfort and feeling, but wouldn’t push them on anything too technical
I've got 2 runs in the MetaFuji now, it's pretty awesome. But it's shoe to use with caution cause it's so lively you really need to watch every step on anything but the smoothest trail and then if your usecase for it is that limited you might as well just be in a road shoe. I'm probably going to use it for a 33km trail race in a few weeks here in New Zealand, there are some trickers parts of that trail but lots that is very runnable so hopefully that plays to it's strength, it's the type of trail when it's dry most road shoe are fine, but if it's wet it gets quite tricky quickly. But I do think to really broaden the use of the shoe they need to drop the stack height a bit and or widen the heal. One thing I'm surprised about is the grip, yesterday I took it up a steeper hill with lots of dry pine needles and the grip was awesome, much better than in the Adidas Agravic Speed.
Got a trail marathon in October and am very tempted to buy these. Was expecting to use the Nike Ultrafly, but this has definitely caught my eye. The price tag is my only hesitation.
I have the Hoka Tecton X 2, and the Salomon S/LAB Pulsar SG 2 for different distances and paces. The Salomon are so light with lots of grip for technical trail, and the Hoka's are fire road mile munchers. Great review Ed ❤
A great comparison would be Hoka X3 vs the Asics. I ordered both and decided to return the later as the X3 has better upper, deeper lugs and seemed much more stable. After 3 runs in the X3, I think it’s my all time favourite trail shoe..
Umm the 4th current ASICS "super" shoe might have been interested in that only goes to a UK 12. Oh well, best part of a grand saved and so better stick with my Peg Trail 5 GORE-TEX for off road.
@@EDDBUD yep even the prototype is pretty much Metaspeed Edge+ with Trail outsole, tho if you compare the models the Metafuji Trail is more similar to the JDM Asics S4 than the Metaspeed Edge+ because of the negative drop look and dual foam configuration (Asics S4 also have Edge style carbon fiber configuration)
Good Review. Went with the Adidas Terrex Speed Ultra so I don' t feel like I really need another Trail 'Supershoe'. That Shoe is also not really one for technical Trails but I guess that's just what you get for the soft foam and high stack...
Hello Edd. I enjoyed the review and having bought the shoe last week and had just the single run in it concur with your thoughts on initial impressions. Where I live, I only will use it for very light trails and grass so it works but I can see problems for those wanting to use it on more technical trails due to the issues you mentioned. I used it for a quick speed session on grass and it works well for that. Actually love the lacing system and upper for my purposes. I watched the Asics promo video on how this shoe came about and it was interesting that it was developed from the original Metaspeed road shoe by one of their athletes. I think this is basically Asic's Japan only S4 road shoe tweaked for the trails. Btw, will you be reviewing the new Asics Glideride Max? It just got released here in Australia.
I did consider these but the price just put me off so I plumped for a pair of heavily discounted Ultraflys (€140). Unfortunately, suffering from Achilles tendon issues at the moment so I’ll have to wait until I can try them out.
The reason its a road shoe design and why its using ff turbo and not trubo+ is because its the japan only S4 road shoe. The S4 is effectively what the magic soeed 4 was ment to be and a more layman's edge plus. Its basically the TR version of that shoe. Its a 1 to 1. Slight change in plate design and obviously an outsole change. I don't think its worth 250 bucks when its counterpart is 180. Its also not an ultra shoe. But it can definitely compete as a skyracer and 20k races.
Hi Edd, how does it compare to the Tempo Next % off road? The thing about the Tempo is that the pods absorb uneven ground yet give you great energy return, I think a nylon plate helps too. Do you think this could be a decent alternative in the absence of a Tempo?
Had some poor experiences with other branded carbon shoes, mainly comfort in the forefoot. Looking for a shoe for 50 mile trail manchester to Liverpool. Do you think the metafuji could offer enough support and comfort over that distance? Cheers
I'm trying to decide between this and the FujiSpeed 3, its looking like the latter will be better on the steep, frequently muddy trail I run. Has anyone tried either of these on tricky muddy runs, all the reviews I've found so far don't seem to get much beyond wet grass?
In a bog of recently flooded woodland area it was a little slippery. But any shoe would have been the same. Certainly better than a standard road shoe. The outsole isn’t massively different to the fujispeed.
This might be a good shoe for the summer, but 3.5 lugs as we head into the wet stuff is just shocking..... You Keep banging on about the grip.... Your trails must be mud free in the winter

I'm a uk 10.5/11 and find it useful to know the actual stack, I think you and your dumb comment is a bit wonky to be honest.

Yes a good medium to easy trail options. Bit too tall for some wild stuff

I can see it being an issue on some uneven camber.
Crater Rim?
@@seanmac80 No, Abel Tasman. I'd be very hesitant using this shoe on the Crater Rim, the more technical sections at least
That's the best colorway for a trail shoe I've ever seen! Wow!
It’s a cracking looking shoe
Looking forward to picking these up. Usually run the Norda001 on trail but have been wanting a little more squish which these look to have.
Tons of stack here

I hate running on anything but concrete, but this shoe looks like I need it!
Would be great to see a comparison with the Fuji speed series
Unreal shoe, works as intended. If your use to high stack road shoes then these are unreal on the trails
Yes I really liked their forgiving nature

Good morning. Interesting description. I'm not a elite trail runner. I prefer the Asics trabuco 12. Like from 🇪🇸 Spain. Cheers.
Thanks for sharing!
the carbon shape is full length but there's a cutout on the toe area, also yes its an Edge carbon configuration
It feels more like the edge.

Looks like my Trabuco max 2 with a better foam, funky colourway and lighter lug design. Would probably be a good trail shoe with better lugs.
Picked up Saucony Xodus 3 for £112 thanks to a Vitality Health discount. Liked the look of the Asics Metafuji but £220 is not justifiable for me.
Hi Ed, will you be reviewing any of the new Mizunos?
Might grab the reb pro 2
Any chance to pipe up about the neo vistas! It's fun Edd. I can certify!

Dankeschön! A very interesting beautiful Trail Shoe :)
Thanks for tuning in 👍🏼👊
Could u review the gel trabuco 11 or 12?

Ahhh yes. I remember that shoe.
Its like a blend of fuji speed and trabucco max 2. I just havent got the power to get the best out of turbo foam.
I found you have to really raise the knees and hammer down on it to get some rebound. Though it’s a leg saver for sure
🎉

Looks great. Potential XC shoe do you reckon?
Don’t see why not. Though more hefty than a spike by a mile
These just look like a good time.
Darn good versatile shoe. Even on road

I wouldn’t suggest this is close to the tempo. That’s an out and out blaster for me at pace. Not quite as rigid as this one.
@@EDDBUD thanks, sounds like the quest goes on 🤣

This one is stacked for sure. Felt just as good as a road shoe as a trial model
What do you think about use this model as a road shoe? Best wishes from Brazil!
Why not! It’s fun and reasonably light. Good shout

Las recomiendas para terrenos tecnicos?
No not the best for that due to the height

Hi

I have one trail shoe that I use for xc. My least favourite shoe: Saucony Peregrine GTX. Think it was the 13. Dead as a dodo on foot!
👊🏼🤖‼️
Much appreciated
Is that a good road to trail half marathon shoe?
Could be superb for that
This might be a good shoe for the summer, but 3.5 lugs as we head into the wet stuff is just shocking..... You Keep banging on about the grip.... Your trails must be mud free in the winter
Yes perhaps a little too minimal on the outsole for that
Is it waterproof, and what are the outsole lugs like on the road?
Great on the road. Better than some road offerings!
Waterproof ??
I own the Hoka Speedgoat 5, the outsole faded like nothing I've ever owned, never a Hoka again for me.
They used to be the king of the trail.
@@EDDBUD now the king of the dissolving outsole😄
It wouldn’t last 5 minutes on any of the Hardmoors events I do on the Cleveland Way..
This or tecton x3
Haven’t tried the tecton but as a general cushioned shoe with a multi outsole it’s great
The best shoe to wear if you get lost in the woods. Helicopters will spot you easily.
It’s super bright!
Just got my hands on £500 worth of sun tan lotion, I bought it as an investment.
That will do well down the trail. Flooded. 🤣
