Legal Eagle Spin Characteristics

- Spins are prohibited by the designer. This particular LEU is structurally modified or I wouldn't have done this video. This LE will readily enter a spin but as we see in the vid it resists stabilizing in a fully developed spin and comes out on its own after about a half turn...spiraling out, even with the stick hard back and an elevator with more than normal travel. This Legal Eagle has VGs and a near 30 degree stalling AOA...a non VG LE will likely spin much more enthusiastically. Now that you see how it spins you won't be tempted to try it in yours. Don't do it!
just to be clear, he had to induce the spin, just pulling back and stalling will not enter a spin on that plane, it will nose over and recover
Looks like you have to make it spin
The size of the vertical stabliser helps for sure.
Excellent video, what kind of vortex generators do you have on? Home-made or Microaero ones?
What manufacturer for VGs
How many Hp is this plane? I have bee looking at this plane a coule day s now and i really love how it preforms. Could I make a very small plane with 6.5 hp? 37 pound engine 4 stroke?
I believe it a 45 hp hummelbird 1/2 vw and i think the minimal hp is about 28 to 30 I don't know if I'd want to go that low hp though
@@jamesringler987 28-30 is the hp listed on the legal eagle website. Much more hp than that and it'll end up flying faster than the allowed speed of 64 mph in level flight for ultralight.
37 hp min recommended, 40-45 best
What does VG mean?
Vortex generators
What the incidence of this wing?
2 degrees
I'll make it a point to fly straight & level......... hope your seat belt was snuged up........ did you have a Balistic Parachute on it when you did this ? ......just in case one of those welds let go ?
A ballistic parachute on a legal eagle? Isn't a BRS about $100k? The legal eagle cost $7k. Better off wearing a bail-out rig if you're worried about dying.
@@stcavato brs is max 3.000$
@@dkdanis1340 Wow, found them on aircraft spruce's website. Had no idea these are actually a budget-friendly option for ultralights. Thanks for correcting me
@@stcavato I guess it's relative. Buying a $3,000 item for a $6,000 used Quicksilver, for example, isn't trivial.
What’s the weight of a BRS, that’s an issue perhaps 😊
thanks for sharing, you got some stuff...
Thanks... great vid.
Hey Joe ,you must be a good dancer, plenty of ball room. Cheers Ross From Aussie
Why?
Spins slow like a cub...
