    I'm currently 26 years old, I got out of a 3-year relationship and have been living in Medellin for the last three months and it's completely changed my perspective on life. I've got about 4 sources of income from my own business, to freelancing, Turo & Airbnb so I can maintain the same income wherever I decide to go. I'm currently planning on a south American tour and then I might come back and settle down in Medellin. It's definitely been a scary journey out of my comfort zone, but I had the same reasons as you to want to do this.

      Congrats on making the leap! It's definitely scary and uncomfortable at first, but as they say, "life begins at the end of your comfort zone."

      Congrats on the 5 months, that's 5 months further than most ever make it haha It's all about mindset, once you start thinking outside the box and believe you can build the type of life you want - it can be done. 😊

    You pretty much described my experience of living in Melbourne too - no one really wants to go against the grain there, most people are happy to run on the hamster wheel and go through the motions. Melbourne is comfortable but not exciting for me. Giving it a crack playing music in Mexico City, hoping it all works out! Great content as always, AK

Keep living your dreams and moving towards your goals. Sending greetings from the San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA 🇺🇸 Thank you for sharing, mate. 🙏

    Me hiciste recordar mi niñez en una pequeña ciudad de Colombia. Mis abuelos y padres tenian su pequeño negocio familiar y recuerdo que decian que con uno o dos días de trabajo podian solventar los gastos del resto de la semana, de modo que trabajaban por gusto y no porque la necesidad los agobiara, teniendo más tiempo para la familia, amigos y sus cosas de ahí traemos la costumbre de vivir mas lento. Recuerdo que ellos decian que la comida era lo más barato de sus gastos. No sé como todo ha ido cambiando, pero parece que tenemos que volver a esos tiempos.

      I'm gonna live in Medellin for the foreseeable future - for at least 9 months per year. 1 thing I really miss is the beach and surf though, so I'm currently looking for another spot (probably Brazil) to spend 3 months of the year in and get some waves!

    What was the tipping point for you to make the decision of dropping that 9-5. You must have felt a great amount of fear weeks prior to taking that decision. What propelled you to eventually take the decision drop the job and book that flight? Was there a financial threshold where you felt now is the right time... or is it more of a lesser evil decision: the fear of staying on the path of a mundane life far outweighed the risk of backpacking so it was a no-brainer for you to take that leap?

    • @AKJoel
      @AKJoel  Месяц назад +1

      I never really felt fear, because I wasn't thinking about it as a final decision.
      All I wanted to do was give myself 1 year to see if I could figure it out.
      If I failed to find a way to keep it going after a year, I still would've got 13 years of vacation (13 x 4 weeks off that most people get = 52 weeks) - so there was basically nothing to lose.
      Once I put it in that context and I built enough savings to last me the year, it was actually an easy decision.
