I tried my current job remote in Colombia for a week. The workload was high and I was stuck in my Air BNB all day.. So it felt like being back at home.but I still got to enjoy evenings in Colombia enjoying the culture..
I have a remote consulting business, stay in Medellin for a month every 3 months.. breath of fresh air from daily grind of USA.. love la 70 laureles area 😊
I always liked your first step strategy you did.. Save up enough to quit your job for a few months and travel to the region, then come back and assess what to do next ..
Yeah I feel like everybody needs a few months to contemplate life and reassess their next moves after being stuck in the full time work rat race for so long.
One tip that some may want to consider: do not tell a 1st world country employer from the country where you have been living, that you have moved away. At least in the USA, very few employers will hire someone outside the country, even for a short-term gig. If you still have a US bank account, US phone number (e.g. Google Voice) and some sort of US address (if you are in tech, ideally that should be in one of the main high tech states) and provide that information they will be MUCH MUCH more likely to hire you. You may have qualms about this. You can be vague in your answers without offering information that would be an outright lie. Or you can just realize that these employers (especially in the tech space) are nearly totally without morals and will shaft anyone to make themselves even more richer and not care if you are giving them information that is not "opening the kimono". Your decision. Just know that if you start right up front by emphasizing you live in Colombia you are going to get hung up on quickly for almost any high tech job from an employer in the US and likely in any 1st world country that is not what one would consider menial work in that country.
Lying to your employer is definitely one option, but some people can't sleep at night living like that. For those that can't handle stress, better to just find an employer that will let you work from anywhere - they're definitely out there.
Depending on the company. Some companies are monitoring your VPN and internet address, and other things to determine if you are in the U.S or out. Unless if you are working for a small company that doesn't have the tools to check this. If you want to live in another country, it is best to find opportunities with companies that don't mind were in the world you are. The main issue why they are paying attention to this is "productivity".
Just came back from a 3 week trip. I decided I will move to laureles, I really enjoyed my time in medellin. I'll be pursuing a cyber remote job and hopefully get your medellin masterclass aid to help with the moving. Thanks for all the videos
I’ve tried applying for jobs remotely, no luck whatsoever. I would love to move to Laureles one day! Just sucks that I’m not in a position to move out there now at 25
Give it 3 more years...25 for an american to be in medellin is like ehhh..use these next 3 years to learn life experiences good and bad and trust me when your 28 youll be more bold to be ina place like medellin
Just keep trying mate - also look at what skills you need to learn to build a remote business. I knew nothing 2 years ago and learnt everything myself from RUclips and online courses. Where there's a will there's a way!
I left during the 2008 recession and had a similar situation. I researched Taiwan 🇹🇼, learned that I could make more money negotiating on the ground and sold everything I owned to buy a plane ticket and 60 days of money. I found a full time position after 41 days. This is my 1st time as a Nomad. The company I am contracting with said I could live overseas and sell from abroad. I’m in my 40’s so know that it’s possible.
@@AKJoel I found part time gigs in 20 days but had to take trains to cities/towns I didn’t know. It certainly wasn’t easy, especially because I only knew one person in the country. I also learned you don’t wear a suit for certain types of job interviews and being over qualified is a thing: Even in your late 20’s. Thanks for the kind feedback. Any chance you could inform me which suburbs of reasonable sized cities 🏙️ or districts in Bogota or Medellin where I can spend less than 600$ for a 1-3 bedroom 500-800sqft. I’ve spoken to realtors in Belize 🇧🇿 but not anyone in Columbia. Is AirBNB truly the best way to go for a 1-3 month stay?
I'm not sure about Bogota but in Medellin (in nice neighborhoods) you can't find anything for that price on Airbnb, only through local agencies which are a bit more complicated.
Correct. A lot of them have wised up to VPN use and “spoofing.” The ones that didn’t block me for georestriction aren’t posting any new transcription or data entry opportunities. As such, I’ve moved on to other pursuits.
Hi u doin Joel I’m going to Medellin at the end of the year I be there for 2 or 3 months I’m been going there for the last 4 years … how can I meet you I need an advice… I will like to move there the only thing that I need its a guidance …:
Very true, but it's hard to get a migrant visa (those that count towards residency) unless you have a Colombian partner, a pension or you have money to invest in a local business ($25k+) or real estate ($150k.)
@@AKJoel dang. I was ready to allocate $25k to Joel’s business. I’ll be in Medellin next month. Hotel will probably have another one of those cards to buy a Suite 🤣
@@JustTravelYT while it last yes..but when a coca cola bottle cost 1.50, arepas $1 and a uber ride $25 for 3 blocks then thats when its going to go down , specially dealing with locals who make $5usd daily

not much to go on, your perspective is totally Australian! US and Europe would give you more leeway. But since you don't have experience with the US and EU. the advice is DOA The best thing would be to create a totally automated website that can give you consistent income. Dealing with remote has its downsides especially with tax witholding! and also transferring your funds to an account outside the us can pose legal penalties and to add insult to injury there is the issue with being double taxed. Better to just freelance than to do remote work.
That's why I gave the 2 options - freelance or remote work. Plus I've met plenty of people out here working full time for a US company - some using VPN, others who have permission. So it can be done.

Crowdsourcing jobs are heavily georestricted now. I tried them all. All blocked me for georestriction reasons.

The problem with the digital nomad visa, is it doesn't count towards residency.
