I love that Greg brought on Ras! I'm building an app as we speak for free. For starters, I have ZERO coding experience, ZERO tech experience and if I didn't run out of my 'free tokens' I would've had the app built last night.

The advantage of Bolt over cursor is that it provides infra as well. You just need to have internet connection and a device, you can use your phone as well.
I am non tech guy Greg & Ryan and thanks for making this Pod. I have been fiddling with Cursor and V0. From the last 2 days have been playing with Bolt. This thing is mind blowing
i have seen some developers who have no coding idea but using cursor and gpt to create the saas project and making money! bolt would help them more faster now

I know how get keys etc... but when building using these tools like Claude or v0, What I end up with is a feedback loop where the Ai doesn't;t understand how to build the app without the data or content to build it for. I've yet to find a good beginner video on how to set up backends for these apps, recommendations welcome. 🙏
I loved this video so much I finally decided to build an idea I’ve had. Unfortunately I just spent 12 hours (and $50) going around in circles with Bolt solving the same two problems in circular motion, even with using Claude to guide my discussions. 😢

It half worked for me. I was able to sketch an app, but it quickly got to the point where adding a new feature would cause it to forget an existing one.
I like bolt, but it’s annoying how much it breaks what was working. It’s 1 step forward 2 steps back. I spent far too long on an easy screen as it kept breaking what was working. Frustrating but exciting too. I’m a long time 38 year developer and I can see the benefits especially for already developers.
I think bolt is really going to change how apps are developed. You can take an idea and get a very good mvp created in such a short space of time. The issue I'm finding with bolt though is that when you are working on the app for a few days, you spend more time reminding the tool what the feature should have been in the first place, even when you've spent a long time ensuring you've specified user flows and features in the first place. Is it possible to have a "feature reference" file that the tool can refer to when you ask it to implement a feature that was on the original plan for the app but it couldn't code out because of token limits? Also, DIFF will make this 1000% times better.
unfortunately bolt is not much. its just a single prompt over suannet. it benefits from a very good starting prompt and REPL (stackbkitz)and then you’re getting what you’d normally get from a chat prompt. There is no code graph or understanding of your codebase like cursor. It’s basically a big hack on top of a prompt and no caching. Its one novel approach is using GNU change format like git for its tool calls it makes to update code which keeps the context window small. However that is also its weakness as it will hallucinate hard trying to update multiple areas in the code
I wish these guys mentioned that there was a limited number of tokens pertaining to the number of questions somebody who is trialling the product is allowed. There were too many bugs created by Bolt, including the inability to start the completed code.

I’m getting the same issues trying to deploy. Once you export the code into Cursor, is there an easy way to edit the files and dependencies via prompt engineering while in cursor?
Can say that Bolt or Cursor can’t build apps without proper prompts. You still need to point to API or endless put errors, last 10mins was only to fix deploy 😄. Also to build one form app you definitely don’t need next.js, people went crazy with AI todo everything 🤯
Hi guys it is an awesome demo. Really appreciate everything that you put up for us. I have one simple question, how do we link a python code from the backend onto a next js react framework onto the front end. Is it possible? I tried to do the same, but the same isn't helping out
I just requested a refund from Bolt. Here’s why: I spent 12 hours on bolt trying to get it to build something that I built in 12 prompts on v0 This is likely naive, but do these LLMs responses degrade over time, or as the complexity increases? Once I got the UI and design 80% there, I started making aesthetic requests to change icons or borders. Then it would just proceed to completely abandon entire components we had constructed, or destroy the functionality and devastate the UI. It’s not lost on me the power of these tools to allow someone like me with zero code experience to build a functional front end of any quality, but I don’t understand why it can’t handle minor adjustments without destroying everything. I spent more time trying to get it to restore lost functionality and design than I did actually implementing anything.
I had exactly the same experience. Too much time + tokens needed correcting things that bolt changed. That were good before. Also very annoying not able to revert to earlier versions. Bolt has potential but needs to improve a lot more.
Same almost there, then its wrecked by what should be a small change. Spends all the tokens fixing it. It is very good. but this makes it less efficinet than t just using gpt
@@Businessology. I think if there was a way that you could store a particular set of code once the user has approved it- basically “locking” parts of code or full sets of code- possibly by storing that code in a different way than bolt does so that the LLM can reference that already-constructed component when it rebuilds the code for the next-prompted modification, it doesn’t have to speculate on what it did before and also will not have access to that locked code when it makes a new update. I have a fairly shallow understanding of the way all of these things function from a coding perspective, but it seems to me that if you had the ability to “lock” things, where you can “unlock” them later so that it can update something in that set of code, that would be rad. The problem seems to be, let’s say I want a margin shifted… for some reason bolt decides it’s high time to completely reimagine that entire component and UI lol If you have a way that I could build and then modify the code at a very specific and granular level where it *never* adjusts more than is absolutely necessary to execute the exact specific modification I have requested, I will give you all of the money 😂 Of course if I ask it for a sweeping change across the entire thing, it should also be able to do that, but I think it should look at the nature of my request and ask if it is an aesthetic change or a function change or a UI modification, etc, xyz, and then do its best to narrow down the LEAST work it can possibly do to execute the request, that would help cut down the “hallucination” of what I want done. For example, I asked it very very (painfully) specifically to change the Font size in a component “to make it more clean and minimal” and when it returned the updated code to me it said, “I did this and this…… and also increased the size size of the icons for increased visibility”
It’s good for a simple project but it can’t spot patterns when the code break. These agent will probably be useful if you are building a simple web app but they won’t work if you have complicated logic

The main problem is that Bolt doesn't have backups or version control. It'll fix this pain
The problem seems to be, let’s say I want a margin shifted… for some reason bolt decides it’s high time to completely reimagine that entire component and UI lol
If you have a way that I could build and then modify the code at a very specific and granular level where it *never* adjusts more than is absolutely necessary to execute the exact specific modification I have requested, I will give you all of the money 😂
Of course if I ask it for a sweeping change across the entire thing, it should also be able to do that, but I think it should look at the nature of my request and ask if it is an aesthetic change or a function change or a UI modification, etc, xyz, and then do its best to narrow down the LEAST work it can possibly do to execute the request, that would help cut down the “hallucination” of what I want done.
For example, I asked it very very (painfully) specifically to change the Font size in a component “to make it more clean and minimal” and when it returned the updated code to me it said, “I did this and this…… and also increased the size size of the icons for increased visibility”
The product is great but it's focused on web development, cursor is more flexible and can do all sorts of stuff from rust to opengl stuff.
Just saw the other videos from v0...and now its already beaten? :D
Heck yes. Big sips on this one.
You can edit And save directly in bolt
!!!
@@GregIsenberg I tried to add my thing in the code and it worked.
It’s good for a simple project but it can’t spot patterns when the code break. These agent will probably be useful if you are building a simple web app but they won’t work if you have complicated logic
Great episode
so it is seems the link to fowl ai is off? any ideas for an alternative?
