Thanks for Internet, You Tube and individual sites like this for the Tsunami Overdose of Mahavishnu live albums ! I knew Mahavishnu since their beginning in the 70's, but in the 80's and 90's , it was kind of complete Absence and Nothingness about Mahavishnu albums...Very sad. But with Internet and You Tube, it is a Resurrection, an Epiphany of pure light and sound and genial music that comes again!!
I saw them in Atlanta not too long after this. Originally Argent was opening for them but after waiting almost an hour after Argent’s set John came out and said that Billy never made it from the airport and told us to hold onto our tickets and they would reschedule. About a month later we were treated to an almost 4 hour show with no opening act! It was jaw dropping! One of the highlights of my concert attending life!
Imagine people at Whiskey A-GoGo witnessing that tsunami of tempos and harmonies of astonishing Jazz Rock (not Fusion). Jaws dropped. Wish I was there.
I saw MO right around this time but in a larger venue (Long Beach Arena) and Cobham is much more subdued and laid back here. I remember his drums sounded like thunder with the power he was applying to them.
Jeff's passing prompted me to listen to Jeff Beck Live At Ronnie Scott's where they did a brief piece from Eternity's Breath Pt. 2. It's been in my head ever since, and so I just started listening to the Visions album again since it's been a while. Then within 2 minutes of that, I noticed this post of the upcoming M.O. premiere. Crazy how shit works out like that.
One of the best acid fusion groups to ever hit the states at that time. And Jazz musicians and guitar wizards meditation at same time the synthesizer was in sound with Jan Hammer and Billy Cobham dropping beatz like nobody ever heard. My favorite is "Inner Mounting Flame: Mahavishnu Orchestra 😎
@@mrjonrickly On ELP's 1972 world tour The Mahavishnu Orchestra was the opening act for ELP on the first six shows that began their world tour. Denver on March 21st. Long Beach on March 22nd. The two Santa Monica shows on March 23rd. And the two San Francisco shows at Winterland on March 24th and March 25th.

Thank you for saying it is Jazz/Rock and not Fusion! Fusion is what was played much later in the '70s.
Lane Holdsworth and now Beck. Maha J is about all we have left 😢
And he's still killin' it. Saw Shakti play in Boston last fall, and it was mind blowing.

Okay, Billy is Panamanian. He was born in Colon. However, he and his family moved to the USA when he was six and Billy grown up in Brooklyn, New York.

Mahavishnu Orchestra 😎
I was at this show. Absolutely beautiful and groundbreaking music.
I was also there. About a week after they opened for ELP at the Santa Monica Civic.
