  • Part one details how to build a 1:20.3 scale wood truss bridge on an outdoor railroad.
    We had always planned a detailed wood truss bridge near the Never Mine at the north end of our garden (outdoor elevated) railroad. The time has come! As it's way too hot to work outside, 101º F, we are working inside on the bridge for outside. Taking the structures out to check alignment and working inside with the AC cranked!
    The bridge is mostly red cedar with some basswood. Everything is bolted together as well as glued. Critical joints are glued with Gorilla Ultimate Outdoor glue. As well as bolted!
    Part one covers the building of the wood truss. Part two covers truss rods, track, guard rails, and stain-paint.

    I was a rural mail carrier for years. A guy on my route built a 1:1 scale Howe Truss bridge on his property. Everyday I saw his progress on construction. He enclosed it and made it a covered bridge but from the inside you could see all the beautiful work. It became a place for his family get together.

    09:00 I hope you've taken into consideration that the wood you're using for the truss bridge will need protection for the elements. Perhaps, a protective paint for wood of some kind would do the trick? Your design and style you've chosen for the truss bridge looks fabulous by the way. 👍
    I hope your chase of 4014 ended well. 👍😊

      Right now it’s just the wood oil. But after it’s finished I’m going to use Thompsons Water Seal. I don’t like the shiny finish. But that does diminish after time.

    Looks great !!. Glue thought , you might try Weldwood waterproof wood glue next time. It works nicely and holds tight during winter.

    Its crazy to think how strong the cement ties are that hold down the train tracks in place in certain places of america , but that does make sense and i hope railroads continue to do that for future projects.

    Yes you can never have too many clamps. For outdoor glue, get some Titebond 3 from HD which is waterproof and is as easy to use as white glue.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  2 месяца назад

      This is supposed to be the best outdoor glue. But it’s a bit of a pain to use. Don’t get it on your hands! It doesn’t wash off. And leaves a weird coating like violin rosin.
