Zuletzt machte De Niro Schlagzeilen mit seiner öffentlichen Meinung zu US-Präsident Donald Trump. In seiner Dankesrede bei den Tony Awards sagte er nicht viel außer „Fuck Trump“. Auch in einem anonym veröffentlichten Video spricht De Niro klare Worte zu Trumps Politik und Einstellung und droht ihm mit einem Schlag ins Gesicht.
