Great topic for a video! Im in the middle of swapping a 370z 6speed (basically the same as cd009) into my mk4. I recommend taking an angle grinder to the flange between the body and tail housing of the transmission. Grind away as much as possible from top corners (there is plenty of excess material) Even after that you will still have to pound the tunnel, but just a little!
Also if you're using a concentric slave you need a bigger master cylinder. Idk about the fork type slave

robert purnell I'm about to start putting my cd009 in my sc300, I was wondering if you couldn't circle the "important" areas to specifically remove material from on a picture and email it to me? Thanks.

lets take a moment to be real, here on Transmissions.
The W58 was only ment for basic driving, its wont hold torque at all, the R154 is costly to begin with, and you have to get it built to withstand and hold the power down, for his goals and long term benefit...the 350z trans is the way to go monetary and part wise. We need to stop glorifying the V160 or V161 because parts for the V16O are not common, they are becoming extinct at a good rate. Who wants to buy a 5k+ trans, when it comes to rebuild time your still having to pitch in more likely what a NEW CD009 cost. You can still buy the updated CD009/CDOOA off Nissan or conceptZ or even Z1 motorsports. Not every 350z trans you find is going to be a CD009, they were about 10 different revisions of the 350z trans, until the CD009 made the bucket list with good rep. I actually applaud the guy doing this, The Majority of Supra Purist, Have no clue about this swap and take it very offensive, just like the Z32 community. This is the future and with that also the T56 swap, preferably the TR6060. Even with the swap in most people will still doubt, but I wanted to take the time to congratulate the guy, and tell him that. One more thing, most the hybrid 2jz Z32's ive seen have had to beat the trans tunnel, sorry to burst the bubble, but you just might have to, Good Luck!!

Jose DePaz this. Cd009 is my choice for a new trans. R154 is pricey as fuck for a 5 speed

PURE Function how can I be sure the transmission I'm looking at is a CD009 how do you differentiate between all of the different models? please help

    • @2jimmycrackcorn
      @2jimmycrackcorn 7 лет назад

we gotta fix it it HAS to have "CD009" stamped/pressed into the casing. If you find one, request a picture of any writing on the outside of the trans.

"the R154 is costly to begin with"... I bought my R154 for $1,500 a few months back. To have it rebuilt... That's another thing obviously. For roughly $3K, I could have a built R154. This includes the price of the transmission, and the rebuild price, etc also. I just wanted to add this regardless of being somewhat irrelevant.

I have jzx81 mark II with a v161 speed swap done. I had to beat the tunnel in to make it fit. If done right you will never notice. Just don't do it more than you have to. Always check your driveline angles when you are done with swap.

My friend did this swap to his supra here in japan couple years ago. He let me drive his car. I was impressed how well this car shifts compared to my rebuilt v161 transmission. His swap was a lot cheaper than my v161 swap lol.

I believe for SEMA anyone can attend now if you are exhibitor that might be different or if you're buying a booth. I have a SC300 myself and I'm planning on doing similar work to it. Great channel I'll definitely be sharing your videos!

Good vid man. The white board will help out alot with you AND us following. So that we can see what all is involved. I chose to go with the Grannis tremec full swap. High price tag, but at least everything I need comes in a box. So Im not chasing parts. Plus/mainly Im not beating the tunnel at all. Should fit perfectly. Keep up the good work...

JackTeh Ripper In an earlier video he mentions the issues current MKIV owners go through with the tranny. Now there IS a kit to got manual for our cars. The issue is the v160 has parts that are harder to come by if not discontinued. let alone the price for the tranny is already the same price as buying a used car. So in the end using the CD009 would be a more economical route.

Coming from the 350Z world I can vouch for the power and smoothness of the newer 350Z transmissions. I had an 03 turbo with an older trans and blew it up and ended up with a cd007 trans and absolutely loved it. Much smoother and took a beating from me as I never drove my car soft.
Pure function, do you have a machine shop weld the bell housing on? Or welder or what. This type of stuff is a bit new to me.

Keep up the videos! I'm considering the exact same swap for my auto tt supra! I'm a little strapped between this and the t56 due to the jigsaw of parts you need for the cd009. And that you have to run weird clutch setups/ lightweight flywheels + the internals are non serviceable. As opposed to the t56 where you have more clutch options with normal flywheels, replaceable internals and a warranty because you won't be cutting anything up. The initial costs are $$$ with having to swap to the 9" diff, I'd want something as close to the v160 ratios as possible. I also think the t56 is a more robust build with less chatters and unpleasant noises at idle like the clutch shutters and random transmission noises. So super excited to see how this goes, it will determine my path!

I thought he had a built R154...? Why the hell is he running the junk manual W58 in a A80...? He was better off sticking with the V160/161... Unless his car came as an A340E (W58) automatic.

There was no reason to resort to name calling... I don't watch all your videos, nor do I keep track of them; I've seen a handful of your videos in random order (not subscribed - so video updates, etc). I randomly come by your videos, and watch them sparingly. I do in fact usually check dates, etc on the videos I watch, and even check the description box for further literature. I only watch your videos for the seemingly rare useful tips you might throw into the video to help expand my learning as I'm new to this side of the car world. I've seen your video where you had a built R154 first, and then came by this one months later... Instead of calling me an "idiot", maybe you could have resorted to "confused" or better yet... You could have been cool about it, and linked me to your video confirming that you in fact do have an R154 installed or you could have simply corrected in a respectful manner. As it is... You know nothing about me, and I know nothing about you. I'll apologize for my seeming rash comment. It wasn't my intention for it to come off the way you seem to have took it. My approach could have been better as could your reply. It's not like I was insulting you or anything, so you didn't have to insult me for a mistake brought upon by confusion, and out of order video watching. I've seen your videos about the built R154 as I was researching into them before I bought one, and last I knew that's what you had installed. Again, sorry for getting confused, and mixing videos up. I can't help, but notice your comment seems grammatically off.
