Honestly, I don't think Zappa is all that underappreciated or misunderstood or underrated as a guitarist and all that. Just because EVERYBODY doesn't think he's as phenomenal as we all do doesn't mean he's some obscure outsider artist. I mean he's got a lifetime achievement grammy and he's in the rock n' roll hall of fame. He's VERY well known and respected.
Oh, and DAMN this is good! All the unison lines between the various instruments are SO well executed. To be so tightly knit with intricate lines like that.
faultandfracture 'scuse the pedantry but it's marimba/guitar and synth...don't forget The Dynamic Tommy Mars! Or,for that matter,Robert Martin who eventually joins in on sax.
And what’s even more insane is that Frank thought all of that up and wrote it down, then split it into the individual player parts, and got them all to remember it so they could play it in their sleep!!
I've got 41 of his vinyls,. pristine condition, i inherited from my old man. They met many times in Schenectady new york before he made the move to cali. I agree with you. .. took the words right out of my mouth... today's music is at an all time low. Nobody wants to listen to music.... They just want to hear beats that they can still bullshit snd use their phone overtop of. Fot instance of my older brother is a concert pianist but nobody wants to go to those concerts LOL he's literally a savant on the piano and has never made a dollar from it not that he's tried but still... There are still some real listeners in the metal and rock community though, along with some extremely talented bands (Opeth, Mastodon, Elder) that have less views in a lifetime than justin beiber gets in s day... Especially Elder. Listen to" Elder-, sanctuary" right here on theTube. Much love to all of you, spread Franks music to everyone you can, and be caring even im times of plight and frustration. Lastly, pick up that instrument you've always wanted learn.... We can only regret the things we don't try
That Steve Vai interview where he spoke about witnessing the greatest guitar playing he’d ever heard during one of Frank’s rehearsals, gave me goosebumps just thinking about it. It would be incredible if it actually was recorded and was sitting in FZ’s vault just waiting to be found….
I was fortunate enough to see this line up in Minneapolis 1981 . Tommy Mars, Chad Wackerman and all... ‘twas the pinnacle of my concert watching. I stayed straight the whole show and I’m glad I did for that one 💯
Jaysus christ...how do you put 15 great musicians together, make 'em sound like shit, then go on letterschmuck & say they weren't rehersed well enough? Be Jerk Zappa I guess. RIP.
You don't have a fucking *CLUE* what you're talking about pal. So, who were these 15 musicians that "sounded like shit" and what year and what band are you referring to? I know Zappa inside out and there was never any of his bands that "sounded like shit"....*EVER.* In fact the only band that had anything near 15 musicians, apart from the classical orchestras he worked with, was the Grand Wazoo band and they were phenomenal!
So you're in all likelihood talking about 1983 after the LSO recordings. This sounds like shit? As a point of fact, music like that needs more rehearsals than that got. He still went with it, because reality. What is this "15"? Do you have no idea what a symphony orchestra even the fuck is? The remarks place in the context of being candid with the people that will buy the record. You're projecting some *real* jerky shit there, bud.
I think these clowns see others who understand what FZ was about and are jealous that they don’t. They don’t have either the musical taste or the patience to get into it and it frustrates them, so they lash out. It’s pathetic.

Great musician, listen to transitions in Conehead --- flawless
One of the most mis-understood and underappriciated geniuses of our time. He should be revered by all and loved by most. RIP, brother.
Wow. As a guitar player, I think Frank's playing is very underrated. He was a composer, and his band were always fucking amazing.
This the kind of lounge music that would be playing inside of Salvador Dali's Brain.
+Alex Greggary probably, yes.
This is the coolest sequence i have ever heard on electric guitar 🎸
It doesn't get any better than this.

Ed Mann and Robert Bobby Martin some of the Best musicians Frank Zappa EVER had.
This was actually on Mtv hard to believe but true THE ENTIRE concert its on DVD right now on amazon.
that xylophone/guitar solo from 3:42 is just completely insane!!
faultandfracture 'scuse the pedantry but it's marimba/guitar and synth...don't forget The Dynamic Tommy Mars!

Come on guys... Don't forget the drums. The great Chad Wackerman doesn't miss a single beat of the solo. He's a beast.
The version on make a jazz noise here is even more amazing with a whole horn section doing it
and Tommy Mars on the keyboards.
And what’s even more insane is that Frank thought all of that up and wrote it down, then split it into the individual player parts, and got them all to remember it so they could play it in their sleep!!
The fact that this only has 26.000 views shows me whats wrong with the World in 2021. This deserves 10 x the views.
Right? Best shyte ever.....it just doesnt get better.

The greatest guitar playing I've ever seen in my life was Frank warming up backstage palladium Halloween 81 Steve V∆!

Inarrivabile!!!!
Amazing tune! Never get tired of listening to it..!!!
Absolute GENIUS! Amazing musicians, among them a 21yr Steve Vai!

Jazz isn’t dead it just smells funny…
THAT GUITAR IS SMOKING
Another fantastic solo!
Very cool sister composition to 'Inca Roads'.
Or moggio
Interesting you say that as I’m currently recording this song as part of a medley with Inca Roads x
GOD bless Frank and his family. See you on the other side. God bless America 🇺🇸.
Something happens at 4:02. Some kind of transition. Don't know what it is, but it's magic to my ears. I think it's the way Wackerman drummed it.
Steve Vai signature lick at 1:49 in Frank's solo
Ehm, no. That was a Frank Zappa signature lick that Vai would have ripped off FZ!
Exactly ;)
Daniël Wijma
Oh, right, I see what you mean.
The maestro!
I've got a guitar like that and an amplifier like that but I can't play like that. 🤠
What a genius...
Maybe they couldn't play Mo 'n Herb's Vacation or something. You never know.
masterbation with instruments
I guess music is not your thing pal. But neither is spelling. Masturbation maybe is?
@@wakajawaka ... maybe he misspelled Mr Jakejerkobsen.
I like the original guitar solo better
1:48 hiccup
Can barely hear the bass in this version.
Stuart Morrow it's loud af in my headphones right now
It's louder in the mix on YCDTOSA Vol. 6
Does anybody know what synthesizer Tommy Mars is using to play the main melody?
Arp 2600
EML ElectroComp 101
@@midibob Your answer is better than mine - the Arp has sliders instead of knobs, cheers.
Strange music
O terror de Steve Vai. 😅
Complex but I don't like the actual song LOL It's like complexity for complexity s sake
