I remember back in the day when Three Dog Night ruled the radio with songs like One, Joy To The World They Show Must Go On, Black and White, and so many others
Three Dog Night were the masters of re-working a song that didn't go anywhere for someone and making it a hit (and making the writer a lot of money). They became the go-to band for songwriters.
This song was a huge hit..I'm glad you got to see them live..I would now suggest to also listen to the studio version...So That You can hear it the way we did the first time..
This was the first 45 I bought with my own money at the tender age of 10 years. Three Dog Night was my favourite band until I discovered prog rock 3 years later. Still brings a smile to my face. Thanks for the reaction!
Awesome reaction 💪🏼👏🏼 Yeah THREE DOG NIGHT definitely a VOCAL BAND I absolutely love them the next song you should do next is the song called JOY TO THE WORLD it's probably one of the most popular songs I bet you've heard but anyway Keep up the good work 💪🏼👏🏼👍🏼🎯🇺🇸🫡 ✌🏽 OUT
I started high school in 1970 and this was my introduction to TDN. My favorite band in all of high school. In college I had co-favorites, them and Foreigner!
Floyd Sneed was a killer under the radar (or rarely talked about) drummer...great funky shuffles were his thing. Love his style with the high-hat. Has great feel and pocket!
Three Dog Night was a fantastic group. To hear Chuck Negron singing lead, listen to, "One." You won't be disappointed. Danny Hutton does some great singing on, "Black and White." There just isn't a bad song by them. "Never been to Spain," "Sure as I'm Sittin' here," "Celebrate," "Nobody," and the list just goes on and on.
It's hard to imagine a band that does covers, being described as unique, but they really were. From the line up, to how they reinvented the songs. You think cover band, and you think weddings, parties or small venues, not chart topping stars. Thanks for the fun reaction. ✌❤
I always thought "Joy to the World" was the same as the hymn in church when I was a kid, but loved singing 'this' version when it came on the radio.....LOVED IT, and sang that song at the top of my lungs! This song, was one I loved too, but didn't understand the lyrics as a kid.......UNDERSTOOD them as an adult!!! and heeded what mamma said:)
For this live performance he changed the lyric to "I don't know what it is, somebody shut that door", from "I don't know what it is, but I don't wanna see no more". This was a fun one from Three Dog. So was "Joy To The World", which had the most iconic opening verses in rock n roll history, first written as just a place holder.
If I'm not mistaken I think this is the only band that had every song hit the top 40 or that might be top 100. This is one of three of their #1 hits. Joy to the World: Released in 1971 Mama Told Me (Not to Come): Released in 1970 Black and White: Released in 1972
Corey Wells was lead on this one. Chuck Negron was the one to his right, with the mustache. And Danny Hutton was to Corey’s left. Corey could always take you to church.
Remember watching Three Dog Night on the Grammy awards in 1971. And I truly remember thinking the Grammys will never be the same again now that the music of the day had arrived. They were introduced that night by Andy Williams. I used to watch it every year and it was truly the first year that I remember seeing any kind of rock. Funny the things our minds remember 😊
'Joy to the World' was the first 45 record I ever bought. I was 11 years old. It cost me 2 weeks of my household chore money. About 50 cents. In hindsight, Well spent.
Singers are Chuck Negron, mustache, Cory Wells, lead on this tune, beard, and Danny Hutton, darkest hair. They were so amazing and popular back in the day. Chuck Negron’s cousin was the late, great comic actor Taylor Negron. Their fathers were brothers, I think.
I was a little kid when this song came out and I loved saying "Mama told me not to come". I still say that when I find myself somewhere I don't want to be... "damn, Mama told me not to come!"
Love 3DN! I was a young teenager and had no idea what kind of "party" momma was referring to lol! I just loved singing and dancing to their songs!! So much Soul! Great reaction! Love your channel!
I remember buying this 45 when I was in 5th grade and this came out. My buddies and I thought the faint "sh*t no" in the background was the coolest thing ever 😁
🇬🇧 Since watching reaction channels, I have come to love this band so much. In nearly every clip I've seen of them they're singing 'live', & they're soooo good. Also, I've just seen in one comment that the guy singing lead on this song is no other than Randy Newman! (WHAAAAT!?)🤯 Who knew?❤🎶🎼
No, the lead singer here is Cory Wells, the most soulful voice of the three lead singers. Randy Newman wrote this song and did record his own version of it, which was not very popular (at least I don't ever remember hearing it on the radio). This version went to number 1, I believe. I think Eric Burdon of the Animals was the first to record it (maybe around 1965), but it wasn't a hit for him either. Three Dog Night didn't write their own songs, but they were great at choosing the right songs, arranging them for maximum impact, and of course playing and singing the heck out of them. Cory Wells, Chuck Negron, and Danny Hutton are the singers. Floyd Sneed was the drummer -- I always liked his drumming. The singers took leads on different songs. I always liked the soul in Cory's voice. Chuck Negron (the tall guy with the big mustache) was my second favorite. He sang lead on their biggest hit, "Joy to the World". This was essentially intended to be a children's song, written by Hoyt Axton. Three Dog Night took it to Number 1. Most people know the opening line "Jeremiah was a bullfrog" Cory grew up near me, but he was almost 20 years older than me. I did hear a lot about him growing up.
I remember in 1970 when this came out. I bought the 45rpm of this. Became a fan overnight and still am. Next up Steve, give The Show Must Go On .❤❤❤👍👍🤘🤘
Thanks so much Steven......brings back great memories of seeing Three Dog Night live in Toronto 1971! This song was written by Randy Newman who also wrote & sung many great songs, one being "You Got A Friend in Me" from the movie Toy Story. One of Randy's songs that spent time on the radio was "Short People" from his album Little Criminals (a great listen!)
Let's Gooo! This performance is great. One lesson..listen to your Mama cause she knows best 😅 Please check out Brick house from the Commedores you won't be disappointed. Great reaction and Peace out Steven ☮️ ✌️ 🙏
Yeah, they were a covers band...they didn't write their own stuff. They made a lot of up-and-coming young songwriters a ton of money and recognition and fame. They did this by making those ridiculously great recordings.
Three lead singers = the Three in Three Dog Night. Everything they did was good. Typically they got songs from songwriters and would do tremendous arrangements. My personal favorite is Never Been to Spain
What a great song! One of my favorites from this group, which was one of my mom’s favorites It’s unfortunate that the sound quality is terrible. Make sure you listen to the studio version just for your own enjoyment.
Wish you would use the 1975 TV special for all their videos....they were at their peak then. All their great sings are in it. Cory Wells, lead in this video, just kills it in the aforementioned 1975 video when he sings "Try A Little Tenderness ". Better than Otis Redding.
I’ve said this before, but I hate when they’re called a cover band. My definition of a cover band is a singer or band who perform other artists former HITS. Three Dog Night took obscure songs and turned them INTO hits. Three #1s in fact. That’s a HUGE difference. Linda Ronstadt is a cover artist but you don’t hear her called that. I don’t know why.
I have never heard this song live before. I only have heard what is on my records, if you hear this same song on an LP, the words in the song present as a sexual nature. This live version was tamed down quite a bit.
Most singers and many bands did not write their songs. So I don’t get why this band is always called a cover band?! Buying the rights to put out a song by the songwriter does not make you a cover band.

These guys never cease to amaze me!! What a hook on this one!!
I remember back in the day when Three Dog Night ruled the radio with songs like One, Joy To The World They Show Must Go On, Black and White, and so many others
Never Been to Spain has to be next!!
I had my Three Dog Night 8 Track tape jamming in my car every time I went somewhere. Yes, I grew up in the '60s and '70s!
Wait until you see them do "Try a Little Tenderness". Soooo good!
Just saw these guys in concert 2 nights ago. Only 1 original member but they were incredible!
Sadly it’s becoming more common as we lose all these great artists 😢
You gotta do Joy to the World. The most iconic opening line ever.
Three Dog Night were the masters of re-working a song that didn't go anywhere for someone and making it a hit (and making the writer a lot of money). They became the go-to band for songwriters.
I got to see them live twice in the early 70s. BEST SHOWS EVER!!! ❤❤❤
For a great ballad by them, check "Easy to Be Hard."
“Black and White” great song
Know the song, but this must surely be the best version. Thanks for featuring it.
Three Dog Night was a GREAT cover band. They didn't write the songs, they just played the hell out of them.
A beautiful MUST HEAR Classic track,,
Three Dog Night "Out In The Country" ❤
Your reactions are Awesome 😊 Thank you!
Thanks so much! Means alot! 😁
You should do old Fashioned Love Song from Tanglewood. They did an awesome job. Anything from Three Dog Night at Tanglewood is amazing
Back in the day,, It was no surprise for Three Dog Night to have more than one hit on the music charts at a time.
This song was a huge hit..I'm glad you got to see them live..I would now suggest to also listen to the studio version...So That You can hear it the way we did the first time..
And find the line he changed in this live version. Also seemed a little less rhythmic talking and closer to singing the lead
@jimwilcox2964 "The Trouble of it is,, I don't wanna see no more"
Saw them them, Sept 23, 2011 at Nutty Jerry's in Winnie, Texas.
This was the first 45 I bought with my own money at the tender age of 10 years. Three Dog Night was my favourite band until I discovered prog rock 3 years later. Still brings a smile to my face. Thanks for the reaction!

They were such a great group...and they LOVED what they were doing. You can see their joy in all of their 'videos".
The voices were so good, but let’s not forget about the players - they were top notch.
when i was a kid, i loved these guys, now im 63 and i still love them, nice reaction. thank you...
I bought this record 54 years ago.
Floyd Sneed was a killer under the radar (or rarely talked about) drummer...great funky shuffles were his thing. Love his style with the high-hat. Has great feel and pocket!

And that’s how you play 🎉 Every instrument has their time to shine, and superb vocal harmonies.

Actually, if you haven't done Joy to the World, it is a good one!

'Black and White' sung by Danny Hutton (the gent on the right in black) is my fave song.
Thanks Stephen for more Three Dog Night!
I grew up in a mixed black and white family so that song always hits home. Gotta love the cow bell in that one.
My first 45 was “Joy To The World”! Got to see them in a bar in Oklahoma in ‘83! Incredible harmonies!!🤘🔥
Was That The It's A Jungle tour? I caught it in the back room of a Bar in El Paso early 1983.
@@mikematusek4233 had to be 🔥

YES! $.25 a week is what I got also.🤣🤣
Yes, they had 3 lead singers. That's how they got the name "Three Dog Night"

Great song and reaction

I remember buying this 45 when I was in 5th grade and this came out. My buddies and I thought the faint "sh*t no" in the background was the coolest thing ever 😁
Love this song! Another song I love from them is "Liar", strong bangin song!
“Liar” is probably my favorite by them! Love it!

@squirrel2000 thank you. 👍
great song written by Randy Newman
I lived it. I loved it. Especially the music. The wardrobe and fashions…..not so much!
🌸 there's a whole lot of hair on that stage!! lol
I remember in 1970 when this came out. I bought the 45rpm of this. Became a fan overnight and still am. Next up Steve, give The Show Must Go On .❤❤❤👍👍🤘🤘

My favorite from TDN is The Show Must Go On.
I always loved the band names origin, it was so cold it took 3 dogs to keep warm at night.
🌸 this is my favorite song of theirs
Let's Gooo! This performance is great. One lesson..listen to your Mama cause she knows best 😅 Please check out Brick house from the Commedores you won't be disappointed. Great reaction and Peace out Steven ☮️ ✌️ 🙏
Eric Burdon and the Animals recorded this first, but the Three Dog Night version is the best!

This was written by the great Randy Newman.
You need to listen to Joy to the World- not the Christmas song & Never Been to Spain by them, both bangers!
What a great song! One of my favorites from this group, which was one of my mom’s favorites
It’s unfortunate that the sound quality is terrible. Make sure you listen to the studio version just for your own enjoyment.
They had 3 lead singers
This slots in right behind Eli's Coming as my favorite 3 Dog Night song. This was my high school soundtrack, I'm an old fart. 😂😂🤙✌️
🤣😂🤣
👍
Black and white
🤠🐂
Written by the one and only Randy Newman.
You should hear Black and White and Joy to the World ( not the Christmas song).
Styx has three lead singers also. Lol
You should do Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Joy to the World
Two of their more "serious" songs, Try a Little Tenderness and Out in the Country show the other side of 3DN. You have to hear them.....
Wish you would use the 1975 TV special for all their videos....they were at their peak then. All their great sings are in it. Cory Wells, lead in this video, just kills it in the aforementioned 1975 video when he sings "Try A Little Tenderness ". Better than Otis Redding.
Randy Newman wrote this, and his version is also great.
it really is! I also like Randy Newman's own version of his "You Can Leave Your Hat On"
Hammond organ
Since you want new experiences in music try Mumma raised a man by Taj Farrant.
You should check out One or Try A Little Tenderness
Oh yes! .......or Chest Fever!
"I'm looking at my girlfriend, she passed out on the floor."
Dude, it's time to get you and her out of there!!🤣🤣

There's a version of this by Steriophonics featuring Tom Jones, possibly better than the original
I think you missed the funny part about girlfriend passed out on the floor😅
🤣😂🤣 I did miss that!
Synthesizers were big in that day.
HEY STEVEN- CAN YOU TRY THIS JAZZY FUNNY NUMBER BY THE GREAT WEYLON JENNINGS- CALLED "WRONG"- OFFICIAL VIDEO
If that's Randy Newman singing this... You need to go down the Randy Newman rabbit hole. Look up his song
Short People. 😂😂😂
Randy didn't sing this but he did write the song. Lead singer here was Cory Wells.
Studio version is far superior.
I’ll have to check it out! Thanks!
I have never heard this song live before. I only have heard what is on my records, if you hear this same song on an LP, the words in the song present as a sexual nature. This live version was tamed down quite a bit.
Tom Jones covered it

What is amazing is they never wrote anything, all they did were covers.
....but they were SO good at it!
This a great anti drug song.
